I'm enjoying Cricket at the moment - although, this happens every time the Ashes is on. I tell myself that Cricket is the superior sport, and that I'll swear off football and follow that instead. It's quite hard to do here, as it isn't as heavily covered as footy.

Why the hell did England need the football world cup in the first place? We have the best football league in the world. Why not let vladamir watch some decent football for once.
Saying that it would have been a lot better than the ridiculous waste of money that is the Olympics 2012. Billions of pounds to host two weeks of crap sports no one cares about and a few interesting track and field events where 90% of tickets will be sold to corporate sponsors. What a waste.

a. Fifa is corrupt, I hope we can all agree on that. Otherwise why else would a country with less than 1 Mil in poulation and the avg seasonal temperature of an incenerator win a bid to host a sporting event where the primary activity involves RUNNING for 90+ minutes! Doesnt make sense. b. Perhaps its the United States' lack of international soccer enthusiasm or possibly just the general interest in the sport at all.

Yeh ok FIFA is corrupt, and anglophobic.
But if Qatars proposals of building kit stadiums and giving them to third world countries after the world cup goes through I think they actually deserved it. In any case the USA should never have won, their bid was based on building the game in the USA, the same thing the 94 bid was based on. That was a complete failure as it didn't do that. It was also a poor competition and is remembered mainly for a football legend turning coke head and Diana Ross's penalty fail. As if it would go back there.
And yes I think you're right. The USA only seems to be interested in sports it dominates, which in most cases means sport no one else plays.

That is very true. The sad fact is that even if somehow the United States advanced past the dominant soccer Country's in the World Cup and won...I personally dont believe it would catalyze a soccer frenzy in America that everyone is hoping for. 94' olympics and the acqusition of the late Beckham recently should demonstrate the lack of interest in the sport here, the hype is built up here to a boiling point and then dissipates quickly.

This.
I don't care where they host it, I'll be watching from a bar or at home anyway.
Too bad the Iberian bid didn't win, though. We could've actually made some money from the 3 stadiums we put into the bargain (nevermind about the other 8 or so we renewed (ie, spent a lot of friggin' money which didn't get it's return - for the Euro 2004. Well, Braga's stadium is nice, at least).
At least Nelly Furtado won't be on the radio 24/7, every 5 minutes
No please!!! enough of this football Madness!!!! it was hard to stand the fanaticism that rules here in Spain involving that business/sport during the recent world cup, and not to mention when Spain won it.... imagine what could happen if the world cup was here..... no thanks...
