The fact the GW would make space fish gundams but not the mechanicum is a testamate to how little they care about fluff and how much they care about money.

The mechanicum is a stand alone force in allience with the Imperium, they have armies as vast as the imperial guard and with some units as powerful as space marines. GIVE ME THE MECHANICUM!!!

I'm sure there's an alien race called the quietude in the prospero burns HH novel that has something like a hive mind effect, but controlling some sort of cyborg esque machines. I envisioned it being more along the lines of the machines in the matrix, with a lot of variety in their shape. I'm sure someone earlier has mentioned a similar idea, so
+1

Plus the imperium gets very pious about AI and its heretical nature, so I'm sure there'd be enough fluff to justify the imperium bothering to fight them.

The Custodes don't ever leave Terra, do they? Otherwise, that'd be cool, but I think the Grey Knights are close enough if what you want are Marines that really kick a lot of ass.

Instead of offering us new species/armies, what I'd love GW to do is support the lines they already have Codexes for (how on earth can there not be a Sanguinary Priest w/ jump pack model? Or a freakin' Tervigon?). If I could buy any Codex and know that, with my nearly non-existent modeling skills, I could easily field any unit in the book I'd be happy.

Slann were like space lizard men in 1st edition Rogue trader. Squats were cool, ok they were essentially short fat IG but if GW had put some of the stuff they had in epic into 40k they would of been far better.

I would support an all armour army. (I.E some sort of walker as troops.)

I suspect that this could be called a demiurg amry perhaps seeing as they like their machines. (The squats cousins.)

Other than that uf theur had to be a new army then I'd support the Adeptus Mechanicus.

But really I think that they have too many codecii to keep up with as it is.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

I always thought the Squat Gyro Copter would have been good for 40k, as for Dark Eldar im not even sure they relased them for Epic, might be wrong i went awol for a while when 3rd edition arrived.
As for squats a friend of mine is convinced they have a small mention in a recent 40k novel.

I completely agree, Exodites are long overdue. I played a 2nd edition 40k battle all day last Monday, Nurgle Chaos marines Vs Exodites. Not only was it a really good battle my friend pulled out some of the experimental rules doing the rounds towards the end of 2nd edition, have you ever seen the rules for the Carnosaur, like an Eldar T-Rex.

The more non imperium armies we get, the better. We xenos and heretics are outnumbered by the umies for codex equipped factions as it is.

The Adeptus Mechanicus actually isn't an IoM army, despite the fact that they are humans. They've got thir own political structure, god, beliefs, military and fleet. They have a beneficial alliance with the Imperium, but it's not completely concrete. A Mechanicus codex would actually add some neat things.

Exodites are Eldar that had settled on planets and ride Dragons (dinosaurs)

I pinched this out of the old codex

The Dragon Knights are the warrior caste of the Exodite worlds. They ride fearsome carnivorous reptiles which they call dragons. There are many different kinds of dragon, from creatures somewhat larger than a horse to monsters as big as a house, but only the smaller and more agile ones are ridden to war. The kind most favored by the Eldar Knights are common to most of the Exodite worlds.

The galaxy is the Emperor's, and anyone or anything who challenges that claim is an enemy who must be destroyed

They're mentioned in Ravenor Rogue, by the rogue trader Sholto Unwerth, who is heavily implied to be one. Specifically, with a half heard monologue poking fun at the way GW tried to pretend they never existed in the first place.
'...it is much derailed, in places high and low,' she heard the shipmaster saying, 'that there ever was a race of beings of the name the squats, and many scholams and those of the high mindful claim it's just a myth, a thing that never was, but my direst old grand avuncular sweared to me that the Unwerth lineament has some timbre of that blood in it, right back in all perspective, I mean...'

What exactly would separate Eldar pirates from craftworld or dark eldar in game terms? Conceptually they're different, but wouldn't they be using the same weapons for the most part?

The Mechanicus is just another faction inside the Imperium, like how the Astartes are a separate body ungoverned by Imperial law (and aren't actually humans for that matter...), the Ecclesiarchy is its own institution, and the Inquisition sits on top in name, if not always in practice.

Really, we have fewer Imperial factions (Imperial Guard, Inquisition, and Space Marines (I suppose ecclesiarchy too, though it only has a few units in an Inquisition codex)) than Xenos (Both types of Eldar, Chaos Marines, Daemons, Tau, Necrons, Orks, and Tyranids), when you consider that the majority of their codices are just extraneous variations on a single one of their factions.

Now that I see it mentioned, a Mechanicus army would awesome, though I'd really like to see a dedicated Inquisition army, rather than just a few units shoehorned in beside Super-Mary-Sue Marines or Battle Nuns...

People keep saying Deathwatch, and I have to ask, why? They're just normal Space Marines taken from random chapters to serve the Inquisition. Just paint vanilla space marines black with some different chapter insignia and you have something that would be 99.9% identical to a full deathwatch army in gameplay terms...

I agree, and posters have listed plenty of existing races in the 40k universe. I wish they would add a truly "alien" race. Eldar, Dark Eldar, Orks, Tau are all very humanoid in appearance; even most of the Nids are bipedal. I want a truly crazy looking species, asymmetrical or an odd number of legs or something else to set them apart and make them look completely unique.

Just to be clear, I'm not complaining about the existing playable races; I just wouldn't mind seeing something completely new.
