Tyrgons are best on the table, I have tried deepstriking them, and really, when you juggle synapse coverage, their speed, and the type of fire power they will be taking, you may as well just run them at the enemy. Chances are, unless your opponent catles, you should have a second turn charge anyways. Trygons are great in MC heavy armies for drawing fire and presenting a very real threat.

On the subject of Carnifexes, here is probably their best application I have seen, and reinforces my though on a unit of 2 dakkafexes as the best option:

My personal opinion is that the tyranid player got incredibly lucky in the Space Wolves Match up, where he should have lost more monstrous creatures then he did.

However, the sickening amount of firepower that unit puts out, plus the ability to grant them FNP or Onslought, and taking units to draw their fire, makes them a pretty decent choice. With his list, and this is my own personal playstyle, I would have probably dropped one of the tervigons and one of the primes in favor of a Gargoyle squad and some FC Genestealers. It would allow better cover with a Gargoyle screen, and another unit to infiltrate of deepstrike to disrupt the opponent more.

Current Armies: Blood Angels, Imperial Guard (40k), Skorne, Retribution (Warmachine), Vampire Counts (Fantasy)

Fexes are overpriced compared to the new MCs in the Nid codex. @ the same cost for AC 3 and W 4 vs AC3 and W6. The loss of survivability in the new codex combined with almost doubling in cost makes it a roleplayer. The only thing they have to offer is the S9 base for vehicle hunting.

The psychic defense is probably the biggest pain as that nerfs FNP - an artificial way to get the wound count up.

The only thing I toy with is the squadron of three fexes backed up/leading the way for a tervigon pumping them with a Catalyst or if I recall Onslaught. This is a points sink unless we are going at the high point levels as it is probably @ 700+ points to field.

As stated, I see places for carnifexes in specialized lists but its day as a central element to a bug list are gone.
