This is great, looking forward to seeing the paintjob!

One little complaint, though, I'd like to see the poles of the scythes on the deathshroud elongated. As of now, they look like short little hook things. Negligible complaint, but I thought I'd try to add something to this AWESOME project.

That is an amazing mini!
Two things though:

My advice on the base corpses, ditch the space marine ones, they look too much like 'models I chopped in half and stuck to base' than 'OMG Mortarion killed all these dudes!', as in, they are posed in such a way that they look half an alive miniature, rather than a miniature of a guy who died being chopped in half.

Soaking in bleach will slow decomposition, I would advice using lime (as in the caustic element, not the fruit) to eat away the tissues. However SAFETY FIRST! (google quicklime to fine out why...)

@ crazypsyko666 I would but they're already finished. Plus the scythe blades would stick out a bit too much at that point.
@ Tyrael Vladinhurst Thanks! I can't take all the credit though. Most of it is kit pieces so its not like I made it completely from scratch like Sersi's models.
@ Leigen_Zero Of course! Bleach preserves, not erodes! I've also
thought of boiling them. Outside over a fire in a pot I no longer care about. I may be sick & twisted but I still like keeping my dead things & food separate As for the bodies on his base... Hmmmm.. I'm torn between taking your advice & not throwing away all that work. Plus I'd hate to waste an old figure like that for nothing. I think they may look a little out of place cuz they're too clean. Also just realized the cut-in-half ultra has no blood underneath him. I definitely want to keep them but might try to make them blend in a bit more with some area gore & maybe an overall brown wash over them & the rest of the corpses once they're added to give them a weathered, dirty look. Thanks for the tip on the mice though. I might look into lime, but they are pinkies so it might be too harsh :/
@ Hyenajoe Thankyouthankyou It has to be epic! He IS a Daemon Primarch afterall. Can't wait to field him!

I wouldn't recommend boiling, that will absolutely STINK!

Got an ant's nest nearby? leave them by the nest for a day or so and the ants 'should' pick them clean...

Ah, excellent question! I currently don't preside at my domicile but upon my return tomorrow shall photodocument said soup & pictures of the mice splayed out on on operating table for dissection/erosion. I'm told if you keep them in the sun & mist them with bleach it works much better. Btw I like you Null series. Nice colours.

btw I coated him in minwax last night but ran out half way through his wings. I got that jar when I started my FW Plaguemarines. Lasted about 4-5k into my army so I'd say I got some use out of it
This has now become more of a history & present Mortarion blog as I've found myself starting to work on the pre-heresy Morty more these days. Here's a few pics of him & his Death Shroud with the first coat of white:

I used a base from an Akira figure I got at an anime con a while back, more window screen tubing & some guitar stings for the bases. Mortarion's actually has one of the leaking canisters from the remains of Akira's body on it
And of course as this is primarily a Mortarion Daemon Primarch project I have been working on the minions necessary to field him. I now have 7 completed Nurgling bases:

and 14 Plaguebearers for 2 squads of 7, but only 10 completed cuz I had to make the additional 4 from bits & don't have the bases for them yet:

Yep, I decided to go with the Crypt Ghoul conversion, used GS to make them cyclopses & more bougainvillea thorns for their horns. Each squad will be equipped with an IoC, Instrument of Chaos & one model with Noxious Touch. As promised, I'll get some pics of the mice soup when I get home later & get them posted as soon as possible.

As stated in ALL CAPS on the description on the img to avoid any problems with PETA NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS PROJECT. THESE ARE PINKIES aka DEAD UPON PURCHASE FEEDING MICE FOR REPTILES
And on a side note, as soon as I saw the title of the 2nd Part of the 2nd Book of the Horus Heresy I knew this one gona be a good one: "PLAGUE MOON - Six: Land of decay Dead things Glory of Tera" /six-year-old jacked up on coffe clap

Very well done sir.

On the OzPainters forum we had a 96 page discussion on "Where to source Small Bones?"

Pinkies are the clear winner.

One Golden Demon winner made a zombie dragon or somesuch using Pinkie bones... all he does is freeze them then lets local ants clean the flesh from the bones for him.

personally, I just trawl toy stores for fossil kits.

Just found an even better method.. maybe. The pinkies aren't looking so hot. It's difficult to let them dry out in florida weather what with all the pollen falling everywhere & constant rain. So my mom (once again, super lady who knows me all too well) gets owl pellets for her 5th grade class from a local science museum. They're autoclaved blobs of owl regurgitation. Owls eat things whole then spit up a big-ass hairball with bones all in it. And they're autoclaved meaning they're sterilized. You could pratically eat em... if you wanted to that is.

Now on to the updates!

First, I got my corpse cart bodies bits in

Now these fuggers are like $5 for the pair & damn near impossible to find on their own, so I sent off for a resin casting kit

Donkey Kong, son! ON like it!

Made the mold with the rubber casting mix

Also made one for a custom rotten floor 25mm base I planned on putting on my whole army. At $2.50 a pop THAT alone makes this kit worth it.

Some shots of planning on where to put them on the base.

Now I know what Rusty Venture feels like. My own army of clones!

Then it was a simple mater of a blackbase, a drybrush of rotten flesh, a wash of gloss red, another drybrush of rotten flesh & various blood spatters everywhere.. some of it my own

Think I might add 1 or 2 more armored bodies to Morty's base then some corpse cart bodies on the Death Shroud bases. And finally they're all 3 going on a 12" record... also covered in bodies Muahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

oh yeah & I got in the way of progress again & my exacto taught me a lesson

Sckitzo wrote:Wow, very nice man, very nice. Are you hooking up a switch for the led lights, or is it going to be more of a turn it on by plugging it in thing?

Planning on incorporating a switch. I was wondering for the longest time how I was going to construct the base, but I think I may have answered that quandary with the resin kit.

Thanks Ghost_Leader_7!

And as far as more updates, I'll see if I can get some more pics posted later today. Possibly some findings from sifting through owl pellets, possibly updated pics of the pre-heresy Morty & Death Shroud. On that subject though, in lieu of not chopping up a mini I don't plan on using for dead bodies, since the MKI terminators I have already seem to have power fists, but they're rather small in comparison to the modern ones do you think it would look odd to put a power scythe in each of their hands since that's what their stats call for?

Have you seen any of LBursley's Nurgle models? He uses a recipe of paints and other stuff I don't fully understand to make a purple/red pus-blood-ooze thing for burst boils and cuts. I think it would add a lot of complimentary coloration to the model (which looks great, but is a little too green and not enough of other colors).

I might be the only one who feels this way, but it seems like the base is getting a little too crowded and takes away from the absolute awesomeness of the already extremely detailed Mortarian. The best Mortarian conversion I've seen yet, might I add.

I know you've probably already put a lot of work into the base, but I think those Ultramarines really clash with the model in a bad way. They take the focus off of Morty, because of their popping blue and yellow colors... Maybe change to a more earth-tone chapter colors?

I did check out his models & the website @ awesomepaintjob.com I do like his models & they're very impressive. I usually use a mixture of red & black paint, minwax & elmers glue. Gives it a nice color & texture. I'll see if I can somehow draw away from the overall green color.

Lol good idea, but I think you may want to scale them down a bit for Sanguinary Guard. IMO they're a little big even for a Daemon Primarch. Thanks though! Still wana add cobwebs all over them.

It is getting a little conjested. I was thinking of only minwaxing the corrupted or raw dead bodies, but I think I'll just do the whole thing so it has a protective coating & that should hopefully give it all more uniformity. You got a point there though. His base is looking rather smurfy, might add some grey or grit to their armor to tone it down a bit.

Hey man, your models, just some friendly advice =)

It looks absolutely fantastic, though. The modeling is superb and the character looks dynamic. You could make molds for this thing it looks so professional.

And it is appreciated, as are the kudos
Wish I could make a mold of it. Too many tiny parts though. I kinda took your advice on the scythes for the Death Shroud. Don't have any pics to upload but I took a couple vertebrae from the owl pellets & added them just above the hand on each one.
Got some too-much-flash pics of my possibly finished pre-heresy Mortarion & Death Shroud, but now that I've started the 4th book of the Horus Heresy I'm having 2nd thoughts. They keep describing the Death Guard in gunmetal armor, not the off-white with green trim you usually see. Think I might make an alt pair with MKIV terminator armor & perrhaps even a Calas Typhon.
This could also cause an issue with my Chaos Death Shroud too though as they are also in the white & green colors :/
