 Update time!
Papa Nurgle was bountiful unto me this Krampusmas! I got a Nurgle DP & 2 packs of Nurglings so Mortarion is nearing completion!
First I took the right arm & attached a magnet to the wrist so I could use the Pestilen arm I had pre-made
Now we have a problem however: I built Mortarion a bit larger than the Nurlge DP so with the legs as-is he's a bit dwarvish
First thing I thought of doing was to extend the torso so he's just a little taller, but that just didn't look right
So I came up with the idea to just extend his legs on either side. Kinda like Ethan Hawke in that foocher-istic movie about genetards
And here we have a taller more proportionate pair of legs
I will be filling out the legs more once I get more GS. I ran out again :( Swear I need to start ordering the stuff in bulk!
It ain't woth it unless you bleed.
So, now the basic form is finished. Here's a shot of him with Pestilen & one with The Lantern:
Next step is filling out the legs with more GS, painting & details!

Only thing i dislike in any way, is the blade just seems a bit..... Clumsy, for example i think its a bit wide, i also think it should have a curve in it (it is a scythe, right?)
Apart from that it looks amazing.

Yeah, it is a bit on the oversized side :/ I might resize it or add a new blade. That would also give me a chance to make it out of something a little more sturdy than cardboard.

Scythe is far to large, otherwise, looks awesome (not just blade, the entire thing seems to long) Also, I'd make him hold it more in the middle, the one hand holding it at the end just looks odd, and would be a horrible position to actually swing from.

The Haft of the Scythe is just about right but the blade is a bit too bulky. It should be narrower and smaller. Plasticard would work... or an old credit/library type card might work out if you dont have access to plastic card.

Yes! sonofruss, that's exactly what I found about a week ago & I concur. $10 for 4 2" pieces of GS or $14 for a coil of it? Purchased this morning. That's the only drawback with that however. Shipping. I can go down to my LGS & get ripped off today!
As far as the scythe goes, I've decided I'm keeping it. In the future I may make another one & possibly another left hand so it doesn't look like he's going for hi score in guitar hero. I think the scale of the scythe is comprable to a DP Primarch though. I mean, one of his datasheets says it's supposed to be taller than a terminator. Space marines, IIRC were approx 8-9' tall, meaning terminators probably stand about 12' tall at least. Agron's Black Rune Sword is said to be 8 meters long meaning it would be as tall as 2 terminators & by comparison, what I've done with Pestilen should be about 20' tall so it's reasonable. It'll look a lot smaller when compared with his base. I'm currently thinking of taking a DA Azrael model I've had for a while & putting it underneath one of his feet.
@ Monster Rain & kaiservonhugal thanks for the support!
Just waiting on my kneadatite now. Probably won't have any updates until next year.

Cool model.
I just have a problem with the Primarch rules that where posted a while back, they seem a bit old (I saw boon of mutaition in there)
Is there a more up to date version?
Also some of the wargear and special rules have no explianation,is their a codex I need to reference from?

Hello all!
Long overdue for an update on this project. But I've had a rather hectic end of 2010 & a continuing busy start to 2011. This model has provided a much needed anchor of sanity for me though
So, without further adue.. Updates!
First off, if I may show off for a bit I recently had to go digging in my closet to find something else I lowe & behold what did I find? I had a 2nd MKI Termie so I now also have a pre-heresy Mortarion & the makings for both of his Death Shroud
did a pretty crap job on his paintjob IMO so he's currently soaking in simplegreen.
Now for the Daemon Primarch
Last I left off, I hadn't even added the extra GS for his cloak yet. Here we have a shot of the extra cloak materials & an added organic touch for his wings. Golden Macaw feathers:
they aren't quite so golden now.
First coat of black paint on the feathers. There are still some blue & yellow spots so they'll need another coat, but still much less.. mardigras-looking
Next, my FW Death Guard torsos finally came in so I could begin on his Death Shroud retinue
I used a standard TL bolter for the right arm (for simplicity & cuz that's the only one the bitz site had left) added holes for the barrels & the CL power axe for the left, flipped the blade to the backside for a plasticard scythe blade on the front. The legs of one are modified CL legs & the other are CSM termie. Made a pre-heresy Death Guard belt buckle which I have since lost because in attempting to pop it off to make an adjustment it suddenly hit me in the face & disappeared into the carpet :( no matter, I needed to order a 2nd Slaanesh vehicle symbol to make the other one anyway.
some extra GS on the bolter to add a MoN on the side
Next, I began working on Morty's base. Covered it in GS & poked various holes in it to give it that Nurgle fungus look. In my closet digging I also found some old SM models that I chopped up & butchered for dead bodies
SM captain with a gawd-awful paintjob done over 10 years ago now. He will eventually be blackbased with the rest of the base.
BT slumped over. Thinking I might add more holes in all his armor to give it the looks of rotting away from the sheer presence of Mortarion.
and an olskool plastic SM from when they weren't all grey. Didn't have the legs for him (think I used them in an icon bearer IIRC) so I improvised with GS >:]|]
The Death Shroud are now equipped with their own GS cloaks to give them that reaper look too
and will eventually be getting the pre-heresy belt buckles & I cut the chest horn off the one 'cause I plan on painting the eye of tera on their chesst to give them even more of a pre-heresy look.
And finally, Mortarion is near complete as I finished most of the details & touchups on his body.
Yes, the scythe is still gargantuan, but I still think it's fitting for a Daemon Primarch
I actually used CSM heads for the 3 skulls on his left shoulder.
And here he is in all his present Nurgly glory. Just a few more touchups & detail and he'll be ready for his minwax wash. Then all I have to do is get about 20 corpse cart bodies because after blackbasing it & drybrushing the base it's getting COVERED in dead bodies!
As always, C&C welcome. He hasn't been minwaxed yet
Oh and I almost forgot. I'm going to go check on my dead baby mice soup. I currently have 5 dead baby mice soaking in diluted bleach to use their skulls as the shoulders for the Death Shroud. Yes, I have issues

 Updaaaaaate!
So, Mortarion is pretty much ready for his minwax bath. The Death Shroud are dipped & drying and now I believe all I have left is to obtain a crap-load of corpse cart bodies for his base.
Mortarion with Death Shroud
Some good shots of the LED eye
Dead Ultrasmurfs captain. I've washed & washed this thing & it STILL looks like crap. Any ideas?
Same thnig with this guy & the below half-ultra scout. Dono if it's the camera I'm using, but they look good to the naked eye & as soon as I get the pics uploaded it's like gha! what was I thinking??
Pretty content with how the Death Shroud came out though. I finally got the Slaanesh vehicle symbols I ordered & chopped off some of the spikes to make them look like pre-jeresy Death Guard symbols, then added a Nurgling each on their base.
Added some GS to this one's chest so I could make the eye of tera later
And here we have the finished paintjob, complete with eye of tera & Nurgling on each
Decided to go with a slightly pre-heresy color scheme on their armor, even though Mortarion has more of the current Chaos olive & gold colors. Oh and of course there is still the matter of the baby mice skulls for thier shoulders. After almost a week in diluted bleach they have STILL not deteriorated! Think I might try cola :/
For the base, as I've previously mentioned I plan on covering it in bodies. Since I'm only ever able to find liek one at a time on ebay I thnik I might get a resin molding kit & just duplicate the rest of them. The Death Shroud bases will have a few too.

Thanks everybody for the compliments!
@[b][/img][img] rubirub yeah I'm pretty pleased with how the wings came out too. Thought they might be too big at first but they kinda even things out & draw attention away from the scythe. Might also add some cobwebs to give them that Great Owl from The Secret of NIMH look.
@ Melkhiordarkblade The Death Shroud are dipped n done. Thought of using Typhus as a base but he's a pricey mini & I wound up getting the bits for both of them for less tha. It would've cost for him alone.
@ ThatEdGuy the cloaks are made of GS & as for the support.. Well, gravity I guess.
@ shingouki Yes. Yes I am. And you sir have a LOT of tanks! Impressive collection.
I can't think of anything else to add before I go through with his first minwax dip & then covering the base with bodies afterwards. Any last minute suggestions?

@ Killmaimburnkillmaimburn yep. What can I say, I like using dead things in my Death Guard. It gives them that extra deathly look
@ purplefood lol I had to look that one up. Good ol' Lexicanum. Thought you were talking about spiders at first. No, I'm sorry to say it isn't Cato, just a basic Ultramarines captain. I had thought of using DA Azrael, but then the fluff nazi's would be all over me. So I went with nameless bodies. Don't know of any specific loyalists Mortarion is known to have killed but I am finally reading some of the official literature. Just finished Horus Rising and Oh My Gawd! Hooked!!! So Eberus started the downfall of the Imperium eh? Cheeky bastard!
