Hello, good evening & welcome! I has emerged from The Warp once again! Some of you may remember me from my recent post on building a fleet of Warlord Titans. Had to put that on hold for a bit due to family drama. But when my roommate got the new plastic kit daemon prince & I got his leftovers I couldn't hold back the urge I've had for a while now to make a Daemon Prince Mortarion.
I used the breather torso front & the left arm from his DP. Had to order the shoulder & leg armor from bits sites & guess what! Everyone was out of the torso back. Go effin figure. So I made do... sort of.
here we go with this epic saga:

I started off by lining up what I wanted the arm to look like

actually decided to go with 1 of the leg armor pieces per arm

For the head I set this aside a while ago when I decided I was going to make a Mortarion. It's 2 of the Deflier head combined into a Primarch head


Then I scavenged what I was allowed to from the DP leftovers & layed them out

Arm, torso, my pre-made head, the chainmail tabard, a bunch of chains (some I stole from a MacFarland Hellraiser toy & one just plain chain) and my own custom Lantern, legendary plasma pistol made from the hand from the Hellraiser toy, a dreadnought flamer, 2 tau rifles & a necron green tube
and yes, those are wires going to his head.. more about that later.

Clipped the hand off the DP arm to mag mod it later to be swappable with the plasma pistol. Figure with all his godly stats I may get some gripes about him also having a legendary 18" plasma pistol that doesn't get hot so, just in case.

Which brings us to the wings! Wanted to go with an extravagant angelic look for the wings. Made the skeleton out of coat hangers, the spiral from a notebook & more GS


pressed GS on to tinfoil & later when it dried, cut slits in it to create the feathers


here we have a shot of Morty with one mounted wing & the lantern in one hand. I also used the DP vents & some CAT5 cable to create the smoke stacks coming from his back.


and that's all for right now because for some slowed reason I started this thread 15 min before I go home for work. I'm clocked out now & can't think of a valid reason to sit here, not making money posting a thread at work when I could be at home doing it baked as usual.

Right, where was I? ... Oh yeah,

Here we have the 2nd wing being formed & placed.

You may notice he now has a back to his torso. Remember me mentioning that I couldn't find the DP torso back anywhere?

Well SUCK ON THAT bits websites with everything for the new DP but the back!

next I began working on his cloak

found a good use for all the boganvilla thorns outside my window too

and of course I had to add guitar strings for tubes & stuff


Next I began working on Pestilen, his Daemon Weapopn


made from coat hanger, various toy robot bits, window frame tubing, the other Hellraiser hand, more GS, various chaos vehicle bits & a Chick-fil-A box. Yeah, I cheaped out on the blade. But it looks good in the longrun

A little red paint, elmer's glue & varnish goes a long way!



Next, the bits for the shoulder armor & leg armor finally came in.

So I used 3 CSM skull heads for the skulls after shaping them to look like skull with an exacto & the leg armor as extra armor for the forearms to give them the look seen in the following pic:


Lately I've been adding GS here & there to add more tattered shreds of his cloak & I also thickened up the hand a little so it matches the one holding Pestilen

So that's it for right now. Currently I'm waiting on a Nurgle DP for Xmas to use the legs & right arm. Gona mag mod the hand so I can pivot it to either be held in one hand or sideways being held in his CC left hand. After that I was planning on buying as many bits sites as I can find out of all their corpse cart corpse piles for the base (maybe have him perched over a dead DA or DH ven dread). I plan to have him mounted on a 40-50mm base, but that will be placed in the center of a display base made out of either a 12" record or maybe a 7" to have him standing in the same thing he was found in as a wee babe: a sea of corpses!

As far as his stats I found a good one either here or in B&C and combined it with a few others I found. It might be a little OP for some, but he is a Primarch afterall.

Nurgle's Chosen One - May only be fielded in 3000pt+ armies, Counts as an icon within 12", May only take troops with MoN, May field both Chaos Daemons & CSM troops & if he chooses to do so must take an HQ & 2 troop choices from each, Counts as 2 HQ slots in Force Organization.

Nurgle's Attraction - Every turn he is on the board you may summon up to 3 bases of Nurglings within 12"

Nurgle's Suffering - Feel No Pain on 3+ instead of 4+, can be used against any unsaved wound (even those that ignore armor save)

Denizen of The Warp - Immune to Perrils of The Warp

Eternal Warrior - Immune to Instant Death

Nurgle's Lore - Mortarion can make up to 2 psychic tests per turn (including force weapon) & has been gifted with all of Nurgle's psychic gifts:
- Gift of Nurgle: Choose a model within 12" of Mortarion. On a successful psychich test, roll a D6; 4+ turns model into a Beast of Nurgle, 3- into a Spawn (only usable on models with
more than 1 wound)
- Grand Corruption: Only used on units with 3+ models. On successful psychic test, roll D6 for each model; 5+ turns model into a Plague
Bearer.
- Nurgle's Rot: On successful psychic test, any enemy unit within 6" suffers a S3, AP N hit

- Breath of Nurgle: Roll psychich test, template weapon, wounds on 4+

Touch of Death - Roll psychic test, instead of using any of his CC attacks, Mortarion slowly reaches out & lays one hand upon his opponent. 1 attack at initiative 1 causes Instant Death (unless immune, then just 1 wound)

Death Shroud - 2 personal gurds in terminator armor with the following stats:

You know a model is badass when you have to buy entire squads in addition to it to be able to field it.

Those wings are the best part. Stunning, is the best word that comes to mind.

Indeed, the wings are pretty epic. I'll leave the rules to some of the rules lawyers. It seems pretty reasonable for a daemonic primarch.

Where are you going to hide the battery?

Now that's a Primarch's statline! Is that official in any way? Are there any rules/stats for primarchs at all?

The Battery shouldn't be a problem. I'm either going to go with the 9v, or since it's a 12v LED use 4 stacked 3v watch batteries hidden in either a pile of corpses or a venerable dread.
@Lint there are no tournament legal primarch stats TTBoMK, i think White Dwarf might have put out a datasheet for Angron, but I found this:

Holy gak I just re-read that datasheet on Mortarion! Think adding Touch of Death as another optional psychic power would be too much? I mean, it's still only 1 of 2 optional psychic powers per turn, he does have access to all of Nurgle's psychic powers & it's initiative 1. I think that's still fair for a 777pt model :/

I'd agree mate. Daemon Primarch or not.. he's a little intense, and almost unkillable short of a horde of ork warbosses

This is great. How strong are the wings?

Edited the stats a little bit. Realized that with a Toughness of 10 he'd be damn near indestructible so I changed it to a 7(8) with MoN. Also up'd his Initiative to 5 & gave him the extra psychic power Touch of Death. That should even things out a bit.


@ jackanory: fairly strong. They're solid yet still flexible.

@ HF Izanagi: Just a warning, you might want to use wax paper or something less brittle, maybe even acetate cuz when it dries the tinfoild really likes to stick to the GS.

Merry Xmas BETCHES!!!

Slight update for Christmas Eve. Done with most of the painting on his body so far. This evening it's off to mom's house to hopefully find a Nurgle DP under the tree so he gets some legs! But for now, some progress pics! He still needs touchups EVERYWHERE!







Decided his hood had a little too much of an assassin's creed look to it even after a base coat of green, a drybrush of flesh, drybrush of yellow, a drybrush of white & a drybrush of grey so I gave it a wash of green. Looks a lil better IMO





That's all for now. Like I said, he still needs touchups everywhere so he's a little messy for now.
