I saw this in the Gallery before I saw this thread, amazing work! I saw LotR all over it as well. And the suggestion to turn it into a snow globe cracked me up.

The poses are so expressive and grim. Abject misery never looked so bleak. There's so much that can be read into it. Very emotive and well done. I actually feel bad for them.

I think the rocks could be improved. If you painted very light lines on it, it would give the impression of wind.

I also saw this in the gallery a few days ago, and I think it is awesome.

In fact, it is one of the most awesome dioramas I have seen lately. The composition is perfect, it makes me feel the wind and the cold when I look at it. You mentioned there was no way to create the actual snowstorm, but that is not true: you did create it, because it is in there.

And while it is a little reminiscent of the crossing-the-mountains-scene from Lotr, it first reminded me of an old picture from one of the 2nd edition books where a few soldiers with rebreather masks fight their way through a storm at the foot of a cliff.

The diorama looks amazing!The position of the characters, the cloaks blowing in the wind, the commanders hand raised to shield the wind and falling snow, all of these dynamics contribute nicely to the final result. This is a fantastic example of how to create an environment by all of the subtleties you used. I also love the base, the dense snow and rock back drop adds great appeal to the scene. The snow placement is fantastic. The painting is also great, I love the highlights on the cadian armor, excellent work! Showcase quality!

That is fantastic. You've done a great job converting and painting minis as well as terrain. Also the atmosfere i great. I can feel that cold wind blowing.

Wow the evaluations are so good that I am now a bit afraid to finish it or to attach the final piece because it may ruin the diorama, so maybe don't add anything?

thanks i still think that in the ned the first part was better, you know just the tree soldiers fighting wind , but this was the original idea so , yea I finished it, It doesn't ruin it though

I made the snow using citadel (games workshop) modelling snow. I mixed it with PVA glue and white color , and built up about 10 layers . And used a bit of foambord for the relief.

Very cool. I'm going to have to get some anti-freeze for my monitor to make sure it doesn't turn into an ice cube.
