or just scroll to my gallery http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/165837-Camouflage%2C%20Hills%2C%20Imperial%20Guard%2C%20Snow%2C%20Warhammer%2040%2C000%2C%20White%2C%20Winter.html
My project of 3 imperial guard soldiers in deep snow. the soldiers have been trough a lot of conversation . The hand of the first and second soldier are completely green stuff. I sculpted them myself, and of course the cloaks are completely from green stuff. The Idea is that there is a heavy wind blowing from the right side with harsh snow, but I had no idea of how to make snow in air like if it looked like it is actually snowing , only maybe photoshop , but didn't want to use that( so if you have any idea please share in comments. I will add one more major model in this diorama , but haven't finished it yet .
what do you think?
P.S. Soon I will post some more pics.
P.P.S. This is my first post. So is this the right place for this kind of article.

I like it. At first it seemed to bland, but then I started thinking about the actual work involved in this, and how it being minimalist is kind of the point.
Of course a good 'ole Eldar rapin' would spice it up nicely.

Outstanding work! I dont think you need the snow in the air, you can feel the howling wind just by looking at it! Maybe you should consider waterproofing it and making a snow globe out of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEQpwEHm6E8

So far, it looks great!
This vignette perfectly captures the feeling of being stuck in a snowstorm in mountain-like terrain. The balance is perfect and the sense of motion (soldiers pushing forward, winds pushing back) is well-executed.
I'd like to see a top-down view to see how you modeled their tracks in the snowdrift though.

I had just come in from the winter cold (-18 celsius) when I looked at that and I think I got even colder. The feeling of the wind and the cold feels real. When I saw this I thought: They aren't going to get killed by the enemy, the cold is gonna get them first.

It has been varified by John Hurt that the Ultramarines are indeed the greatest space marine chapter. |

Ive had an idea about how to depict snow falling, dont know if it will work though, but......
How about putting this diorahma in a perspex display box, then printing your snow storm on some overhead projector film and putting it inside the display case????? its an idea.

Wow ! thanks Guys , I didn't think there will be so many replies.
If you say so It really reminds me too about LOTR although I hadn't realized that before.
I am thinking of completing it to be a diorama...!

I made the snow using citadel (games workshop) modelling snow. I mixed it with PVA glue and white colour , and put on about 10 layers ..

The only big problem that I had to encounter was that the colour on the green stuff after drying was splitting and cracking ???? and I actually have no idea why that happened, and as I was putting more layers on the more it cracked? Why could that be? Maybe that was because I was covering the green stuff after modeling whit olive oil . Maybe that made it crack. Finally I resolved the problem by overlaying the cracking parts with much glue
