I vote yes, unless there's a way to just rotate them with the Dakka Gallery software.

Why not take the same time and just rotate these 20 or so pics with irfanview?

I Voted yes, altering the picture orientation is a 10 second job and even the most archaic of computers can do it.

A couple of reasons...

I'm not sure it'll work wtih the gallery, Lego said that he initially considered a rotate button but it wasn't feasible. Right now the only way I know to do would be for me to download an image and reload it.

There's also a bit of moral hazard here. I already spend a lot of time putting tags on images and other things posters should do. I really don't want to be cleaning up someone else's messy images.

Finally as many have said anyone who can't be arsed to rotate their images probably does not value their work too much.

No offense to the owner, but here is a good example of what Im talking about:

This picture really has no good use. It is a dark picture of the back of a black primed/painted mini. Even if it is a conversion/custom/etc the pic is too dark and the paint too featureless to be of any use.

IMO a good candidate for deletion.

What about WIP pictures? is there an option for the pictures owners to make it unavalible for voting etc?

i'll beg to differ about that picture. while far from technically perfect, i can make out the details well enough to say that its the best marcus fenix gears of war 40k scale conversion i've ever seen!!

Yes there is, it's check box under each image you upload.

I have no issue with WIP pics but when nothing can be seen (due to black primer, poor light, or blurry pics) there's not much point in keeping them up.

Some bypass the gallery and attach the pictures to their posts. As far
as I can tell, you can't disable voting before you submit things that way.

I could see using that picture to show how the primer went onto the model.

Pics in the P*M Blogs sometimes require a context in order to judge
whether or not they should stay. Sometimes a wip pic is there not to
show paint, but to show scale, or something else. Enable/disable
voting on pics, require pics be upright, and I think we should just stop
there or start contacting users.

Good question, basically most of the gallery's utility comes from posters voting on it, commenting and adding tags. So it's in everyone's interest that looking at the site be a pleasant experience. Blurry photos and sideways ones make it annoying to browse through.

We're not trying to be CMON which is more of a showcase but I don't think anyone wants to look at crooked images either in posts or the gallery.

The biggest most annoying problem I see in the gallery is that many models have about 100 pictures each of them, all almost identical. Should we delete the duplicate pictures?

I think the solution to all your problems is to make the pictures so that they are by default not in the voting/browsing, and users have to physically check a box to add them, not the other way around. And then you can stop worrying about deleting things.

This is actually a really good idea.

Voting should be opt in vs opt out.

MOst of the stuff that I've been posting in the gallery lately is WIP stuff that I feel doesn't necessicarily need to be voted on.

Showcase stuff definately should be votable....

I say delete any sideways images. No PM to user required which would tie up tons of time and effort for the Mods.

Users could use the existing mechanism to "report" a sideways image.

That seems the best way.

Why should we host crap just because some snot nosed little arsewipe can't be fethed to click the rotate button on his pics?

If you see a sideway image please add the tag 'crooked' and/or 'delete'. I sweep through from time to time looking for those.

Even if all sideways and upside down photos are deleted, can there please be a special dispensation for that warbikes photo?

I don't know why but it always makes me laugh whenever it gets posted in a thread, and I can see it popping up for years to come

I think we can all agree it is adding something to our discussions now.

yet no other upside down picture will ever add anything to any discussion. Nor any blurry ones.

@killkrazy: why the hell not? what costs more the 200k of bits that no one should ever see, or time people and moderators spend fixing things that could just be left well enough alone with no harm done?
