Aesthetically Tau have always been a favorite of mine... fluff-wise i hate them.
Although... 2 Thunderhawks would be tempting...

Fluff-wise, I think of them as Space Communists.

Fluff-wise i think of them as space-arseholes...
Communists don't really have much of a bad rep.

They don't make money off them because so many pieces are wasted due to air bubbles, excessive warping etc.

It's one of Forgeworld's prestige items - not designed for people to buy as such, but for people to go 'ooh that's cool, what do they have that's in my price range...'. Similar to supercars made by car companies; they don't make money, there's no immediate economic reason to make them, but they exist to improve brand image.

I've had the honor to see this monster in person before and my god...it's one thing to see it online and another to actually hold it in your hands.

The bugger is like 20 something pounds. You're not putting it on a base.
