People with the power to choose followed Horus because they thought the Emperor was using them, that he wasn't following the right path, even because they thought he was going to destroy the Imperium.

They didn't follow Horus because they thought the Emperor wasn't who he said he was.

Whoa there. That was the Mechanicum and Inquisitions doing. And who says its unneccesary? I don't think the High Lords would be executed.

Oh sorry, I didn't mean the High lords just whoever is in charge of his current state. Sorry about that.

The Emperor is pretty secure from harm in his current location, after the Heresy Terra was refortified to the extreme, everyone was determined that it would never be bisieged again, the whole solar system is set up for defense of terra. Not to mention his personal bodyguard of a couple of Emperor titans and an entire Legion of warriors more powerfull than space marines (the Custodes) guarding him.

Well the problem with traitors is that the Imperium loses defenses and gains enemies all at the same time. IT all depends on who and where the traitors are. However the closer to Terra you get the the fewer people are likely to turn against him.....

while I was sitting here watching TV and painting some Tau, I had a thought about the whole rebirth of the Emperor and the ripple effect it could have on the entire Galaxy, it would be interesting if His rebirth actually could trigger galactic ragnarok.....

What if his sudden and incredibly powerful psychic signature in the warp attracted the full attention of several hereto ambivelant forces, what if his shining beacon flared so brightly that the full attention of the Hivemind would become focused upon his location, and a Tyranid invasion of staggering proportions descended on the IOM across the length and breadth of its domain, with the single minded goal of Terra itself....

What if this potent and cosmic appearance of the Emperor's reborn psychic powers caused a irritant that the C'tan could no longer tolerate, and they triggered their minions to begin the harvest..once again.

And finally What if the Ruinous powers seized upon these massive onslaughts upon mankind, and offered in their most persuasive means salvation from the mechanical doom, and the great devourer, but just renounce your so called god emperor that has brought these dooms upon you...

just some interesting ideas for even more war in the 40k universe, and maybe a challange worthy of the Emperor.

Ragnarok? Nah. If Big E came back, he would first eat a carnifex for breakfast and then start butchering the nids hive fleets one after another. After all, this man nearly conquered the entire galaxy.
Interesting thought though. I guess it would be cool.

"How many more worlds do we sacrifice? How many more millions or billions do we betray before we turn and fight?" - attributed to Captain Leoten Semper of Battlefleet Gothic - Gothic War, the evacuation of Belatis.

If commanding a Titan is a measure of true power, then commanding a warship is like having one foot on the Golden Throne - Navy saying.

Haha how does the Emperor have his Carnifex cooked anyway???

But anyways I think the Emperors death will be alot more complex than just humanity becoming the dominant species again.....

I think if the big E came back he would make new primarchs (In secret) and finish the webway he was working on. (if its still around, the high lords probably thought "What the feth is that?? Idk bro, just give it to the Mechanicus.") Of course he couldn't hide himself from pyskers, but they would be puzzled/driven insane by the blinding light coming from the warp.

Then when he finally revealed himself he would be like, "Sup IoM, you guys really didn't turn out the way I wanted, so me and my sons are gonna clean house and start the crusades again!"

Makes you wonder how the Eldar and Dark eldar would like the idea that humans may gain access to the webways.... I don't think they would be to pleased, or just let it happen, also as to the constant response of the emperor would merely destry this or that, well no matter how powerful he is, he still can only be in one place at a time, unless he has developed some new tricks while on the golden throne.
And the Tyranids and Necrons are a fairly recent development in the timeline, and one that happened while the emperor has been " indisposed" so I don't think it would be dispatched with a wave of his hand, But the 40k universe is all about wargaming I personally would love to see a epic battle for survival happen that would take centuries to unfold, with a bit more vibrant empire , now with its true master at the helm ( whom has arrived at the vital juncture ) and now give humanity at least a glimmer of hope...if we can overcome our own worst tendencies.
But thats me I like the high drama, not the easy win. I guess I have always seen the emperor as part Julius Ceasar, part Napoleon with a healthy dose of messiah thrown in there, and not infallible, after all he could not overcome his own very human sentimentality about his favorite son.

And as to more primarchs, I think he has done that and had a 50% failure rate, so I would not see him trying that again...would seem foolish, but maybe something else like a elevation program for the training of Psycers, and harnessing that true human potential.

well thats my late night ramblings

a) the fluff mentions that he was within an inch of life.
b) they strapped him into the golden chair
c) some shark jumping occured and malcador gave him a "spark of his essence"
d) is it really the emperah on the throne?
- what is that spark
- does the spark of essence mean that:
- malcador imposed himself into the mind of the emperor?
- malcador transferred some of his power to the dying fetid corpse? (think battery wallwart charger)
e) what if that horrible secret, is that in that dried up corpse, exists but a spark of the sigillite.

this could explain occurances of rumoured reincarnations, sebastian thor et al.
