Thanks for the kind words though .
Personally,I'd stick with the "Tribal /Alien/Bio-Tech-mech" theme...that way you won't end up with a lot of "Patch work" your trying to tie together.
Spend time talking with your tattoo artist...anyone who's worth their guns will be able to help you develop a concept.

So true...though there does come a point (which I fear I may be nearing) where you either stop getting tattoos or you quit your job and go join a circus.

True...but if someone were to post photos of their newly painted Ultramarines Land Raider, would not the responses of " I hate Ultramarines".." Why would anyone play Ultramarines!".." Ultramarines suck!" be inappropriate?

Not really. Trolling aside, if that is their opinion then that is there opinion and can say what they want (subject tp the rules of the forum), though if the question was "how well do you think this Land raider is painted" and not "do you like Ultramarines" then it is simply trolling.
Bottom line: if you don't want feedback, don't ask for it, especially about personal things like tattoos, your looks, your fashion, your politics, your religion, your family, etc. etc.
You are setting yourself up to hear things you probably don't want to hear...
Keep in mind that if the OP had said "everybody who loves this tattoo post and let me know" in his original post then yes posting you dislike it would not be appropriate, but again: he simply asked what people thought of it...

well said, it blows me away that there are this many judgemental people on every single tattoo thread thats pops up, wargaming in general attracts those that from time to time fall outside the social norm, god knows the off-topic forum is filled with thredas about that topic alone, but what blows my mind is that the community will embrace those outside the realm of acceptability when it comes to wargaming, but when those of us who have Ink on our bodies share this fact we are treated like leppers in a colony of leppers. makes no sense.

So many? I think a grand total of one person has stated a negative opinion of the tattoo in this thread.
note: I have not stated anything negative about the tattoo, simply pointed out that ASKING for feedback in an open-ended way is an invitation to have some of it be negative.
IF you don't want negarive feedback then don't ask about such personal things on a public forum, or learn to ask in a way that expresses your desire to only hear praise and support...

Don't mind negative criticism at all. Perhaps just a little tired of the "you'll regret it" grandad argument. Apologies for jumping on the guy. Bring on the hate .
Bloodfever, it goes up and down. I'm somewhat limited by the ammount of money I have at the moment, but if I didn't, I imagine I'd have more than just the one. That answers your other question, yea this was my first. Had a few people say it was adventurous but you never know, this may be me one and done - I doubtit but you never know - and if it was, I wanted to get a big one. Screw a trial run with a little one

Or answering the OP's request...
There is really no need to try to play Sir Galahad here. the OP asked for Feedback. He got it.
Asumming that anyone who has a negative opinion of somethign they have been ASKED to provide feedback on is a "dick" is rather presumptious, and says more about your own ability to engage in honest debate then it does about the person whose opinion you disagree with.
But then that is often the problem with internet forums: People state "tell me what you think", when what they really mean is "tell me what validates my own beliefs/efforts and makes me feel good". However thiis rarely happens as this forum and most others attest to on a daily basis.
Thick skin is a mandetory requirement of the interwebz...

I still like the comparison with a modeling thread, the OP did not ask 'what is your opinion of tattoos in general' he asked for people's humble opinion on the art work involved. If someone posts up a space marine that looks like a 3 year old vomited paint onto it, you don't jump in and say 'that is the worst possible thing I've ever seen, you should feel ashamed of yourself'. you point out things that might help the painter improve or nothing at all. in this case you can offer useful advice on where to expand his tattoos, share experiences and maybe a cautionary tale or two. you don't jump in denounce his choice as something to be ashamed of. Yes this is a public forum, but it's not /b, there's no reason to attack people.

BH has it. Another example would be that a cop can give you a ticket for jaywalking when there are no cars in clear sight for a mile either way, but he'd be a jerk for doing so.
The OP did not ask to be preached at, nor did I say anyone was a dick (was at worst) and your ability to misstate what I said "says more about your own ability to engage in honest debate then it does about the person whose opinion you disagree with," nor was the OP only looking for generic pats on the back as far as I can tell.

The reason most of the tattoos on the elderly are military is becuase until roughly twenty ears ago tattoos were for enlisted soldiers and criminals and that was about it. It is only in recent times that they have become more socially acceptable, but more accepted doesn't mean totally accepted. It is also where the whole "oh you will regret it" attitude comes from. In another twenty years when the generations that have grown up with tattoos being more prevalent that argument will pop up less and less.

I think the OP's design is pretty damn cool. If it wasn't verboten by my church, I'd get a tattoo of an Ouroboros on my shoulder, but since the good book says
Leviticus 19:28 - New King James translation wrote:You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD.
I won't. (Note this is my view, not a judgment on the OP or any other tattoo having individual in this thread.) Heck, I think many tattoo's can look absolutely bitchin', it just ain't for me.
