So dudez, I finally got my tattoo finished. It took over 7 months of infrequent visits, many many ££ and a total of 11 hours plus touch ups. What do you artistic folks think?
It's a neo tribal, circuitry, city map, abstract... thing.
So it has no personal significance besides looking cool?
I hope your tastes don't change.

Yeah, i'm not opposed to the idea of tattoos, but for me to get one it would need to have a whole lot more personal signifigance than, "it looks cool." It would have to have some kind of symbolic meaning that really represented something I would carry with me for the rest of my life.

Well Im guessing theres a bunch of non tattoo fans posting
I like it man, looks pretty good. Ive heard that area around the under arm is a bit painful. So far my most painful (silly because its my smallest) is my zodiac I got on my hand. Its on that spongy part of the skin in between the index and thumb, on the back of your hand. It only took about 20mins, but holy hell that burned.
Sides I have friends that are in their 50s that still love their tattoos, just depends on what you like is all

I work at a hospital, which means I work with a lot of old people. Now, the tattoos I see tend to be more military, but I seldom hear"Oh I really regret that now that I'm 70/80". It mostly goes, "Thanks, I got that back in the 50's here/or this is what it means". I think as long as its not your ex's name, tattoos do not equal instant regret at a certain age.

I have a Serra Angel for 7th edition Magic the Gathering on my back. It isn't finished and I turned her into the angel of Death, but it looks okay I suppose. The thing is, I do regret it, but since it is on my back, I really don't have to look at it.
Everyone I know with tattoos think they're awesome and has yet to regret it in any way. The ones that do, I imagine, are the ones that put no thought into it.
This one took 2 years of searching for a style I liked, the paying of a professional artist to design, which in turn took a year. The application then took a further 7 months. This is a long road that I'm very pleased to have experienced.
That said, this tattoo means absolutely zip. It looks badass and because of its placement I often forget I have it. Everytime I see it, it makes me smile, is that enough reason?
Still, yes King the ribs were a bitch. I like to think I've got a high pain tolerance, but that was hitting at least an 8/10.
Hand is ballsy. At least I can hide mine if I want to .
General Top-tip: If you want to get foreign lettering, make sure you research what you want. You don't want to pick "Peace and Harmony" only for it to come out as something like "Crumble Buttmunch".

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

"You need not fear us, unless you are a dark heart, a vile one who preys on the innocent; I promise, you can’t hide forever in the empty darkness, for we will hunt you down like the animals you are, and pull you into the very bowels of hell." Iron - Within Temptation
That's what I think is great about it Slarg, I've had so many different interpretations of what it is. Some thing it's circuitry, others a city map, some have said some kind of machine.
Oh I can hide mine, gloves work well. But when its not cold, I just simply hold my hand (Im talking interviews and the like) but its pretty small. One job I had I worked there over a month before someone finally grabbed my hand and said "oh thats not marker, thats a tattoo!" Its about the size of the pad on your thumb, unless you have banana hands But yea, I too have a decent pain tolerance and Im tellin ya, that wasnt very pleasant, I wont bet getting a hand tattoo again thats for sure. BUT Im planning on getting a crucifix on both my wrists, so that might bring a new high for pain tolerance

So I get 60 years or enjoying it, and my final few years with all my wrinkled skin, failing faculties I don't find my tattoo sexy? Boohoo.
You ARE gonna regret it though.
Oh yeah? Time travelling space wizard that you are, please enlighten all of us poor uneducated peasants who mark our bodies, as to what we will feel when we're 80 years old. Are you an 80 year old man with tattoos? because if not you can take your comments elsewhere they are neither appreciated nor needed here. If OP got a tattoo thats his life choice not yours, so unless you live inside OP's mind like some jimmeny cricket parasite you have no room to speak about 'how he'll feel in 60 years.'

Looks good! I am a pro tattoo man myself, about to get some more done to my sleeve in a fortnight! :-) I do agree that they should have some significance in your life, as they really do become part of who you are, the pain and time you put into having something done, somehow helps define you, that's how I feel anyhow, mine represents some things that happened to me over the course of my life that haven't been the greatest but i've managed to overcome everything and become a stronger man for it, I like the fact that it's reflected on my skin as it helps remind me that every day i can do what I need to do and be who i need to be, I also get frustrated by the anti tattoo movement, people who don't have one but are so strongly opinionated about the blatant stupidity of them that they won't even listen to why we wish to express ourselves with body art! and like you said, if it makes YOU smile when you look at it, well then, job done, it means something to you and makes you happy, we all get them for different reasons and motivations, but in the end if you like it and you're happy well that's all that matters! and i must admit yours is different, not a style i've seen often in my time! almost aztec themed.

I basically provided inspiration for it, saying other tattoos and things that I like. I ended up listing Faith's tattoo from Mirror's Edge, Maori shoulder pieces, circuitry, chemical symbols and the like. This was all whisked about by this lady who officially designed it:
