seems i have hit a nerve with the ogryns^^
today i have the first one based so to better work further on him from now on...in no short time i will begin with GS...a premier...
so this is what the brute looks now...i, myself see a lot of work and a lot of things not fitting for the scheme, and this wil have to be worked with...at least i cantell you that he is big and brutish...
a bit shy he only wanted to show is back at first...
then he got warmer with the cam and opened up enough to give me a full front bodyshot...
the arms i used are a clubwileding one and a beartrap wielding one both sans weapons...
speaking of weapons i give you the first try of a ripper gun...the image of the one posted by shrike i couldn´t get rid of in my mind...so:
amde from a misslelauncher and two cleavers...

Love the ripper so far. What is the material you are you using for the body? He seems to rather a large manhood (ogrynhood?) atm, Is this intentional? Personaaly i would bulk ou the waist a bit, better he has a bit of a belly than be skinny IMO. Like the large feet, gives him a good look.

i was pretty unsure about the feet... the waist will get thicker too as i will add a lyer of GS the next days...the "manhood" as you namend it is a byproduct of the skeleton of sprues underneath... couldnt do more wip pics earlier as the stuff i use, kneadatie i think its called in english is rather messy and stinks like hell...i had to use superglue in the process too and it is after four days of work in an overall still sticky state...^^
the anhood will probably either filed down for decency or , a bit that i think gets more and more dearer to me hidden under a scotsman kilt... then a scotish bonet and i think they will fit neatly into the reigns of the victorian army...they also will egt lots of bolter mag puches from SM as some kind of
amobelt from shoulder to hip over the breast...
the material i use is some kind of putty gleulike stuff for household work...when you have holes to fill and other manyl things to do...two part epoxy of the cheaper kind...

Lol you should get your wife to file down the manhood. Surely a man couldnt do that to a fellow male, even if he is a tiny ogre.

that is correct^^
so i have to ask do you have worked with GS at all? since i only used this epoxy stuff i only know crumbly and rather unsatifying materials that mix not well, is GS better to mix? i am very hesitant to even open the package i have at home...seems to me when i open it the bubble of hope might burst and the blast of that might shatter my confidence...

Greenstuff has a very cohesive almost rubbery texture when dried. When working it water is best, Just tip your sculpting tool (or whatver you're using) in water each time you try and smooth it or sculpt a detail. judging from your pics i would recommend tipping your tools in vaseline each time you try and sculpt with the putty you have atm. EDIT, I reckon that the stuff he is made out of at the moment can be diluted with water like clay before it dries making it really easy to smooth but Very difficlt to detail. In britain i think that stuff is called miliput.

i have a packet of miliput too, the stuff i use now is frome a DIY store and rather missused on my account but for now as i want to learn it works...on some parts i have used water as a way to smooth and dilute the material... you can see smoother parts and then some rather crumbly zones... the one feet particular is rather unsatisfying...
the next ogryn, after this is finished will be getting a bit of better planning and work for him...i will probably make a wire skeleton or if still sprue skeletin i make the whole beforehand and then start the putty work...
well you live you learn... hopefully...

so i am stll in full battle with the ogryn...today marks my first time...first time with GS that is... i have to say i am not quite a fan to it.... if i had my little way i would still use air dry clay...but this would be without so much details and a rather fragile model after the sculpting so i better master that material GS and be payed off with a stable mini afterwards...
tho i have to say i could smooth the material quite good and even got some small scale acheivments in sculpting finer detail like the soles of its boots...
well i cut the oversized "manhood" with a clipper as the whole mini to that time was still sticky and not cured through...after a full nigt curing... well thsi seems odd to me...after that i got into full steam and produced the ambrosia of sculpters, the green stuff...
i have to say the first handling of the stuff was quite difficult and i sweared quite a lot to myself.but after i got both parts of the GS out of their seperate tubes the mixing went quite well and i was very satisfied with the substance...i think my mixture was a bit bluer than average but that was just as well...then i began to produce smaller blobs of GS and then aplied it to the mini...in the process of doing so i discovered that the pose of the arms was quite the hinderance...so the arms had to leave the constructionsite so to speak...after that the sculpting work went quite well and i have covered the better part of the mini in green putty...i think io will bring back the arjms in the next step and then cover them up too in such way as to imply that the ogryn wears a full uniform...so here are the pics and later i have some questions regarding design to you...
backside:
still backside, notice the sole on the left boot...:
and then the frontshot...with a bit of a tummy for adding a bit of character to the model...:
so now i want to ask you what i should do next....
yesterday i have told you my thoughts about a maybe adding a kilt to the ogryn...should i do that still or would trousers and boots be evenly good?
also if i add a shirt/jacketsleeves to the arms, how would i do that? someone got some helpful tuts to provide?
and if i want to still add a bonet to the head should i cut a bit of for that or would it work if i just aplied a very moderate blob of GS there?
thanks for shoing in and i would greatly apreciate some comments and a helpful pointing hand in a direction of guidance^^

you are really quick to sketch such a pic so lifelike on your pc...you even did the beard right^^
i love the belly, doubt it nevertheless if i could pull it off the same way...i think you are right that the kilt might look odd now...cargopants will look more into character...
do you think the boots and legs are too thick?

Maybe a bit if i'm honest, but i think it will look fine if the rest of the ogre looks good. One thing i would sugest is filing the back of the legs or adding a little extra bulk in the bum region. As i reckon an ogre would have a pretty large butt lol...

i have to say the belly i did only to use the rest of the GS i mixed and didn´t want to go to waste.... but after i wriggled aroud that blob i saw how fitting the belly would look.. so tommorrow i will add a bit to the bumsection^^ and i think a major blob of gs smoothed ou to get the arms and upper torso in line of the lower body... and looking at mi pics i have to second your comment on the behind of the ogryn... he looks rather un nnatural flat in that department...

Just make him a little textured on the back, and do not forget the shoulder muscles Vik! Look at weight lifter mags for inspiration if you must.

Hey Vik was doing some practise sculptin last nite and i found a 50:50 mix of Green stuff and milliput (the yellow, blue, grey and white mixed together) created a really good material. I christen this new substance 'Khaki Stuff'. BTW i suddenly feel an urge to sculpt an ogryn/ogre now, my grenstuff, milliput, tools and vaseline (NO! i only use it for sculpting! ) have been gathering dust for too long.

at TNM yep probably and i use the parts to get more structure to my ogryn too^^
at shrike...maybe next month i will spring into action...^^
at perkustin...sounds promising...not the vaseline^^ ...if you start the action be sure to post some of your pics here ...i like some inspiration and a source to nick some ideas like the next best chap^^
so did a bit of work on my model...the work was better flowing today...the mixture was still a bit to blueish and thus a bit harder than needed... have to fix that next time for sure...maybe first get the yellow and then the blue as then i can take lesser amounts of blue...
still i did an effort and repositioned both arms again to the body...the GS was quite long sculptable and i did some work on the shoulders, back and waisti think i am far from an end to the sculpting here...still groundwork to be done.. but still it is shaping up quite well and i get better at applying the GS to the sculpt...
so see for yourself...:
some with flash

some without flash and the setting sunlight...

thanks for tuning in...leave some C&C for me to learn and get better^^

All I can say is well done, and my criticism is try to have a line to define the boots and the legs.
and add some creases to the trousers.
and the top.
and more lines to show the top-to-shirt, top-to-neck, top-to-trousers.
and add a teeny bit more definition to...um...his...bosom?

Exellent you can now start on the details! Thats always why i never got round to doing a scratch sculpt, the bulking bit is quite tedious. I have started on the legs, annoyingly i found a really good way of doing armatures AFTER i had started super gluing wires together. I have bulked the feet, knees and thighs. I dont notice the width of the feet anymore so great job on getting the proportions. I like the slope of the shoulders, looks very natural. EDIT: @SHrike LOL!

i think in terms of growing up we´ve lost shrike underway...and will probably never fi9nd him agian and he wont get there on his own...well...
you really think it is thime for deatail? well...this makes me lighthearted and crestfallen in the same time... now i cann add character for real to the mini and now i HAVE to add charcter to the mini...
i think i will be quite nervous now as this is normally the moment when i really f...k things up...
but to tell you the truth i have recently recovered a veryx small ball of GS at the construction site and rolled it up to a lil sausage which i then put round the head like a bandana...a further layer will have to come too but it fave me a bit of confidence that if i take only very small measurements of GS i can come up with finer detail...
i have been thinking of adding SM shoulderpads as maybe kneepads... and later i will add some bits to the mini too so to getsome high definition detail too...like SM Bolterpouches for the cargopants look and such things...should i give the ogryn a backpack? something similar like the cadian one?...only bigger?
i am still a bit unsure of the arms position and my selfmade rippergun...maybe i will use it on the next mini...for now i think i have to make a totally new weapon ... tried a bit of posing with an autogun and i have to say it doesn´t look fitting... now i snapped the hand with the fromer beartrap off and will redo that too...i am still thinking i will get this hulking son of the emperor a mini gatling...how does that sound?...i think i will print out now a version of the maxmini one for reference...^^
vik Automatically Appended Next Post: by the way... if you are so ahaead of the sculpting ... why not share some pics? even bad ones i would love to see...
