Of course you might be trying to conserve a killpoint or two with them, but that doesn't seem like you.
Sorry if it is a silly comment, just seems like that extra 40 points could go to something better.
So you can still shoot your dark lance and have a save. It's also an invulnerable save and doesn't have the weaknesses of a cover save.
40 points for a 33% increase in survivability for all your raiders is a steal.

Looks like Phish was already here with most of the advice I would have given, even down to the love of my life, 5 Warriors w. Blaster in a Dakka venom.
I'm emotionally where you're at, because I'm looking at the number of Troop Raiders and going "ehhhh" but what you're doing is so different than my lists currently. I'd make up the point difference in having some cheaper troop options like the aforementioned Dakka Venom.
Knowing me, I'd trim down Wych units a shade, but from your batreps it's clear we use our Wyches differently and I don't think my optimal numbers are your optimal numbers. And that's really where you're eating the biggest lockdown of points unless you wanted to trim a Trueborn off each of those boats, and I'm not thinking that's optimal statistically.
This looks like it could work some excellent numbers at 1850, but I think something is inherently flawed with getting it to work at 2000. Probably my advice would be trimming a Trueborn+Blaster from each boat - that gets you 80+ points right there, +30 odd from your remainder currently - that's enough to actually add another Troop option, I'm pretty sure that gets you even Wyches if you pare down the current squads to 8 each and drop the Shattershard, or maybe just drop one Haemy outright.
Congrats on getting me to look at a DE list and having me start thinking of the Haemys as the point sinks - jerk

Tactical Analysis:
The advice I give people regarding kabal armies tends to aim at this kind of archetype, and I see its use becoming more prevalent.
1. A kabal is heavily vested in its ability to shut down enemy firepower to preserve itself - getting the "Alpha Strike" is critical. Having Baron Sathonyx along to grant +1 to your roll to go first is an asset without equal in this regard.
2. The wyches provide a solid close combat unit, and the haemonculi gives them a pain token from the start for Feel No Pain to extend their survivability. I consider them a mandatory unit in a TAC army because of the haywire grenades - they are the only answer to Monoliths and Blessed Hull landraiders; while also being a powerful tool against any other vehicles.
3. Baron Sathonyx runs with the beast unit to give them +1 cover to extend their survivability. He also grants them offensive and defensive grenades, letting them assault at their normal initiative through cover. I juggle between 5x Khmerae and 9-10 Khymerae (at the cost of a trueborn or two and wargear). The unit has flexiiblity - the Razorwing rending can penetrate rear armour, khymerae can glance it, and against infantry, they can use the Baron to pile in and generally strike first, or separate to get a 12" assault.
4. This army has enough Darklight weaponry to literally cover the battlefield in it - if 40k happened in realtime, there would literally be a storm of darklight weaponry streaming across the battlefield - thus the name 'Darklight Storm." While it doesn't guarantee a vehicle-less enemy army in one turn, Ketara has outlined the spirit of it; a shaken enemy vehicle means that a DE vehicle will likely survive as a result.
5. Just as important is the prevalence of splinter weaponry amongst the venoms and warriors. Against Spacewolves, two squads of longfangs will statistically fall to splinter cannons....BEFORE darklight weaponry even opens fire. Dealing with the infantry that spill out of a wrecked or exploded transport is important - and depending on their contents, can be just as important as neutralizing the vehicle itself.
This is my vision of the perfected kabal taking the field. It isn't the only working kabal theme, but it is the one that I've tailored to what I consider to be the height of competitive possibility, and encouraged others to try continuously. I've since returned to my roots as a Wych Cult player, but this army in the hands of a capable player is literally unparalleled on the field in its ability to inspire terror in your feeble enemies.
As I said in my OP, I'm not interested in substituting warriors in venoms for wyches in raiders - coming from an army that is statistically lethal at range that I simply cannot get to consistently perform because of dice. While I recognize the power of 5 warriors in a venom.....and have used it from the day the codex came out, I'm intentionally abandoning them as a unit. I can't say strongly enough that "Add in some shooting units" won't convince me to do it for this list. I have a DE shooting army. They've terrorized tournaments across the lower half of the United States. I *know* how unreasonable it sounds to point to dice and say "They don't let me shoot well" but the results are consistent.

The two wyches I was fighting against got two wounds back on me - the Baron failed his shadowfield save with a 1, and the wych I put the other wound on failed the 4+ Invul and died.
Game 3: I had three close combats.
#1: 10 Blood Angel Assault Marines assaulted into 6x wyches. I struck first at I6 with +1 weapon skill; 3+ to hit, 5+ to wound. I caused 2 wounds out of 6 wyches, which were both passed....and based on the pile-in, only 4 guys could swing back at me; they did 8 wounds; I failed 7 of them and was wiped. Fortunately, from where they consolidated to, my partner's nine killa-kans got to assault them and another unit, almost picking off half the BA army in one assault; talk about capitalizing on bad enemy choices. =D
#2: My other 5 wyches and my baron separately assaulted into the same 5 man grey hunter squad later in the game - they had an attached rune priest. Between the baron (at STR6) and the wyches (at STR3, with WS5), I did 3 wounds to the grey hunters, they failed one. The baron took two wounds from a grey hunter, and the squad took four. The baron rolled  for his first save; poof - Shadowfield gone. Then he rolled  for his second save. Poof, two wounds. My wyches failed 2/4 (average). I passed leadership for both units, and the Baron Hit and Run to get away (killpoint game and I wasn't trying to give up free killpoints.
Baron Sathonyx met an untimely end the following turn when an exploding vehicle send a piece of shrapnel through his eye and into his brain, causing him to lose his last wound.
The wyches were stuck in combat for another turn game turn, until I lost the lone wych remaining on my turn, letting him consolidate, then move and assault into some trueborn that had spent 2 turns failing to kill the rhino the grey hunters had emerged from. 3+ to hit and the best I can roll is 1,1,2. The trueborn got multi-assaulted along with an immobilized ravager....he only put two guys into the trueborn, who failed 2/2 saves, with one guy left passing leadership so that he's still locked in combat - so I didn't get to shoot at him my next turn. =p
I didn't keep track of my darklight weapon performance this game.
Having a single game where you get 2/26 hits with darklight weapons is an anomoly to put in your hall of suckage.....but my dice are *consistent* in performing poorly. The best I can do to mitigate that is to shift reliance from shooting into assault; where I have a bit more control over how many dice get rolled where due to the speed of the army.

Just curious.. Did the crucible of malediction come before or after the announcement of the GK codex?
Anyone brought up the idea about dropping a trueborn squad & grabbing a 5th Wyches squad? The points nearly add up, close enough to warrant juggling.

I'm a bit late on the scene here but figured I might as well chip in anyway. I'm trying to make an assault based DE list work (I already have a Mechdar list so have no interest in going the shooty route) and at the moment I'm basing it around Wyches. I'm still tweaking it at the moment but the core is basically staying the same, just swapping around 1 unit. Feel free to ignore this completely but it might get some ideas going I guess. He means you should always get a decent Drugs roll and means you can Deep Strike if you so choose, which would actually work very well combined with Blaster Trueborn if you take them as they can disembark and shoot (I would be dropping the Reavers I guess, which is definitely an option). Even with the Wyches Deep Striking is probably a better option than turboing on to the field if you are going second vs something like Mech Guard (drop within your charge range and shoot with a 5++ to fall back on rather than just moving flat out into his face). He also gives a squad boosted Poison although I'm using Incubi instead atm. The Haemonculi can either start with the Reavers or a unit of Wyches (outside their transport if you are going first). They then jump in with the Wracks and move up, jumping out again next turn and taking the Wracks pain token to the Wyches. This saves me having to buy Haemonculi for every squad, and means that if I roll a 6 for Drugs almost everything starts fully boosted and ready to go. The only downside is that not everything has FNP all the time (which isn't the end of the world really, if a Raider goes down before you hit combat that unit is usually a write off anyway) and it limits the Wracks to being a scoring Venom (which is fine, it still leaves me with 6 scoring units). Everything else is pretty straightforward really. The Ravagers and Reavers hunt armour (the Reavers are slightly more effective than 4 Blaster Trueborn assuming they get range, that +1 on the chart is huge), the Venoms give me enough range anti infantry to deal with stuff like Long Fangs. The Shattershard and the Incubi give me a couple of good burst damage options to quickly remove units which could otherwise take a while to torrent to death or slowly beat to death with Wyches. Cutting the Agonisers is an easy place to save points, the Venom Blade is incredibly cheap and its hard to justify 15 pts extra per squad for a single power weapon wound per round. Either way you tend to rely on getting enough standard wounds through to win combats. Hopefully my long spiel was at least slightly helpful lol.

The argument about Flickers giving 33% more vehicules is not considering you can get cover saves instead.
By playing 1st, you can Flat-out giving a 4+, and by playing 2nd, you can flat out from reserves.
Not saying that Flickers are useless, but even buying them, you will search for cover because 4+ is better.
In the backfield, Venoms, shooting at 36, can help give cover to Ravagers.
So, same list than Dash, but with a minimalist approach on Haemies, no Flickers, and with most dangerous FA unit : Beasts, instead of Liquifiers than can be disposed by killing 1 Haemy guy.

Haemonculus x3, 150
3 x 3 Trueborns, 3 Blasters, Venom, 2nd Canon, 146
4 x 8 Wyches, Hekatrix, Agonizer, Grenades, Raider, 186

Opponent must quickly handle 4 x FNP wyches, and 2 beast units running forward.
I've kept Shattershard, which is arguably the most dangerous artefact in the codex.

Dash how you would go with such list vs mech Eldar? I played today, but dice gods was away, so it took lots of actions to took down even half of their vehicles. His list was Falcon, 3 serpents, 2 walkers, 3 walkers, 2x2 vypers, vypers in front then walkers then other skimmers, on first turn charge i only wrecked his vypers and then slowly killed small squadron of walkers in hth, while his 3x10 avengers pwned my army away.
anyway on 6 turn he scored one of three flags with one dude in falcon about who i completely forgot.

Hi Dash,
I was wondering what your tactics with this Cult list is vs a MSU Ork Trukk list: 2 Warbosses with Meganobs, Kan wall supported by Lootas?
Do you just try refused flank and hope you can bust their Trukks faster than he busts your Raiders?
How do you kill those MegaNob: Ravagers or Blasters, once their trukk is gone? I don't see wyches holding long vs such a unit unless it is seariously weakened.
I guess you have a real tactic for this, right?

I cannot shoot for $*!* - it's why I played salamanders - 2 flamers per squad meant some hits... altohugh melee is always where it's been to win.
I'm thinking BA... but to be honest with the price hike a last rabid grab of DE might be an idea..
Any ideas for scaling down to 1500pts as that's what we play where I am?
