You can do an entire army of nothing but monkeys, their handler and gorillas. And probably beat face with it.

A week ago you were arguing how the new GK fluff is stupid... change of heart?
Either way if i ever get my hands on enough monkeys to make this army i will, along with a monkey Coteaz armed with his monkey hammer (banana) and using the monkey pattern chimera armed with the monkey cannon...
Way too much fun doing this...

Yeah, maybe. But you never know on the internet.

But seriously, as dumb as it may be, Jokaero fit the fluff. It's in there. And as the Inquisition, there's nothing they won't do or try....

For those who may be interested a google search turned up the above site which has 25 mm minis at a pretty decent price. they have 3 different chimps at just under $2 apiece or a set of 9 chimps for just under $12. They also have 3 different Colobus monkeys individually and as a set of 9 for around the same prices as the chimps as well as 3 different Orangutan models also for under $2 each. The Orangutan's are not offered as a set though.

So it is possible to create the Planet of the Apes army at a reasonable cost, cash wise, however, I still don't think that the All monkey army makes for a viable army list.
Fun? yes. Feasible? Yes. Competitive? not a chance in hell.

As i said before a group of Eldar Wave Serpents with star engine, vectored engine, and either scatter laser/shuriken cannon or shuriken cannon/shuriken cannon, backed up by Fire Prisms firing dispursed Prism beams could quite possibly get close enough to actually do some serious damage to the All monkey list. The monkey's lascannons would be reduced to str 8 due to the serpents force shield, and the multi-melta bit wouldn't get the additional armour pen dice also due to the serpents shields, not to mention the cover save for moving at full speed. On turn one the serpents can be across the board and in the monkeys faces, the Fire Prisms firing together would twin link allowing for a reroll of the scatter die using the lg template, making for str 7 ap 4 lg blast rather than the usual str 6 ap 5 for a dispursed shot (I think, I'm not sure the dispursed beam is linkable), but if it is it would kill off a buttload of monkeys pretty quick, and with the holofield on the Fire Prisms, there's a good chance of surviving the monkey's banana spam.

Get the Wave Serpents into place and drop off Dire Avengers w/ Bladestorm, Howling Banshees w/ Acrobatic or Harlequins w/ kisses, and Fire Dragons or Dark Reapers w/ Fast Shot for short/medium range support, and the monkeys are toast. To add insult to injury toss in a Scatter Laser Falcon equipped with star engine, vectored engine, holofield and carrying a Farseer with Spirit Stones, Guide, Doom, and Eldritch Storm, as well as the Farseer's retinue of Warlocks w/ Destructor, Enhance, and Conceal, Then dump in an Autarch with wings added to a group of Swooping Hawks w/ Skyleap.

Nuff said.

Do you know what would be an awesome army idea?

An all monkey henchman army, with Coteaz being represented by a Monolith (you know which one I'm talking about!).

It's a game. Maybe from time to time you don't need to take it seriously. I would play this laughing the whole time and enjoy it. Obviously not all the time, but once or twice... yeah it'd be fun.

Thank you for pointing this ot to the overly-serious...

Also, those Heavy Flamers will not do much more to mitigate what other Codexes can throw at this list.

so we proxied this the other night in our FLGS, Corteaz and four 6 man squads of monkeys at 1,000pts vs my chaos marines with a lash/wings demon prince, 2 7 man plague marines units and four oblits. monkeys were almost wiped by turn two.

the whole thing is really a 1 trick, glass hammer. bs 3 really nerfs the devastation that could be done with lascannons plus the 5+ invul goes down to math hammering rapid fire way too easily.

monkey army without support = extreme fail.

Thanks for debunking this list.

Now let's can this thread and move forward.

Out of curiosity, do you think the game would have gone any differently if the Jokaero were deployed as six units of 4 models each? There would be more targets for the Chaos player, and the GK player would probably waste less shots if he was targeting vehicles or small units. In addition, you don't get any modification bonuses when you take 6 Jokaero in the same unit, but you have a chance to roll a 4 and 5 for modifications if you take 4-model units.

An important aspect of the army list that is being argued and will need to be FAQ-ed is the possibility of unlimited Troops choices. For example, if the GK army is allowed to consist of Coteaz and 8 units of Jokaero at 3 models per unit, instead of 4 units at 6 models per unit, it changes how the army can play quite drastically. That's what seems to be upsetting most people, is the idea of an unlimited number of objective-claiming heavy weapons units.

Finally, if the Jokaero almost got wiped out in turn 2 due to rapid-firing bolters at 12", they certainly weren't played correctly!

By 'serious' I mean, 'I cannot suspend disbelief enough to accept this.' I play this game to have fun, and it's not fun when suspension of disbelief gets broken to all hell and thrown out the window, screaming all the way. One monkey I can accept. I don't exactly hate the model, nor do I hate the rules. What I can't believe in is an army of them.

Although, if an all-Jokaero army is anything like this, you'll see it once, be disappointed, and want your money back.

It doesn't seem to be unlimited, Corteaz makes henchmen squads troop choices, as per FOC you are allowed 6 Troop choices. Black and White, no limitless monkeys.

Oaka wrote:

ummm sorry for not seizing the initiative? Chaos went first and I had no real choice in the matter even with Corteaz's re-roll. so lash turn 1, plus 4 oblits dropping p-cannon templates on another two squads pretty much ruined three squads turn one. on my turn the opponent was making good invul saves on the demon prince, plus bs 3 on the jokaero was really hurting they're effectiveness. turn two the rhinos moved up another 12 inches hopped out and proceeded to blast away at the remaining jokaero squads.

tru i could have moved them out of harms way but then they wouldn't have been able to shoot and the demon prince as well as the plague marines would have made it to my lines. as far as the jokaero go, they killed the demon prince and then all died, while Corteaz went on to kill all the plague marines and a rhino before being lascannon sniped by the oblits.

summary: Humans with Hammers > Monkeys with Laser Cannons.

It may be true, it may be "QFT" but what the hell is this doing in this thread More annoying then people whining about OP are people who go into every *****FUN***** thread (and specifically marked as one) and start this OP talk. Original thread idea was to find something fun, not talk about overpowered, powerful or even viable list. Only fun ones.
So next time all you people think before you write about how annoying OP talks are. Numerous times you are the one who started it...
