WAIT! STOP! THIS ISN'T A WHINING THREAD!

Alright, this is more of a funny thing we picked up while reading the GK codex today. You can have an army of 30 lascannons. The list is as follows.

Cortez
3 henchman squads of nothing but monkeys at 350pts per squad.

You now have 30 BS4 lascannons aiming down field.

You can also have a possibility of Guardsman in terminator armor.

Has anyone else found these funny things hidden in the Grey Knight codex?

Coteaz, not Cortez, and I honestly would not take the lascannon monkey army seriously. I simply couldn't. I would play against anything else they throw at me....but an army of laser cannon monkeys is asking me to suspend disbelief a little TOO much.

I wouldnt take it seriously... not enough anti-infantry. I mean, 30 lascannons facing you is awesome...

But, the monkeys, they go splat!

All you need to do is get into combat or shoot at them from hardcover...

They will need to sacrifice some guns for mobile armour to be effective in a full scale scenario, not a vacuum.

What is the statline on the monkeys?

They were lacking in the save department. I don't remember exactly, but they have a 5 or 6 up invulnerable and no regular save. Though I think their chart can grant them a regular save.

Those monkeys are easier to kill than Guardsmen, unless their wacky power gives them a solid invuln save that game. The Planet of the Apes list is a funny theory, but you won't see it since it's like 12 bucks a mini. I wouldn't call it overpowered, since any army of Ork boyz would just move up for a few turns then krump em all in hand to hand. Also, you can't have Guardsmen in Terminator armor. You can give power armor to a henchman, which basically makes them a poor man's Sister of Battle.

You give warrior henchmen power armour, a storm bolter and a powerfist, then a monkey thing can roll a 6 which gives them +1 to their armor and a 5+ invul save. Guardsman in terminator armour for 1 less point. Plus, the Planet of the Apes list can be made using beastmen, and would be really fun to play.

At 1150 points and 31 T3 models that army seems vulnerable to simple small arms fire. Jokaero fall to lasguns, shootas, and normal close combat attacks like 35 point Guardsmen. Those 15 lascannon hits a turn (they're BS3) can hurt armor but there isn't enough volume of fire to stop dismounted units simply walking over and wrecking face. Once you start taking casualties the effectiveness falls apart fast of course.

I lol'd.

But seriously, if you played like a 2000 points game with other units to back up the monkey's weaknesses, it would probably be nasty.

Except that the scenario isnt.

How much would Coteaz + 30 Jokaero be?

350pt x 3 + coteaz = ?

Do the Jokaero's micro weapon only count as a Lascannon now? Because I remember hearing that they're kinda like Obliterators in the test version.

Don't Orks do this anyways, no matter who their fighting?

anyways, on topic a group of Eldar jetbikes, a couple of wave serpents with fire dragons, howling banshees, and dire avengers in them would make the planet of apes, slink back into the mists of obscurity from whence they came, especially if you equip the serpents with star engines, vectored engines, and oh, i don't know, scatter lasers or shuriken cannons. Add to that a couple of fire prisms with holo fields firing dispursed shots and there may not even be enough monkey's left alive to slink away.

I don't know what's worse. The valid issues in the new Grey Knight codex, or the people complaining about things they have no clue are even in the Grey Knight codex.

30 Lass cannons, gaurd in termi armour = overpowered? no is the short answer.

30 lass cannons would make a mess of an mech army but vs a troop heavy army and not just the usual troop heavy cc ones im pretty sure a gaurd gunline would mess that up quick and for the cc armies orks, nids and the BA DoA would do much the same.

I keep seing loads of thsi GREY KNIGHTS ARE OVERPOWERED, i dont see how tbh. They have a few ott special chars and a few evil units, purifiers i think they are but really i dont think they are going to be the ultimate army. Folks were saying thsi about BA and SW and both armies i have played against and beaten and lost to. Its only going to be the same when they finally do crons, tau and the rest they seem to forget about. Actually didnt folks say that DE were the new super army when they came out.

That happens every time a new codex comes out. Literally every single time. Everybody goes crazy about how X is overpowered and will literally be the end of the game, then the codex comes out. For about a month or two everybody's scared of it, then everyone figures out how to fight it and things are generally sane again.

Grey Knights will do well against a lot of things, and by and large have the tools to deal with most threats, but those tools are very expensive and very hard to fit in one list.

They really that expensive pts wise? Well if pts are high there going to be slightly better but still i doubt there overpowered, the smaller specialist armies have always been difficult to play against and if GK are now in that catogory then its nothing new.

Im going to have a quick scan over the GW GK page see if theres stat lines for a few things and what not.

You really think people aren't going to figure out how to kill less marines than usual for two or three years? I mean, I don't put too much faith in humanity, but I like to have a little more than that.

The sky is falling! RUN!

For an army that gets hit so hard by psychic hoods and dies just as easily as normal marines, the hoo-haah around the GKs is kinda overdone. It's not like they've got FC and FNP available for every squad. Sure, most of the stuff seems amazing, but at the kind of point cost the stuff packs they better be!

I dunno, I am a CC person and there is too much what I saw in there that scares me. I read it once and its options scare me more than fighting off Ork hoards or BA.

Plus there is I.G and lord knows they get tons of nice stuff.
They are just loaded with plasma and Melta weapon options which can wreck anyones day. I just got tabled by I.G infact....tried drop pods and....yeah...never drop podding I.G again.

From now on its Razorbacks, Rhino or Land Raider to get me there.

They seem to be ANOTHER ARMY! nothing that any other amry is or isnt, nothing special and nothing really new. yes they get access to some mean stuff but so does every other army (that has been redone). I stand by this until i play a GK army and lose every time with the 3 armies i have, if a Gk army can beat my pure cc nids, my pure shooty SM and my mega mix of or orks then ill be convinced there the best army ever. Till then another army and another flavour of the month.

Because if you charge into me like a bull-headed idiot expecting your wargear to save you exactly like I want you to, then you should lose.

Grey Knights have always been strong counter assaulters. It should be no surprise that the new codex makes that point even more apparant.
