Unless the ogres have Ironfists in which case it might be 8 attacks+stomp.
any Hero would probably make way to kill you.

With overkill counting towards combat res, my characters love challenges now....except for that annoying van horsons speculum (sp?); I hate that thing.
Friend charged me with those empire knights that have a 1+ save, I challenged and killed his priest and did 3 wounds in overkill between that and the wounds my BSB and unit dealt out, I watched the 16 strong knight unit run and get caught by my ogres (took the banner that gives +1 move). It was a great day.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

Ogre Characters are perhaps the toughest ones to kill in fantesy.
4-5 wounds and T5 means you need GWs to even be wounding on 4s. they can also take Mawseeker which makes them T6.
add in a cheap Ward and any of the awsome weapons they can have and they can curb stomp just about anything short of a Dragon or a Speculum toting dude.

Why 40 handgunners all in one unit, though? Seems like, say, four units of 10 or two of 20 would serve you better.
I actually take a parent unit of twenty and two detachments of 10, to give me a power shooting unit and 2 units that can either add to the fire power or shoot things outside of my parent units vision.
We could assume that the knights have lances (I know they had greatswords, but still, lets see what would happen)
P.S Could someone else run the calculations, Im lazy and just woke up.

my first set was the Knights with lances.
they won by 5, but took 5 casualities and the ogres are steadfast. 2nd round will see them gone.

They didnt seem that hard to kill to my Mindrazor witch elves!
Though even then it took them 2 turns to finish that unit off.

Dwarf solution=Slayer dart 26 points a turn to tarpit 800+ points of ogres + characters. Half the ogre army is now tarpitted by 130-150ish points in slayers at the low cost of 26 points a turn. In a 2,500 point game that's half the ogre army if there is 400 points of characters in that unit. The game is now 2350 points of dwarves versus 1250 of Ogres for a minimum of 5 combat rounds.
Any other army=purple sun the ogres, or mind razor+flaming attacks. High elf spears with a flaming attack and mind razor would do the trick.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Barring Purple Sun, sniping its character with the Lore of Death and holding it up with a big unit of Wraiths it can't hurt might work.
Vampire Lord with Frostblade, Red Fury and Infinite Hatred will kill about 5 Ogres a round, might not be enough.
The one game I played against Ogres was at 2,000pts and I ended up tarpitting it with a unit of 60 Skeletons, getting a rear charge with wraiths and throwing all my power dice into keeping those Skeletons alive while killing the rest of his army which was like a giant and some leadbelchers.

Don't forget those stomps. Should kill at least 2 slayers a round, and maybe another 2 with impact hits on the 1st turn.
As for the skeleton wraith combo, if you needed to replace skeletons, the combat res should have whacked the wraiths too.

Warp Lightning cannons DO NOT fail at killing much of anything dood. That D6 wounds on ANYTHING touching the template is just sick. Then if you wanna b a bastard, take 2 warp lightning cannons. ^_^
Another way Skaven can deal with them is the Wither/Plague combo. Those are really our best weapons aside from Rat ogres.
Skitterleap/Cracks Call is another good one too. I wouldnt do it with a GreySeer tho

Warplightining cannons are hardly cannons.
they are a small template that scatters in much the same way as a cannon, but they are NOT cannons.

Panic is quite good. Ogres aren't exactly well known for having brilliantly reliable LD.
Panic or break in combat. With Empire I did charge a deathstar (I think it was ironguts) with 9 inner circle knights plus Templar grand master. All with GWs. They were pretty much slain to a man and ran after causing 2 ogre casulties.
But Van Horstman's speculum is great for taking out Ogre characters, just make sure your opponent doesn't guess you have it and decline the challenge.
I must say that cannons are not fail against ogres. Yes you hit less ogres but d6 wounds and S10 are not to be sniffed at.
Helblaster generally works scarily well for me against anything.

The thing with (regular) cannons: on average, you'll kill one ogre/turn. Other turns, you might kill the first and maybe the second. Or, you might do 1-2 wounds on the first guy, who pulls the cannonball out of his bellybutton, brushes of the lint, and eats it.
On second thought, forget about the part with the brushing off the lint.

Mindrazor DEFINITLY works.
I have been on the recieving end of Mindrazored Witch elves. they did take 2 rounds of combat to do it though.
Ogre players should definitly try and get rid of Shadow Wizards with Mindrazor. that or get Trollguts up which will mitigate the damage.
