Kanluwen, Makarov was in a military academy and in the Russian airborne according to CoD, but he never met up with the Russian government and said "Hey I have an idea, let's go to war with America!".

Makarov was part of the group that was anti-current Russian government so saying that he worked with the Russians is incredibly wrong. Makarov wanted to force a war between Russia and America in order to help overthrow the current Russian government.

So no, the Russian military didn't have any invasion plans in place before the airport scene.

You also cannot create a military plan, prepare the troops, and execute the plan in under 24 hours on that scale. I guess that MW2's world forgot about the MW story about Russia being weakened by a civil war.

The battle occurs in DC and northern Virginia, Virginia is the 'Oorah' state. Largest naval base in the world and so many radar stations its not even funny. Heck, do you know how many times I hear the jets taking off at the local air base? They would've seen something, but I guess an invasion force is invisible.

To make it short, they would've been seen, they didn't have the supplies, and they didn't have the time.

I'm not sure why this is so complex. It's pretty 'textbook' for paratroop operations if they're going to be used. They get inserted as early as possible, seize airfields and land forces ASAP.

Especially considering the Russians wrote the book on such paratroop operations. I direct you to Czechoslovakia 1968 where they did exactly the same thing they're doing in MW2, except the airborne operations were smaller.

If we consider that the ultranationalists "won" the war then Russia would be rebuilding its military to old soviet levels anyway, they had five years to do it, with the ACS module as cover it is feasible that they could launch an operation like this, the Russian army is know for large scale airborne operations.

We're watching you... scum.

I guess I must be in the extreme minority in that I only play in single player mode - never online (I suck badly and have the reflexes of a geriatric). And you know what, I really enjoyed the MW storylines - I realise they are trite, pulp crap but you know what, it was good to suspend disbelief for a few hours and think 'well what if a faux-USSR invaded the US?'

Not only that but they made the player care about the characters. I want to find out what happens to Capt. Price and Soap, I want to delve further into the story. I'm really looking forward to it, even if it is more of the same.

Me too. But I really don't want to pay full price for it. Considering how rarely those games come up in the Steam sale I'll be lucky not to pay near that though. CoD BlOps was a big let down for me, I'm a bit discouraged by that. As a single-player kinda guy like me, what did you think of it?

Yeah, the story was pretty pump to be honest - I thought it was a bit muddled and a bit confused and required just a little too much suspension of disbelief.

Exactly. The storylines, while crummy, are still just plain fun.

The nice part is that at least this one gives non-MP junkies a gametype to play with friends. We get a kind of 'Survival' mode like World at War and Black Ops' Zombie mode--but with Russian loons instead of zombies.

This game needs a sequel.

Yes. Yes. Yes. YES. YES! YEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!

2142 is my 2nd fave BF game after bf2. As far as I'm concerned, we need more future based wargames. Jumping into walkers and hover-copters was the best part. I loved that game.

Also, I'm really f*ing tired of CoD. It's the same game over and over anymore. The MP is far too small-scale. Give me the tanks, planes and choppers of BF any day over CoD.

There, I've fixed your quote to reflect my feelings.

Battlefield's 'new games' can hardly be called Battlefield anymore. There's no encouragement for teamwork, there's no point of doing anything other than spamming vehicles.

There is encouragement for teamwork, +10 points for throwing down ammo or a med-kit, +20 if you do it for your squad. +50 to revive, +80 to revive a squad member. +20 to repair your team vehicle, +20 for a spot assist. Compare that to +50 for a kill, +100 for a vehicle kill, +30 for vehicle damage, and so on. Snipers get bonuses to their headshots if they're long range, across the map can get you +50 just for it being a headshot from that much of a distance.

I mean, I can't think of a better reason to get into a squad and to help your squad than bonus points. I ended up at 4,000+ points in one match just by healing alone.

The one difference between the older BF games and the newer ones is the addition of class customization, which they can change during the game, and the fact that snipers now have the mortar. Medics used to be the support role with a LMG, mortar, and healing kit and snipers had a remote laser targeter.
