Soaking models in simple green takes foreveer ive had them in there almost a day and its not doing too much to the tank or primer but the extra stuff is starting to come off. then i have another load or two after this batch as i still have all the long fangs a few marines if i recall and another tank after this group but this tank wont be as hard as it dosnt have matte finish on it to protect paint.

Did you read up on the how-to's of stripping? A good searching of dakka or google will net you the info you need.

But, how long it takes depends on (from my memory):

-What paint was used
-Metal or plastic miniature
-Is the simple green diluted or concentrate?
-Temperature (my guess would be that slightly higher temperatures, not boiling of course, would aid the process)
-Was the model varnished (if so, it's usually significantly harder to strip)

You'll want to leave the models to soak for at least three days. Be patient and you'll save yourself a LOT of effort with a toothbrush.

Looking forward to seeing the results!

Could be good, though red robes on very white marines, if not done properly, may end up looking candy-cane esque, so just be careful with that. If you paint the marines white, and the robes red (and gw's red is pretty thin, which is why I recc. vallejo over it, so you'll have to be patient and do several coats for the red) then wash it all with badab black, it might look quite good.

I like your ideas. One thing still irks me though...

PLEASE use proper punctuation in your posts. It makes them *so* much easier to read and doesn't take that much extra time to do.

If you want a simple scheme the best thing to do is to spray them all one colour over a black base coat..just lightly so the chaos black isn't completely concealed then give them a good wash with a dark colour then pick out some details..

i'll get one done if you like in step by step stages so you can see if you like..

e.g. if i was to do ultra marines i'd spray a middle to light blue over a black undercoat, then a liberal wash over the whole model of a dark blue.. then pick out the details with a bit of red white and gold

hope this helps, SoO

I will try but I've never been very good at grammer. I've tried throwing what I wanted to say in Word first but it doesn't pick up anything grammer wise just spelling.

Its an online one so I can use Spell check for most of it but most teachers don't mind the little things only the english teachers. I havent had my grammer related english class yet but this was ment as a blog for my work not everyone bashing my grammer.

Well we're not trying to bash you but it is hard to understand your posts sometimes. The point of these blogs is for you to post something and for us to give an opinion on it, right? It's hard for me to respond to what you're saying and give constructive criticism when I have to reread the post 2 or 3 times and decipher it. We are trying to help you, and be patient with the criticism, painting an army well takes time and perseverance. Every good painter has made countless mistakes, but they got where they were by trying again.

I do not see much inprovement, there are other methods of removing paint (fingernail paint remover works well) but it is hard to tell from the pictures, I can't make head or tails of this.

there wasnt much improvement...

I've tried fingernail paint remover before and even the acetone free ones started eating away at my models after 30mins.

yeh my dads camera stinks and I'm visiting him for now.

Did you scrub them after the soak? I find I need to scrub hard with a toothbrush when they are fresh out of the dip to get them stripped properly.

Keep at it. You will get there.

Yeh I scrubbed them all for like 10 mins each at this point I'm debating on forgetting the stripping and just painting them anyway as I don't care bout the detailas stormtroopers don't have detailed armour. Its not worth the effort to make them all perfect I'll never be an expert painter and I really dont care If there that good. I'll get as much paint off of them as I can after soaking them in simple green for 3 days then scrubbing them like crazy then paint them from there at least the paint on the models will not be as thick and those that whern't previously painted will just look better. I just enjoy taking time to paint every once in a while I dont care how good it is Im in it for the hobby not to win painting awards. And if the paint job ruins my conversions o well I just won't convert any more guys just make them wysiwyg and call it a day. I'll still post them up here after I repaint them(with my mom's camera going home in a bout a week) and see what comments I get for FUTURE paint jobs as stripping them is a pain.

Thought I'd throw my two cents in, if it helps cool, if not, at least I tried. I've found that plastic glue doesn't get affected by simple green as it actually melts the plastic you are trying to bond, and then as it dries they melt together. Super glue, which I assume you have been using, so correct me if I'm wrong, IS affected by simple green. It seems to just fall apart, so in future if you have plastic glue I would recommend using that. It is actually a lot cheaper than super glue also, and you can use less as the melting process does most of the work for you. Just be careful with it, as getting it somewhere you don't want it will cause that area to melt, and you will lose all detail there. Please don't be too offended by people on here, they are only trying to help. Even though it might not look like it they have taken the time to post and so obviously they want to help. I find if I want to paint a lot of marines fast, instead of doing one at a time and doing him roughly, I instead batch paint. Where I set aside say five guys, then a proceed to paint them all together, like undercoat all five, then go watch tv. Come back and do main colour on all five, then more tv, then when that's dry I do detailing, then washes and so on. It takes about the same time as painting 2 or 3 but at the end you have completed 5. Works well for me.

Surfing the Tervigon Wave...on a baby.

It's all about patience. The paints you were using were quite thick so it may take a little longer. There is some improvement - you can see where the paint has come away in some areas.

Because of how thick the initial coat was it's a case of patience and scrubbing. A lot of scrubbing.

If you do try to use nail polish remover - literally, watch it like a hawk. Dip it in, give a few moments and scrub. Nail Polish remover is not something you leave plastics to soak in.

We're here to help and nothing more than that.

Yeah, LA's works pretty well for me, but I still have had trouble with thick paint. In the process of soak-scrub-soak-scrub with a particularly difficult squad of guardsmen atm...
