I don't like a lot of the crap GW produces. On average, the subsidiaries and licensed producers make higher quality fluff than GW does. GW is a miniatures producing company, they don't focus on the fluff.

That's how it worked in Star Wars Battlefront II and people playing as Vader etc. Viable idea!
My thoughts exactly! (Soooo sad they never released Battlefront III ). Plus, I thought that worked way better than in LOTR: Conquest when to control an Ent or Troll, you walked up to it and hit the "enter" button, at which point your guy keeled over/flew away/became invisible and the ent/troll stood up under your control. Plus, allow the perk upgrade system kinda like what Space Marine has with selecting it beforehand, but also allow for the unlockable weapon upgrades like SW:BF2 and COD:MW2. Only issue is if they include bots, they'll have to really crank out the AI, since crap AI in a no-respawn squad match could really screw you over...

must say im enjoying kill team, finding it a little tough as its not my style of game, im more of a bayonetta devil may cry man, but any way i lie the idea of a IG game, especially if it was very high score orientated, for example, in one level you run at a gun line, taking cover when you can and throwing pot shots, getting more points the further you get and multipliers for kills teach time you die you respawn on something that changes due to what points you scored previously, when you complete the distance you get abit of button mashing quick time event before you get into the trench where it becomes a fast paced ODST style shooter
just the fantasies of a young english chap
only Wh game i was disappointed by is battle march, worst 15 quid ive ever spent

Lol. I can imagine every Gears player that goes for a wall in that scenario:
Player: *Sprinting*"Okay, almost to this low ditch. Once inside, I'll spin around and blast that guy to-"
AI Commisar: *POW* "You have been killed for your cowardice.
Player: "OMGWTF?!1!"
I think it'd be fun to play a game like this, where your gun is powered appropriately (aka, a flashlight), so if you don't team together and coordinate, the disparate shots will do nil damage to the beefier enemies

But then it goes from military shooter to a bastardized RTS, which won't work well.
And if you're gonna mention Commissars, please understand that they don't shoot people for thinking tactically and actually using cover.
They shoot people for refusing orders or running and hiding from the fighting.

Kanluwen wrote:But then it goes from military shooter to a bastardized RTS, which won't work well.
I wouldn't say RTS - all comes down to how you exert influence on your squad. There's been a number of FPS where you are able to give AI squadmates commands - Mass Effect or Republic Commando spring to mind. Just up the numbers a bit and you're there. Perhaps there's been something on a platoon-level already, though I admit that if so I have not played it.
Doesn't have to be a complex interface either, but a simple radial menu enabling you to tell your guys to "man that gun" or "take cover here" et cetera. Just a bit of spontaneous tactical thinking as icing on the shooter cake. I think that'd be fun!
It'd take a clever AI, though, so that you can still focus on the FPS part of the game and are not too busy yelling at troopers ... Giving commands should be more or less optional, I think, in a way that it gives you better chances in combat but that the soldiers could still act independently. That'd be the hard part in developing such a game.
Maybe sticking with a squad would still be better. Though ... I dunno, maybe if you keep it at 10 people? Small enough?

Mass Effect's "squadron command" system is absurdly in-depth and complex.
It's also why they're adding Kinect Voice support.
Republic Commando's, on the other hand, was absurdly simple.

Hum? I really liked it, but didn't perceive it as particularly complex - or are you referring to how the squad members were "interpreting" one's commands? If so, I agree, and I liked how fast it would work even in the heat of battle*. Loved those games...
(*: minus selecting special abilities - good thing the game could be paused for this)

Yeah, ME3 is getting Kinect voice support allowing for faster weapon swaps, orders for ability usage, target priority levels for your teammates, etc.
Supposedly they're also programming in recognition for hand signals.

A commissar in a 1st person guard shooter would be cool.
it would probably be more if you fell back rather then took cover he would shoot you.
Kinda like that one Call of Duty mission where if you move backwards too far the Commissars start shooting you.

Which kind of game do you think incarns / would incarn better the feeling, the atmosphere of the 40k universe?
- a turn based strategy game (maybe as close as possible to the tabletop? With personalizable units? Well, that could steal tabletop players, so I suppose it's a no...)
- a classic rt strategy, like the first DOW
- a skirmish, more tactical, strategy, like the second DOW
- a fps/tps like Fire Warrior (but a little better, if you please...), eventually with rpg elements (stats, skills and the like), as in the forthcoming Space Marine
- a turn based rpg
- a rt rpg (including fps elements)
-a mmporpg, like the forthcoming Dark Millennium
I'd personally like a combination of the above, something like a Mass Effect or Fallout RPG/Shooter drawing from the old Inquisitor rules, allowing you to form your acolite band, interact/fight with Xeno races, explore different worlds, investigate, act covertly or with a kicking doors down approach, calling in imperial forces to support you (those pesky heretics/xenos/demons! call down a lance strike/DW strike team/GK paladin squad or requisition an IG armored regiment!) and, above all, make moral decisions, as you slowly slide from your puritanical view into heresy, Chaos worming its way into your soul.
And, shall I remember, order Exterminatus on some poor world?
You could use, I don't know, some sort of morality meter, as well as a renown/favours counter, maybe divided in different factions, regulating your interactions with the various Ordos, your ability to requisition resources, exert your authority over imperial institutions and your stance with xenos, mutant or outcast communities, Rogue Traders and the like.

Anyone played the old Space Hulk game? It's years old now but I LOVED it!
I always wanted GW to release a big budget, fully supported online version of 40k and WHFB. You get a basic troop selection and could then purchase others online with microtransactions, and also when you buy your minis you could maybe get a scratchcard in the box with a code to unlock the same minis in the online game.

I really loved the Dawn of War series. I feel like it really translated the game into an FPS in a lot of fun ways; MEQs were pretty durable, but if you got plasmaguns/pistols you could cut them down much faster, heavy weapons/powerfists had to stand still for 1.5 seconds to actually use their abilities, troops with rapid fire guns fired faster/more accurately when standing still, etc.
Plus the monstrous creatures had awesome attack animations. I remember playing chaos against my eldar friend in DoW. In a furious battle I got whittled down to a lone Chaos Sorcerer. I decided to have him attack my friend's Avatar just to see what would happen. Either a glitch or normal business-as-usual, the Avatar casually swatted the sorcerer with the Wailing Doom as if the sorcerer was a golf ball, sending him hurtling halfway across the map into a river

Good series and all, little angry about space marine because the melta is a shotgun and the lascannon is a sniper, I mean c'mon, they already have actual snipers and shotguns, and I think plasma gun is rapid fire, thats off-setting, would be cooler if it was 1 slower shot but it burned through multiple targets behind it. Dark Crusade was epic, they need to make a DOW game like it again, base building and when hording guardsmen and orks was possible
