Unfortunately, that may not happen anytime soon as I don't have any plans to swing by the east coast in the near foreseeable future. However, if Mr. Sir_Prometheus should happen to swing by the Bay Area for some type of trip, then I'd be happy to oblige him with a game.
Until then, I guess we'll just have to see how far our respective builds can take us through the Ard Boyz tournaments.

You have to use every available tool to your advantage. In a rhino-rush, rhinos can do more than just transport your troops from point A to point B.
Now just have to figure out why I can make paladins and dreadknights fall back but not kroots and Tau infantry?!?

Well, I tend to think the current tank shock mechanic is pretty silly. I think the fact you can tank shock MCs at all is extra, crazy silly.

I used crowe this last weekend in a 5 game tourney and did fairly well with him.
As a joke i put him in his own Land raider and used a librarian to do summoning from across the board.
1st game: It was sad rolling. He assaulted a 10 man guard squad. Cleansing killed 2. whiffed his attacks. Lived through the combat. The guard failed Ld and he sweeping advanced them. My opponent shot 1 autocannon, hit with both shots, wounded both, and I failed both saves.
2nd game: Assaulted Hive Guard. I learned that he cannot fight against multi wound models that arn't monstrous or indie. Sat in CC with them for 6 rounds of combat (game ended).
3rd game: Stayed in a combat with dark reapers for 3 turns before the avatar killed him...failed the rolling on heroic sacrafice, but he was also the model alive until then.
4th game: He killed 2 incubi squads and took unholy amounts of firepower.
5th game: He put a wound on a Librarian, then he heroic sacrificed a Lysander.
I see that his problem is whether or not your opponent knows the extent of crowe's abilities. It is funny to watch a Swarmlord run away because they don't want to be heroic sacraficed.

Does Crowe need his own transport, or can he hitch a ride with another squad, then go off on his own once he disembarks?

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee. |

Not an IC, thus he needs his own transport.

Wow, you got great mileage out of Crowe over the course of five games.

Interesting Thread and glad I found it...
I run a crowe + Purifier + Dreadnought list as well and it does quite well. I also tend to run Crowe aggressively, taking the Rhino from one of my strike squads (I run 3 purifiers and 2 strike squads as I like warp quake) and running up with a unit or purifiers in support if possible or use him as a good counter assualt unit protected in his box.
generally, I would say that Crowe is not a "great" character in and of himself; HOWEVER, he has great synergy with the list, making purifiers troops and is a great counter to hordes and MEQ lists as well as an anti character character.
We are playing a tournament here in Shanghai and I wouldn't say I have had the "best" use of crowe; here is a breakdown:
- Game vs. Chaos - held up a unit of Chaos terminators for a few turns - unfortunately died but my one model kept his terminators tied up for a while while I focused on his objective taking troops and other threats
- Game vs. Blood Angels - Got into combat with Mephiston (a powerhouse in CC)...well, I wish i could say I pulled Mephiston into the warp, i wish i could say that he used his psychic hood, unfortunately, I rolled a F*ing 11 on the psychic test ----- but the threat was still there and my opponent had to think twice about how close they got...of course with psychic hood it makes it more difficult to get off, but still
- Game vs. Guard - Crowe took at a 30 man infantry blob, keeping their lascannons and plasma guns from shooting at me for 3 turns; assaulted another 30 man blob and held them up for a turn or two but unfortunately fell to them
Keep in mind for him holding things up - he is WS 8, meaning WS 3 are hitting him on 5's - i know it doesn't help against Marines / MEQs but it helps
- Game vs. Grey Knights - well, he knocked out all my transports and created a nasty kill zone so I had to hide him...the game ended up being a long range shootout...but my opponent was scared of crowe, and he shot at him before I hid him.
I think Crowe is great and like any character has his uses (and his weaknesses).
Personally, for sitting on an objective i would put a strike squad or something else that can shoot at range with a fair amount of power (e.g. 1-2 psycannons, autocanns, HB on a razorback, etc.) If you are threatening your opponents lines with crowe, your opponent will have to deal with him, taking fire from your units and directing it at him.
