I have some much love for this thread. I love Skaven, I read the whole fantasy rulebook so I could see if I'd enjoy playing them, though I didn't feel their codex did them justice (much like my beloved nids...). These guys look so awesome, I really want to make my own. I think the obliterators and the rat ogre look the best, though I'm going to have to say I love every single one. I just think rats are the coolest! I was wondering what process that you went though to make the guy on the mounts legs. I started making a space wolf mounted on a cold one and used biker legs, which I had to cut and pin to make them fit, though the final result looks a bit, 'meh'. Yours look much better and I'd love to know how you did it. It just seemed to pop into my head but this image of a giant sewage pipe display could make them into an amazing display piece. I was thinking of a 6"-9" high sewage pipe, and two more either side of the central one, implying that the models are standing in a large vertical pipe that has multiple ones coming off, like a storm well or something. I couldn't give you any advice on building it but I could try and sketch out the idea if your interested.

Much appreciated to all for the comments.
@Gitsplitta: just found the waagh Dakka thread and am looking foward to joing up.
@shoebox: the sewer pipe idea is great! I can definitely see the use of some water effects to really spice it up.
I used a set of legs from the plastic Space Marine Box. It is the set that has the round knee sections. I just took a hobby knife and cut a straight line straight down the middle of both sections where the legs meet the lower body. Then all i did was slightly rotated them foward, fiddle with them a little so that the feet were roughly at the same angle, and then re glued them.
I did have to chop the back end of the lower body off so I could fit it down in the saddle. I just put some of the small pouches that wrap around the waist on the belt area so it would cover it up. Im pretty sloppy at repositioning, I just happen to have enough small bits to cover it up!
Some other things I found usefull in this model was to build up the base a little and angle the cold one so it is kind of sloping downward. It gives it a much more "prowling" feel. Also Ive seen some SM on cold ones that have regular shoulder pads and a backpack. I left this off on purpose so that the rider would feel a little more proportionate to the mount. Also, adding gear and saddle bags to the sides help to bulk out the mount and make it seem like there is not a GIANT space marine riding a TINY pony.
Im glad you like it! It's encouraging to know people are reading the thread so thanks a bunch for the input.

@ Strombones: By back end of the lower body do you mean the square bit that is normally covered by the back pack? I thought the space marine did look a little to big for the mount, but I found that out after buying the all the bits and figured it would be a waste not to make them. I like the idea of bulking the mount out with bags and stuff, easy and effective, and I really like the smaller shoulder pads, did you make them or are they from the Tyranid gaunt sprue (the little extended carapace you get)? Also, how does the guy on the mounts back looking if he doesn't have a space marine back pack on ( wtf are those things anyway!?), does it look a little bare? I it does giving him a back pack could help and it would fit the scavenger theme you have going one. I may have to completely steal your idea because its so fething cool, I hope that is ok!
Maybe I could do a rival warband or something, but after I get my 2,000 warbiker orks done, which will be a very long time...

Yeah take the idea! I copy people on dakka all the time. I like the idea of making a joint project with someone on the other side of the ocean. It sounds like a perfect thread for dakka. Im guessing you read the fluff if you know about the rival cults?
By the back end I mean his ass (or arse as you would call it ) so it was small enough to fit into the curvature of the saddle.
As for the back I used one of the backs from a landspeeder pilot. So it wasnt made to have a backpack and I didnt have to cut anything.
The shoulder pads are some kroot carnivore bits i got from the bits box but ive got a few other ones too such as IG pads. Im sure termigaunt ones will work.
Ill take some more pics to show you .

2. Oblits!. One on the left is not finished.
3. Can someone say arachnarok as a defiler? I think it works pretty well with the fluff.
4. More heretics/operatives.
5.Painted CSM troops. I have a handfull more unpainted. The original silver guy from the failed rival cult got salvage into the aspiring champion. I think it works. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK!
1. I love that model, always wanted to do something with it, but never managed to find out how... But the angled base is the perfect idea! ! ! Awesome !
3. It would be really nice, but I think you should strap more "tech-y" things on, and at least add a Maw cannon (that you can model on top of the thorax, by the way), if possible all the weapons that you want to use with it... Flamethrowers / Reaper autocannon / Havoc Launcher?
4. Great again... It seems quite simple, yet looks awesome!
5. The paint doesn't look exactly like the other ones, but that helps set him apart from the squad, so it works for me. Also the pose is great !

I read though the fan made dex you posted and its awesome, far more interesting than the current Chaos dex, I really like the rules for Slaanesh and its units (which were really lacking in the last dex) and it looks like we could easily have rival clans. Open top rhinos with noise marines firing out and the awesome No Mercy! rule, yes please! Oh, and I did read your fluff and it was really awesome. I love how those big events are started off by something as small a little white lie. Also, I was thinking about this thread on the way to work today after reading a question and answer with Deadmau5 on reddit, and the most awesome (read: silly) idea popped into my head. Deadmau5 marines. Basically, bunch of the guys stumbled upon some crude disc... ahhh, screw the fluff, its only gona be terrible! Basically, I'll do a model wearing the Deadmau5 helmet for laughs and have the clan logo as a variant of the mau5 head design. Their guns will be blasting out Deadmau5 so loud that it will literally blow minds! EDIT: Also Ikit Claw is a perfect match for Huron Blackheart, check it out!

@yggs. Yeah I've been struggling with how to make the spider a little more "tech/futuristic" to fit into 40k. I think im going to put some guitar wire from the saddle to behind the spiders head to look like wiring going to its brain. Its going to have a mark of nurgle so I think the vomit cannon can just be assumed to come from its mouth. The ork big shoota (or what ever the hell that bit is ) will make a good "scavenged" autocannon, and Im going to trade a flamer for another dccw. I figure since this thing has fleet and Front AV 13 using it primarily for close combat makes the most sense. Anyway I could use some suggestions if you got any.
Also a few pics of my terrain. Its my COD board with a canal built up with foam.

Check out a tomb spyders head and you could model yours in a similar way. Adding armour plates to the front legs could be a good way of bulking up the armour and having a more heavily armoured cockpit could help imply AV13. Problem is that there isn't a lot of area at the front to add a great deal to, check out what people have done with looted Carnifexes for some inspiration.
A much more serious suggestion to my last one, you considered writing up some rules for your individual warband to go hand in hand with Dave's codex? The format is pretty simple, couple of bonuses and a 30 point upgrade for your HQ. If you wanted sneaky scavengers, you have your HQ confer Stealth to the guys around him or maybe D3+1 units get infiltrate? Not quite sure how you could work it out, but it could be cool if you could pick up the weapons of enemies you killed in close combat, looting their corpses sounds like a very Skaven thing to do. Something like you roll a dice and have a chance scavenging the a piece of equipment of the enemy you ran down, though you can't move in your next movement phase maybe? Having your flamers count as poisoned could be a cool way of showing they were Nurgle. Possible offer to upgrade bolter's to 4+ poison for 3-4 points. Maybe just one unit. Or maybe units within 6" of the HQ in an upgrade count their weapons as 4+ poison. So many possibilities...
I'm writing up some rules for some ratty themed CC units, like Feral Chaos Space Marines that are Chaos Marines that are more rat than human now, and have to be controlled by a beast master. I want to write in rat orges and rat swarms, as GW have models for them and there would be minimal conversions needed to make them look 40k, though haven't thought of any interesting rules for them yet.

More spider/defiler WIP pics.
Also, a fallen Dark angel that I've created to take a break from painting rotting flesh so much. Im thinking about turning some repaints into a small Fallen Dark angel squad to boost the Vermin Kind's numbers instead of the rival cult. I think I could make the fluff work. maybe a small group of Fallen that recently fell out of the warp and are hiding? Maybe they came after hearing rumors of Storm Dragons equipment that was never destroyed by the Imperium?
Anyway I've tried my best to give them as much heresy era equipment that I could find in the bitz box.
