Partly because I've been studying it, but I think it would also be good to see the consequences: No Communism in Russia means no Communism in China: There would be no Cold War, Chinese Civil War, Korean War or Vietnam War.

Or, failing that, I would go back 1000 years or so, place a meagre amount of money into a bank account, then return to the present time to find that I am now a billionaire due to interest.

1000 years ago? I think you would be upset with the fact your money wouldnt be there anymore. 100 years ago maybe, but youd need to find a bank that was not only around then, but still around today. But why go through so much trouble? Go back in time, and invest a bunch of money into Microsoft like I suggested. 500 bucks invested into them back then, gak youd be beyond stupid rich today with that

I would go back to 1979/80 and do whatever it takes to get a band together with the following lineup

Lead vocals: Bruce Dickinson
Lead guitars: Dave Mustaine, Kerry King
Bass guitar: Cliff Burton
Drums: Dave Lombardo.

I highly doubt that, since unions have been prolific since the Industrial Revolution(America's big one in the 1880's were the Knights of Labor, first established 1869.). Arguably much earlier, if you're the type who believes that guilds were the earliest form of the union.

No. Guilds were not really unions. They were more or less a Franchise.

I doubt there are historians who actually say guilds were unions. Likely they say guilds were a precursor to the union. The union and the guild are similar bodies that serve different kinds of people for different reasons. A guild serves craftsmen with the intent of ensuring a fair market (and controlling access to the craft) while unions serve laborers with the intent of protecting their interests against their employers. Similar organizations but not the same.

Sorry to build a quote tree here, but I felt I had to reply to this. Rockerbike's concept of "facts" being mutable based upon the percentage of people who agree with them is a relatively new phenomenon, in my opinion, which I like to call Wikithought. If enough people believe something, it's true! It's a remarkable way to think about things since even a moment's thought would reveal that there are some truths which are simply immune to how you feel about them, good bad or indifferent.

No matter how many people believe they can fly, if they jump off a bridge together, they will not be able to fly, and the universe does not care what you think about it.

I'd go back, gather the orignial Continental Congress, and bring them forward to see the BS that has become the US government. Let them investigate what went wrong, what went right, and so on. Send them back so they can fix a few things - clarify the meaning of 'right to bear arms,' write term limits in and otherwise generally enforce the idea that elected service is SERVICE, not a frickin' rice bowl, define corporations as separate from individuals and NOT protected by personal rights, that sort of thing.

Or maybe just write in 'These laws are intended to be interpreted reasonably by reasonable people; unreasonable people need not apply.'
