I'm back and forth. I mean, on the one hand, it's a giant killer robot with a purse-like cannon. And, on the other hand, it's a giant killer robot with a purse-like cannon.

I feel like this is a loosing battle.

Damiano may not be bumbling, but Rocinate is. Him and Fires of Salvation started a fight while Damiano and Kreoss were having a Parley, which has a tendency to ruin a good Parley.

Yes, ok, but he has a sword. Why can't he just cut it off?

I know I'm over thinking this, but it's always the little things that break suspension of disbelief.

Because he's trained to stab people with it.

How is this different from any other ridiculous thing in the genres we love?

Because it's something that's been done to him, yet there doesn't appear to be anything that's stopping him from reversing it. At any point he could just reach up and take it off. It just seems really weird. The rest of it's fine... but the muzzle is stupid!

Imagine for a second that it wasn't a muzzle, but was a silly hat instead:

Leader: Ha! Now you are wearing a silly hat!
Wolf: So?
Leader: It will stop the bio-luminescent fur on the top of your head giving our position away during stealth missions.
Wolf: I don't want to wear it. I look ridiculous. *takes off the hat*
Leader: Curses! I never expected him to just reach up and take it off! Foiled again!!!

Bear in mind Warp-wolves are men transformed so I'm sure they can understand the need for such things.

If they can understand the need, why can't they control their own howling?

They retain little of their former intelligence, though admittedly the Stalker more than most, hence its ability to wield a sword. I figure it's easier to train them not to remove the muzzle - a concious, defined act - than it is to train them to not howl - an urge that sneaks up on you and rushes out of control.

Pleasantly surprised at how well these turned out with only arm- and head-swaps and different paintjobs. Much improved over the giant rat-things of old.

@HBMC: We can go deep. The muzzle is there to keep him from "unconsciously" howling at the moon -- i.e., responding to beastial instinct. The human part of him that's in charge of higher functions (like the ability to manipulate the small buckles fastening the muzzle) is separate from the instinctual part. They potentially interfere with each other. The human part of him put on the muzzle; the beast part doesn't know how to take it off.

It's also adds a level of differentiating between model types.

H.B.M.C. wrote:Why is the Stalker wolf muzzled? It can't be to reduce how dangerous he is, 'cause they've given him a sword. That doesn't make sense.

I think there's a two-part answer to this:

First, I think they've been "inspired" by Rackham's Devourers (pics below)

Second, the reason the Devourers muzzled themselves was that they suffered from blood frenzy, similar to minotaurs in warhammer. Once they tasted blood they would started feeding voraciously, even in the middle of battle. This way they could finish the battle before removing the muzzles for dinner. IIRC they had pretty low Discipline (equivalent to Leadership in WH:FB).

The warpwolf fluff doesn't appear to support or contradict this, I figure PP just liked the aesthetic and copied it.

IIRC the "gimp" below was responsible for muzzling the others to enforce discipline. His mask is harder to remove because it's hard to practice what you preach.

I agree Mastiff, the new sculpts have even more common with Rackhams devourers than the old. The devourer minis are so cool that I like someone to carry their spirit on.

and it's not like Rackham can sue.

The supply does not get to make the demands.
