Given the fact the Imperium encompasses a million worlds I don't think having a mix of accents is a huge deal.

The guardsmen could have an Aussie accent for all I could care. They just happen to speak like that on X planet.

Wildly incorrect, as a few people have noted.

Marines will probably speak the Gothic-derived dialects and languages of their own homeworlds (Baalian; Nostraman, East Badabian, etc.) or even specific regions of their own homeworlds, and the rest of the Imperium almost universally speaks variances of Low Gothic. High Gothic is a rare and formal language - not just like Latin (which is readily available to learn on Earth) but incredibly uncommon outside the halls of the elite. It won't even feature on thousands and thousands of Imperial worlds lacking an Adeptus Terra "nobility" (as in, high-ranking Adepts, not actual aristocracy) or heavy Administratum presence.

It's essentially a holy lexicon, more than a usable language, and is treated as such.

I saw the trailer for this ages ago and thought it looked fantastic, I'm really happy there is a full project team moving forward with it now.

The only thing that disappointed me was the voice acting as others have said; I personally think it would almost be blasphemy to not have British accents on everyone, but I'm a little biased I suppose I wouldn't mind others thrown in for variety, but I think the narration and some of the main characters do need to have British accents... It just seems to "fit" the idea of 40k more IMHO

I don't know about that. because many diffrent chapters are based on diffrent things, maybe they have the accents to reflect there "origins". Example (but also wild speculation): maybe the black templars have a german accent to reflect their templar origins.

This is what i have been trying to say but failing to. I understand that certain chapters/legions have certain feels, as said earlier, black templars derived from A german look, but i cant see it not being in an english accent. Anything but just seems ridiculously tacky

because the English have started exploring space already?

I'd assume that people who explore space already may be the ones who rule space in the future.

Sure GW is based in England, but does that mean that the whole galaxy should speak like a tiny island from one planet?

Dr. Who is a British production. This movie is a British production (I assume). I am fine with the British accents. Since Russia is the only country putting people in space, perhaps have them all speak Russian?

Well as the only guys currently putting things into space are russians..... lets not get into the whole " should the voice actors be XYZ nationality"

As long as the acting is good I dont give a crap who plays the part as long as it dosnt sound like some cowboy ranger or Ken Block want to be like in Bad Company 2 voice overs.

Some one like David Hayter as a Marine would be awesome

Again, I will point out that English accents are used for speech in 40k. Take the Space Marine game for example. Even the *lowly* imperial guard speak in english.

Did Fulgrim Just Behead Ferrus?

The Netherlands

No real problem with the British accents. In American movies they tend to give "British" sounding accents to all sorts of fantasy or characters that are meant to sound historic. I remember once seeing this movie about how the Nazis decided to use concentration camps to kill the Jew, all those Nazis spoke as if they were upper class British citizens...

And don't get me started on Hollywood's attempts at a Russian accent, they hire some Polish or Romanians for those.

The X Files were also legendary, just using Canadians for everything. The French sounded Canadian, the Russians sounded American...heck even the Germans sounded American in that show!

As for High Gothic, here are some interested thoughts on that:

In Hollywood the Dutch speak German.

But please, no typecasting, that's bad: "Templars should have Germanic accents, Salamanders should have Caribbean accents etc." is rubbish.

Oh yeah, even though the Dutch accent is so much funnier! Hmm, maybe they should use Dutch voice actors to do this movie in English, that would be hilarious!

Regarding voice acting, it is commonly mentioned in many black library books that people from different races and indeed different chapters of space marines speak different languages and, thus, have different accents. Low Gothic is the imperial language and is supposed to be required learning material, so most people should know it in this film. Seeing the film done in low gothic would be interesting, but cost-productive.

BTW, I have been following this project (like a few in this thread) since well before GW's go-ahead.

But, back to accents: all Grey Knights should use the same accent, Inquisitors should have varying accents, as do their henchmen, since this branch will come from different walks of life. Each guard regiment should have the same accent unless from a world of a variety of walks of life.

I, too, am worried about the voice acting of this film. As far as I know it's still only a 15 minute film, but should be well worth it. (Unless that has changed.)

That is my only worry though. I am very much looking foward to seeing this done.
