Not awesome? let's see... they nearly killed an entire friendly chapter, they decimated civilian centers to draw out the Lamenters, they took the Mantis Warriors homeworld, then their recruits, then made them all fight to the death, then took the recruits that lived. Do I really need to continue? The Charcharadons are badass, but have zero regard or respect for anyone or anything other than themselves and their survival.

I like the Raptors. Stealthy and stuff.

I'm with McNinja. It's cool waging war on your opponents. Slaughtering civilians for your own purposes, not so much.

Carcharodons, Salamanders, and Astral Claws are winning so far. No one likes the Tiger claws?

That's what makes 'em awesome. To be any sort of badass, you'd have to be a sociopath. To put it simply, moar badass=moar sociopath. And the Space Sharks are as badass as their name.

My Vote is for Astral Claws, If I was put in their position I would of made a stand as well.. Having reinforcements pulled at 2 different times in a critical campaign to make the Maestrom safe then pretty much given the finger when they ask for replacements.

Granted Lugft might of gone too far but at what part do you stop playing the puppet and think for yourself.

Yes they did, and it was an extremely cool section of the book!
That is how you can imagine marines being used in a real conflict, outside of the context of the game and current game mechanics.
