I have little interest in acting tough on the internet.
Why walk with a knife in America anyway?! Your in the gak if you pull it on some fether and he whips a piece out!
We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Carrying a knife in combat is a good way to end up with a knife in your body, I've always figured roughly the same concept apllies to the civilian world. Plus my effective range with a knife is limited by my arms which are kind of stubby. I have no interest in being stabbed, being tough on the Internet is just a side benefit.

To be honest, I've only used it for peeling oranges/opening boxes/other mundanities. I mean, I overstated the blade, its maybe 2-1/2 inches long? Cheap stainless steel. Not exactly a Fairbairn-Sikes, or KA-BAR, or something crazy.
Nobody's trying to act tough. Self-defense and martial arts are commonplace in the modern world, and I simply wanted to discuss with people. That's all.
Personally I much prefer to be weaponless in a situation that may necessitate self defence, you can train and learn how to defend or diffuse a confrontation with someone and at the same time be ready for what may eventuate, especially if attacked by a blade, I put more trust in myself bare handed than i would ever have if i was carrying a knife! and then you also know that wherever you are and whatever you are doing you can still protect those around you without aid. mind you i'm not bruce lee and as I mentioned earlier i'm still very much learning and haven't been in a situation where i have had to protect myself for a very long time so I can't say with certainty that i would be even thinking right when confronted again, honestly distance and a clear head are the best options in my book, if they can't reach you they can't strike you.... simple be where they're not

looks at mere 'guns'. That's not a self defense weapon. Now THIS is a self defense weapon....
The Mk19 belt fed grenade launcher. Don't leave home without it. j/k
On a more serious note, escalation is a bitch, and I carry a gun with me whenever possible. Then again, I'm in a third world nation that's supposedly an ally of the US. Sadly, this is a step up from ytown, which, though no longer on the list of the US most dangerous cities, briefly eclipsed St Louis and NY combined for per capita murders during my youth, and inspired the term 'Youngstown tune-up' as a synonym for 'car bomb'. During this period, my father used an antique howitzer (24lber pointed down the main hallway of the house) as a home defense weapon. Fortunately, he only ever had to fire it once.

My preferred tactic would be a karate chop to the side of the neck. I haven't tried it out yet, but it supposedly makes people pass out. I don't know if anyone could verify that?

If you hit the right pressure point, you could do it, but it's not a sure fire thing, and, frankly, if you're in a self defense situation, you want to be fething sure. I don't use anything smaller then a .45 for that reason.

I'd never carry anything if I didn't know what to do with them.
While thats a reasonable idea, how do you know what they can do?
While 99% of the people who start fights are generally 1 hit wonders, there is still that 1% that can handle themselves pretty damn well.
While onto the martial arts question, ive been doing muay thai for 7 or so years now, but thats mainly a hobby and an easy keep-fit thing
I myself carry a small Boker knife for utility use only. For self defense its a G26 9mm loaded with Hornady Critical Defense. I have had my concealed permit for 3 years and have never had to use the weapon yet.....and hopefully will never have to.

It does, if done properly. At the right angle, a chop to the jugular/carotid can force blood through the vessel, simulating raised bloodpressure and causing the victim to pass out. It's a fairly advanced technique, though. I've never actually done it myself.

That's the sub-compact variant, correct?
Glocks are wonderful little guns. Ugly and blocky, but they never, ever stop.

I carried a 2" knife for a year or two but now I don't bother, it's easier to just avoid the rough parts of Swindon at night. Also I figured if people carry knives for protection then the fight is far more likely to escalate, if you don't carry a knife then perhaps others will come to similar conclusion and also not carry a knife.

Ive heard that before. Would like to see it done.

I, personally, walk with a folding knife, (A three inch framelock with a clip-point and a false back edge), a collapsing baton, and belts in American Kempo and Koga Ryu Ninjutsu.
Wait, so you carry around your belts in American Kempo and Koga Ryu Ninjutsu?

I have your escalation right here.
I'm not a physically aggressive person any more, I spent years trying to push that out of my system.
I don't want to fight any more. If someone tries to do something to me, I want to make them not want to.
Loudly.
Call it "internet tough girl" or something, but meh, I don't want to have to rely on physical strength and adrenaline to have to defend myself IF something happens (I live in a safe city, so it's not likely to begin with, but still).
For Fraz, who will inevitably ask, I'm still in the process of saving up money for my own, but I do go on the range with my father and shoot occasionally. I'm quite comfortable with a gun in my hand and know how to clean, load, and properly handle them. So I'm ready, whenever I do get the money for my own, and have been looking at the requirements for my CCW license. Though if I can get a diamondback, that would also be good. A pity colt decided to stop producing them.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Even though you called me an Internet tough guy......I wont call you an Internet tough girl....lol. Glad to see that you carry. Even a safe city has its surprises so why not be prepared for the "Just in case". Props to you and that Colt.
