Note what I said: perfect ROMANCE NOVEL hero. They are almost all tall and broad shouldered(aka, the masculine V shape). Also, while I love Shortpacked, the only girls I know that actually like that shape on men in real life are anime fans, and even then it's only about half of them. Lots of women do like broader shouldered men as sexual objects.

Bakerofish wrote:Vlad is Fabio for some reason that hurts in a psychological level LOL! Also, as a qualification to my last one, I hang out with a LOT of single females thanks to my wife, so I get to actually see the types of guys they reject and accept as potential mates/boyfriends/etc. and those they accept tend to be more like Vlabio and less like what women say they find attractive with false equivalence. I have a feeling it's a subconscious thing.

Yeah, that shortpacked comic isn't really on track. Now here I am going to be sexist, but only a little, because most of it is fact: women tend to say things that are in line with their current "cultural meta", so if they like animes, as Platuan suggested, they will say they like skinny, feminine guys with big eyes. They'll still do something else: they pick the big strong guy, especially when their hormones are up. Which probably kind of sucks for the skinnier people.
|
"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)
And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions. |

Everyone has a preference. You don't see an outcry over Spiderman just because he's a nerd. Some girls like nerds. It doesn't help that he's very well-muscled. Even if an attracted-to-Spiderman girl has no particular attraction to muscles, it's much better than flab.
The girl who refused to play non-'sexy' models is slightly weird, but acceptable, even if it's weird. It'd be different if you saw your opponents Sisters of Battle army, with their armour painted flesh-colours and nipples painted on their breastplates, all-Sanguinary Guard Space Marines, said opponent drooling all over them as he or she set them up...
It'd be really weird.

again im just going by what they say they want. if what they want is different from what they say thats a different problem and frankly a problem that has caused WARS.
like im saying PP needs to create a Bishonen character to make it ultimately fair and balanced
though the new Circle warlock is a pretty-boy...

I'd say Stryker fits the Bishounen. He's actually relatively slender(it's easier to see on the action figure, but his hips and shoulders aren't much different in width, giving him a straight silhouette as opposed to the masculine V) and not very muscular(guy's got spaghetti arms and legs!). He even has the Impractically Large Sword, Anime Hair, and sarcastic "devil may care" attitude(look at his exchange with Caine in Superiority) that gives way to bad-ass ferocity in battle. The only thing missing is the larger eyes. Plus the fact that he's a ginger doesn't help.

Stryker has a chiseled look so hes disqualified from the bishie roster
bishonen after all means "pretty-boy"- think androgynous or very soft features
Im also guessing that Goreshade was a bishie before he got cryxified XD

These articles come up all the time. It's a good way to generate buzz, because a few things can't be argued:
1) Companies market models of "sexy" women because they sell.
2) Not everybody that buys a "Sexy" female mini is male.
3) Far more female minis have impractical outfits compared to male.
4) Some women are offended by #3. Some are vocal. Most, assumedly, are not.
5) there is no way to tell if #4 has anything to do with how many women play the game.
So, every year or so, somebody comes down off the mountain and delivers the same sermon. "Why do you think women don't play this game? It's nothing but repressed man children playing with hyper sexualized figures of women!"
And we go through the usual defenses of "but the women are strong and powerful," and "but some women like sexy femal models" and "there are plenty of non-sexy female models out there."
None of this is the point. The point is that sometimes, some people need to stir the pot.
Women dont' do minis war games because it's a boys club. We don't particularly want girls around, they're not terribly interested, and so like poker nights, fantasy football leagues, and golf outings the world around minis gaming is 99% male. Gamers are ok with it, spouses and girlfriends are ok with it, and even geeky women are pretty ok with it.

Well, yeah. We kinda didn't address that part. Mostly because it's pretty stupid.
I'm not a Metroid fan because I'm a girl and Metroid has a strong female character. Nor am I a Metroid fan because I am male and Samus is attractive. I am a Metroid fan because Metroid is freaking awesome. Ditto for Halo, except the other way around.

Yes, yes you are!! I'm going to call the Sexism Police on you. O.O
I often play female characters in things that allow it, namely RPGs where you can make your own character. I sometimes play men. *shrug* It's nothing to do with attraction.
Although I do admit, I hate women a good deal less than I hate men. Not to say that they're incapable of being evil. They're still human, after all.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm quite strongly a feminist. Women should be allowed to do whatever they want, and setting arbitrary gender restrictions is harmful.
That said, I have zero interest in increasing female participation in minis gaming. I won't stop it. I wont' shun female newbs, or hit on them, or otherwise discourage them. I simply don't see a niche leisure pursuit being nearly exclusively male to be in any way a problem.
I feel bad for any women that feel like they want to play, but don't want to play exclusievly with male gamers. I do. But that's who plays.
I work in an office that's mostly women, with more women in managment above me than men. I have a girlfriend and a mother. I spend a lot of my life accomodating for the needs and comfrot of women. I'm glad to do that, because that's what life is. But I like not having to worry from time to time.

Again, you are exactly right in your thinking. It's not like a business, where in order to prove that you are equal rights you must employ a set percentage of each demographic. For personal things; I have no black friends. No-one in my life is black. I'm not specifically seeking (or for that matter, avoiding) black people in order to befriend and thus balance my social equality, am I? It's the same for other social groups, such as a wargaming club.

Precisely. Also, I remembered something that utterly invalidates the "Bishie Batman" thing.
George Clooney was Batman once. I hear he's attractive.
It was decidedly not awesome.

But statistically, 22% of women are lesbians. Therefore, RAW says that 88 of them will say either. Then factor in that even straight women aren't one-track-minded sex machines. So you have possibly 30-50 of them saying they want to "F..." Brad Pitt, and then your atypical bunch who really have the hots for the Tobster.
Really though, when I said Spiderman, I mean in the comics. Not Toby Maguire. Ew.
