When you are an adult it's called 'harassment' and can also add up to criminal offences particularly with racial or sexual connotations.

So why are people so keen to treat kids differently again? You don't ignore this gak and you don't reward the bully by effectively blaming the victim or treating it as something kids just have to endure.

What if it occurs outside the the school? You immediately run into constitutional protections at that point.

Often, kids who are 'too smart' are the ones being picked on. Do something. If some jock eats a burger covered in mercury.... whoops, accidents happen, and it's hard to bully someone from the hospital.

You are making it too easy. Bullying doesn't stop at school. I don't want to say I've bullied people, at least after high school (not that I don't regret it), but a certain aggressiveness tends to be rewarded in most environments. That whole bullying mentality is actually pretty useful regarding functionality after school.

Just kick them around. Even if you lose, no one suspects the smart kid. I took advantage of that many, many times.

It isn't a matter of quality, its a matter of knowing you can use brute force, physical or intellectual, to get what you want or need. And, probably more importantly, a willingness to do what is necessary to achieve your goals.

And believing your better than everyone isn't very useful, it makes you sloppy.
