No good stories for me, but during a **very** large non-apoc battle with myself and my brother against my other brother and father we had a glorious moment.
Massive armies on a massive board, which comprised of no less than 4 Districts of a imperial city.
There was a destroyed section of the Armory District in a city in the Northwest corner of the board which comprised of cratered out walls and some criss-crossing razor wire lines that was heavy guarded by my brothers vast 'evil' Imperial Guard forces comprising of entrenched infantry and patrolled by many sentinels. My Scout based Marines had exhausted all 2,000 pts minus a brave Telion and his trusty missile launcher toting Scout. In a fit of rage that he couldn't seem to finish off these two bastards, as they hunkered down in a wrecked building, he fired his Manticore, which then promtly rained death down along his entire flank and wiped out 90% of the forces guarding the left side, just as my other brothers armored convoy of marines rolled into the now smoldering Armory District of the city. We took the District after a vicious fight with Ogryn....Well, at least until my fathers "Sons of Ragnarok" arrived.

Scattered with my Master of Ordnance and the arrow point backwards toward my own line and I rolled 6,6,6 for the distance. So with no line of sight for the MoO it falls right on top of my Chimera and I Roll a 6 for pen and then another 6 so boom goes the Chimera.
That was about the only kill my MoO did during a 4match tournament.

Sure.
Back in RT and 2nd edition, it was legal to shoot into combat. You just randomized hits against both sides. As I was a Space Ork player, with lots of bodies to spare, I would often charge a unit into combat and then gleefully fire everything I could into the melee. The result usually came out in my favor.
I had a friend who played Tyranids in 2nd edition. The barbed strangler back then was a very nasty weapon with a big blast radius. The down side is that it had a low strength and armour penetration modifier and you had to actually cause a wound on a model for the blast radius with the bigger attack strength to go off. You can see were this is going, right? Yup. he would charge a low toughness/armour unit like gaunts or gargoyles into contact and then shoot the strangler into melee hoping to nail one of his own models!
As for accidently killing your own stuff, recall I played Orks using the RT era Ork books. The card based malfunction mechanism meant that my more deadly weapons were often a bigger danger to me than the enemy. Finally, back then Ork battlewagons had no set transport capacity. They were open topped and whatevr models you could fit in or on the vehivle could be transported. The down side is that when you moved the wagon any model that actually fell off did so in the game too and suffered a wound. So I've lost more than my fair share of Orks that way too!

Not really *killing* my own model, but it's too funny not to share.
In the last few days of 5th ed I took a Death Company Dreadnought, which deployed directly opposite a number of choice Eldar foot units, without much in the way of anti-tank. Easy pickings, you'd think...
Well, for the first two turns I ran him straight forward (would have done even without Rage) and also opted to Run to get him in a bit sooner. Come turn 2 I run into some dodgy terrain which puts me in assault range. Assault phase comes, I roll the terrain again... and roll a 1. Immobilized!
The worst part was, he was facing directly forward and the Eldar hadn't moved, so he was pretty close to their board edge. Come their turn, they simply sidestepped out of the firing arc and left him alone for the rest of the game. Didn't even put him out of his misery.
I envisaged it as the Dread running full pelt as hard as he could, and just before closing the gap, slipping on some muddy patch, falling on his backside, breaking something vital and spending the rest of the battle just sitting there, sulking...

Forgive me, but until just now I've never laughed out loud to anything I've read on any forum. Full on brilliant.
Probably not as hard as we laughed.
You think thats bad? I've killed my own Mephiston with a Perils of the Warp, right when he charged into combat. Automatically Appended Next Post: Dheneb wrote:I haven't, but I don't think I've ever used something that scatters. My friends, on the other hand... Kharn has decapitated Ahriman on one occasion, and one guy took out his ally's LR with a basilisk (he had it coming though, he had it behind a fence that was knee-high and claiming a cover save).
I once saw a game where Abaddon and Kharn charged into a unit. Abaddon hurt himself with his Daemonweapon and then Kharn finished him off.

I've killed more of my own models with Gets Hot rolls than I've ever suffered from enemy Plasma Guns. But then, I use a LOT of plasma.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |
