Gotta say I'm not a fan of the new look. If it was some kind of undersuit that the armour attaches to then fair enough, but as is it just doesn't have that bulky, bulletproof, walking tank feel of the original.

I'm also in the 'doesn't need a remake' camp. Please, hollywood, for the love of (insert prefered deity) leave well alone.

Edit: cant spell for s**t.

No - I thought the second one was alright - but the third one was definitely GAK - that's why I've never bought Robocop on DVD as I've only ever seen it as a box set of three and I wouldn't want the third one.

Agreed - 3 is pretty much a gakfest. It had some good ideas, like the cyber-ninjas, and a few moments that made me chuckle, but other than that, yeah gak.

Nope, I liked the 2nd one as well. The movies after that though, were total ass

I looks nice, but I am getting a sense of deja vu here.

Spoiler:

Iron Man and Judge Dredd had a love (hate?) child.

It appears like it will give the actor, and stuntmen, the ability to move more freely then other suits in the past. Prop/FX has gotten better about making cool looking suits (Batman, Iron Man) that also don't completely screw the people inside over.

It occurs to me, I haven' seen the new ED-209 posted here yet. You guys have seen it, right? It's been up for a while here.

Lame.

Ed looks like a reject from the most recent transformers series. Not chunky enough, and too jagged for the sake of being jagged.

I'm not excited by that pic of ED. The motorcycle is a little light, too. I'm starting to agree more and more with the Deus-Ex-style criticisms from earlier in the thread.

Sorry for being a party pooper but ... eugh. So the new movie will be Cyborg Batman vs Cylon-209?

All I could think of when I first saw the pic of Murphy's new suit was:

"I didn't ask for this."

Apparently the bean counters have given the director all kinds of stress with pushing him to put random gak in his movie, too. All in all, I'm in full pessimism mode on this one, and convinced it will only further serve to solidify my bias against all kinds of reimaginations. I probably respect the originals too much to view these remakes with a neutral eye, but I suppose that a younger generation will be more open and would even prefer it to the old movies, so in a way I can understand the makers. Doesn't make me feel any less sad tho.

Also, lol @ spoilers here:

On a sidenote, I guess I must be the only one in this thread who liked all three of the old Robocop movies?
Yep, it is true that the "man turns into machine" part from R1 becomes less significant in the sequels, but I think that was unavoidable. The sequels appealed to me in that they retained their OTT social/corporate criticism and the black humour, as well as the cool "shadowrun'esque" designs. For me, it simply was never "just" about the "man turns into machine" bit alone, not even in R1.

So they're going to bust out the jump pack in the 1st movie already?

Fether can't shoot a kid in that suit surely?

The more I see of the new look the more I don't not like it.

It will be interesting how they portray OCP.

"I didn't ask for this" will certainly be a giant meme surrounding the release of this film.

Can we even still call it OCP after they redesigned the corporation's name, too?

Yeah, they seem to just be OmniCorp now.

There goes the potential for Oppressive Capitalist Pigs graffiti.

I'm still thinking whether the new name was due to licensing issues or if this too was intentional - possibly because it's "more catchy" or whatever...

Indeed.
