I would like that beholder a lot more if it were looking down its.. er... metaphorical nose at the impetuous trespassing humanoids.

I dunno. I think the quality is on par, personally. The pose is a bit odd, which is making the waist area look weird.

These seem to be a bit lower quality sculpt-wise:

Also: What are they? Are they from a campaign setting? I totally don't recognize them, nor do they particularly evoke the standard D&D archetypes.

The ogre does look nice but I wish he wasn't leaning back so much in a "whoa" striking pose. If the belly/torso is a separate piece from the hips/legs, a simple switch might be possible. I'm interested in that fig for a shadowrun player character (Troll mage!) but I'd need to see that box parts/contents before buying.

That one is nice indeed. I figured I was done getting D&D models with my obsession with the prepainted minis for years but I may pick up that one as well.

Same reason I would by Empress modern soldiers rather than use army men, or why people by Luxury cars, because there is a difference in quality.

Because it's limited edition.
You HAVE to have limited edition models.
You MUST buy them.
You are getting sleepy. Very sleepy.

1.) These and all prepainted D&D miniatures are not available anymore (except used on ebay).
2.) GF9 miniatures have a slightly larger scale (fitting e.g. Warhammer), more details and you can paint them to a better standard.

That's one malnourished Umber Hulk.

Overall, the range looks nice and is affordably priced... in the US. Europe apparently pays a 33% tax on top of increased shipping rates. UK has it even worse. I was considering buying a handful of sets at American prices, but European? No way.
