Maybe I should have made this a poll.
I may just have it result in an honorable duel. It seems like a nice middle ground between what people want but what they expect to happen at the same time

Well, if their Roman influence comes into play, it's possible a triumvirate could be formed.

Agemman actually seems like a much more level-headed guy, probably the wiser choice. Sicarius is a huge glory hound

Sicarius is just that damn good though. Makes what appear to be stupid decisions that if they go wrong will destroy his company. Gets away with it everytime. 'Just as planned' comes into effect - turns out he knew all along what the enemys disposition was and where there were, it was just no-one else was good enough to work it out. Do you go for lucky or competant in a commander? It makes him a good rival for Agemman. Agemman is seen as loyal, serious and ridiculously good at what he does. Sicarius keeps up with him on victories by what appears to be winging it I like it as it shows different companies of the Ultramarines fight in different ways - rather than just using the Codex flow chart.

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives. |

Sicarius is too much of a glory hound. He'd make a great captain of the 1st until he mellows out but right now he's too obsessed with the glory rather than his duty.

I dislike Sicarius so much that I refused to buy the model due to his personality, then when my friend gave me his, I tucked it away into one of my storage cases because he doesn't deserve a paint job by me, or to be in my display case. I mean, I thought I was an arrogant jerk (I still do, just not as bad as Sicarius).

Courageous Space Marine Captain

Funny, I never got the impression of vainglory or arrogance from the Codex entry, although I have not read any novels with him in them to confirm. My impression is just, like Kaldor Draigo's rise to power, he is rediculously good at being a Space Marine. He is more intelligent than most, able to read a battle lie words on a page and does it better than everyone else can. And is home by tea time.
To me, that's compentance. Sure, he has lucky on his side but every leader has had luck on his side- that he survived so far, that his superiors picked up on his abilities and that he has such a skill.
That said, Agemman is experianced, respected and as Captain of the First, more than compentent. Basically Calgar's right hand man.
If I were a head Ultramarine I woild want my commander to get the job done first time and done well, both of which, both can do well.
in the end, it would go to poll between
Captains of the 3rd-10th Companies
Master of the Forge
Varro Tiguris
Ortan Cassius
The oldest Dreadnoughts
The Honour Guard
Sergeant Chronos as Spear of Macragge
Possibly Torias Telion as he is highly respected
If that resulted in a tie then it would probably go out to the companies and the council from above make a decision based on the testamonies.
That said, with Agemman commanding the Veterans, who have much more sway than standard marines and scout, h.e is likely to win.

I wouldn't put it past that wily Calgar to put forth someone like Uriel Ventris. Calgar is canny enough to realize that the M'Kar/Honsou incursions were as damaging as they were because of both complacency and stagnation in the Ultramarines' tactics. I can see him putting forward someone who is unconventional, just to shake things up a bit. Severus and Cato are solid contenders and would probably be more than a little pissed at this turn of events, but Tigurius would back Uriel up and they would just have to deal.
Either one would be a terrible step for the Ultramarines, particularly Cato Sicarius. That guy is a hair away from being Eidolon.

Read books with Sicarius, you'll realize how overbearing and dislikable he is. Everything is "Me, me, me, I, I, I did this with less than, more than, faster than blah, blah, blah." Codex blurbs contain no dimensions of his character or personality like books with dialogue do.
