Yes they can be used in 40k.

Show them the box and point to where it says 40k, and ask if they see the word apocalypse stamped under it. When they say no, hit them with the box and tell them to deal with it

Also the gw site says the rules for using it in 40k are in the box.

If you get the strongpoint, please pm me a copy of the rules

I may have to keep it in my box just to be safe, if I get one no worries, I'm leaning more towards vengance platform but now I have to drive down to town to get it, sort of a waste of gas to go spend money without already being down there. Maybe one of each, if I remember correctly I can get two fortificatgions in a game

Just 1 for under 2k games. over 2k you get 2 fortification spots. But the vengeance weapons battery lets you buy 2 and field them as 1 fortification FOC spot.

Psssst *whispers* I wouldn't mind a PM'd copy of those rules as well.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

This, so much this.

My boyz also have a krump-on for mass LoS blocking by putting that stuff in the centre of the board.

There is hope for this game yet.

So if the Firestorm is also a bunker, what are you putting in it?

Vengeance BC's for Orks all the way!!! Gold!

They are better and way cheaper with better AV then the closest Ork equivalent: Boom Gun on Looted Wagon.

Any of the weapons would work for Orks with our awesome BS o' 2.

Don't need a bunker and Lootas can take care of any fliers.

I see one mistep with the Firestorm Redoubt. The rules say Firepoints: As per model. And the bunker just has 1 massive slit. So we are to believe that only 2 men can fire out of it. If your lucky your opponent will give you a fire point for each facing since it looks like this \___/

I need to return some video tapes.

The rulebook has something to say on the matter as well:

Let's hope so, if not something like a Tac Squad or Infantry squad would work, since they have fewer high value guns.

Didn't 5th Edition have a rule stating that you could have X models fire depending on how long the opening was? I don't see that in the new rulebook, so I suspect someone forgot that detail when they designed the redoubt.

Right above where it says 2 models per fire point is a clause, unless otherwise agreed upon.

so start by asking for 10 firepoints because it's a huge window.
don't accept less than 3, 1 per facing.

If you're playing marines with no dev squad... you can have 10 firepoints. If you're playing orks with 3 squads of loota's, it's 1 FP. Sorry m8. haha

Are people staying with a Quad Gun ADL or moving to the Firestorm for AA?

I played a 2K game where we were testing out the new fortifications.
I think I wouldn't put anyone inside the firestorm.
Poor guys in the bunker... that fireslit is soo big.
Page 94: If a unit assaults a build, any of its models that are within 2" of at least one Fire Point can each throw one grenade inside the building.
Does D6 (blast) or D3 (no blast) hits.
I rolled up like this:
http://blog.antoniovalente.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/dirty_dozen.jpg
And stuffed it full of grenades and gasoline.
Why yes, I do buy krak for my platoons.
Looks like that's (rolls bucket of dice) 41 S6 AP4 hits.
So 2 guys can shoot out, but ~30 guys can toss grenades in; Brilliant rules GW.
It's a decent fortification, it was just the Fire Point that is a stupid rule.

I ran 4 Vengeance, 2 battle cannons and 2 punishers. I liked the mix.
I would fire the Punisher to clear chaff from the battle cannon.

My take on them all is this:
If you're going mech, take Vengeance. A bit more AV14 is good, and it's good cover for tanks to peek around.
If you're running infantry, take Aegis Defense Line.
If you're facing an airforce, take Firestorm. It's more expensive than the defense line, and you're most likely better off leaving it empty and just let the guys auto fire. And use it to hide your barrage units.

I am going to give the Firestorm a try with my jump pack blood angles. It's big enough to block line of sight mid-field, and unlike the fortress, you can't capture and man the guns.

Hi guys, sorry for bumping a slightly old topic,
I know this might be a daft question to some of you, I play Necrons, havn't had much experience against bulks of flyers.

But am having a game against a Dark Eldar force with a 3 flyer formation of Razorwings...
Would it be good to get a Firestorm to counter the 3 flyers? Or would it be better to use Annihilation barges as AA instead?
What would give a better potential for taking a flyer down?
He will also be using Vampires (I think they are called) and those flying winged people that glance on 2s and pen on 6s...

Thanks

Ive played against the firestorm redoubt and the vengeance batteries with the battle cannons and they are both pretty solid. The redoubt can hide thunderfire cannons behind it easily so that should be enough for some people.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!
