I'd like some comment too if the judges have time for it.
It would be very helpful to know what my strong and weak points are.

If you have some screenshot i'd really like to see that 69th Srsface. ^^

Minus you painted your balls off. Everyone agrees. I cant really say anything, besides maybe stylistic choices?? I guess i "couldve" used maybe more contrast in the skin?? i mean...i guess?? You paint great. I thought the base was a little strange but i know its for your board so i get it. Weve had d this talk lol..Though i have a question....upon looking closer at your mini, the purple cloth....did you use a satin or gloss finish on it? Upon analyzing it, and if it were me, i think i would have painted starker highlights instead of, what appears to be, light(?) doing some of the work...Not that no one way is better or worse, obviously youre achieving great results, im just curious? And we'll see too because im painting the damn thing here in a few anyways..

@Bebop: Thanks for taking the time for a great, detailed and insightful feedback.

It was an awesome learning experience - or the start of one, to say the least - that I will carry on.

Cheers, and I'll be waiting for the next round!

Edit: As I said somewhere else, after some other great C&C received, thinning and layering are definitely on the agenda. Learning to get decent photos, and improving my lightning are too. Will be practising while I wait!

Gits : No prob. It said with a grain of salt. I understand everyone has a distinctive style and nothing is more important to the hobby than that. Layering is not at all a subpar approach to painting, only in terms of the competition does it have any bearing I love all your work

No apology necessary bebop, I'm not the least bit offended. I did not use the fantastic blending techniques that the others did... especially since I knew I could not possibly compete with them in those areas. Instead I went another direction & opted to try and get points in areas that I thought might get overlooked by others. All your criticisms were perfectly valid, no worries.

Thanks for taking the time to write up those comments bebop! Definitely some good pointers in there and I'll take any feedback I can get about osl as I've just started playing around with osl techniques. Honestly, it wasn't until I saw Nerdfest's entry that I even considered adding in osl on a typical guardsman. Couldn't pass up a chance to add in some extra colors on the guardsman.

Thanks for the feedback Bebop !
It's always good for me to read comments about my painting, be it compliments, criticisms or simply questions. I learned a lot that way, since I don't have a "jedi painting master" that took me under his protection to teach me all the secrets of the galaxy.

Concerning the face, I tried to have a really smooth result, with soft transitions, pink and red glazes on his cheeks and lips and so on. And yeah, maybe in the end it lacks a bit of contrast. I agree with that. I'm happy with the result technically speaking, but a bit more shades would have been better.
The base, as you say, is painted to fit on my gaming board (and my friend's board too). If you check my gallery you'll see that whatever army/game I paint, bases are similar (not identical, but close enough to look good on the same gaming boards). However, I added a strange green glow coming from the cracks in the ground. I had never done that, and it adds a little touch to the model that I really like. Doesn't look as good on the photos as IRL, though. ^_^

There is a satin finish on the pix, yes. A soft satin finish. Reason is that I used a wash, that leaves a little "shine" when it dries, and due to the weather we had here when I painted the model I couldn't spray varnish on it without taking the risk of ruining everything. But it looks matte now. I only added a gloss coat on the boots and on the lenses, that's all.
The satin look adds a bit of highlights to the model, but not too much. The highlights are present on the model because from the beginning, I planned to spray a matte coat on it.

That's the best part of the contest.
Have fun.

And once again, thanks to all the judges, and congrats to all contestants. I really enjoyed coming on Bebop's topic and dicovering new schemes almost everyday. It was so much fun.
