Has anyone else noticed that these new boxes don't come with Kannons, Lobbas, or Zzap guns. I was reading the new WD. So this new box is strictly for the new guns. I am curious what new Ork players will do to get these guns, besides scratch build of course.

I wonder if you could cut out each barrel and make this into 4 skyfire guns. Seems legit, and it would look cool

That seems like significantly more effort than just scratch-building. Gun barrels aren't difficult to make.

I almost jumped out of my skin whenI saw bubble chucka and smasha gun/!

Then saw the model. Looks like a mantic dwarf father cannon on a generic ork buggy chassis. Sigh. Oh but I could walk away with ONE for $46 screw you.

Then I saw the rules. There's nothing old school orky about them. Smasha guns and bubble chuckas were amazing. So were splattas. They were everything that make orky-knowwots fun. Random crazy dangerous things. Now it's roll for strength.....okay. Cough.

I had hoped there would be something really cool about them. I'm not rage quitting or anything, I am disappointed. To me every new ork thing has been an uninspired "Why bother?" moment. And they are streching out the new units nd rules over weeks. Why not just show everything.

They wonder why they are losing business.

$377 you get

10 lootas
4 phoned in artillery models
a Shokk attack gun
10 flash gits.

Okay. Seems disappointing at best.

Well, I've had a crack at estimating the dimensions of the mek gun from images on the GW website.

These are based on the assumption that it comes on two medium frames (about 135mm by 160mm) and the wheels are the same size as the small trukk wheels.

I'm currently trying to work out a standard design for a scratch-built gun carriage which will be able to take the large trukk wheels and not end up significantly larger than the GW one. Will try and get proper documentation and photos this time and make a tutorial.

Well, here's a rough draft in sketchup. I'm trying to hit a good compromise between ease of assembly, working around easily available components, aesthetics, similar dimensions to the GW version and sturdiness.

That close up shot of the gun reveals something interesting for kitbashing purposes. The little shield the grot is hiding behind looks identical to the extra armor for trukks...only cut in half. Pretty sure every ork player has tons of those for shieldy-bitz since who the crap buys them on trukks? lol (i dont even model them because i think they look dumb too)

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

So first of all, the basic gun costs 18 points comes with a grot. You can field 1 to 5 of them. You can buy 2 more grots and a ammo runt for 3 points each. The upgraded guns end up running you 30 points.
Unfortunatley GW has decided you will pay 46 dollars American for your 30 point unit.

A 150 point unit, for 230 dollars. More than a knight or a baneblade. Let that sink in.

That is a lot of bread for a 150 point unit.

However, I think we all understand that the model size, number of them and detail is what we're paying for. Not points.

I look at GW's dividends over the course of time since 2010 and its pretty stunning. This is not a company that is doing poorly. And they are indeed doing it at your expense. My problem with criticizing that is that they are a model company. Thats the product. We all snicker when we hear that but what, except models, do we complain about? When I look at other models of even CLOSE to comp[arable detail and interest to me, I shudder. The industry as a whole is charging these prices. I looked at a QUALITY Tiger Tank model recently that was comparable, perhaps slightly smaller, than a Land Raider. $110. Let THAT sink in!

GW is not your buddy. They don't care to be. But they aren't the anti-Christ either and I think that if you are JUST collecting the armies to play, then sure you'll feel somewhat jipped. But if you just love the models and how they look and BY THE WAY you can also play a game with them, then you will just collect and play at your comfortable pace.

I think the pressure to get a PLAYABLE army to 2K is what causes people the angst but you can play this game at 1K, at 1500 at 1850...whatever. And its fun. I know some gamers dont give a fig about that because they are thinking tournaments (and so am I). But GW isn't wrong: they are making the worlds COOLEST and most VARIED model line and the models would be awesome whether you never played another game again or not. Their competitors aren't charging less for comparable things.

It bothers me a lot that GW isn't making the game accessible to the newest player. THAT is where they are going to bite the hand that feeds. Because enough of you will stop buying eventually and the newer players wont even be influxing. It's not a sustainable model. They continue to open the doors for companies like Privateer Press and other smaller games are getting traction like Dropzone Commander, just because GW makes it easy for them to compete. GW has desensitized gamers to their prices which makes the other games downright affordable in comparison. The GW stock price proved that investors had noticed this model isn't as attractive to the core players and the rules were really causing a problem. But even that is on the rise currently rebounding from where it rested in the $490's before they leaked 7E was coming and now at $661 after 7E came out and 7E is GREAT. The stock will go higher. A lot higher. Profits are just pouring out of this company. Envy is peoples first sin when they hear that. They say "Hey if they're making so much, how come they dont make it cheaper for me to buy" (as if you mattered). The answer is: they are required by law to make as much money as they can for stockholders within the reasonable bounds of good business practice and that means until you cease buying it, what's the point?

Outrage over prices shows that you care about and enjoy the game. Since tournaments aren't a requirement of the game it might just be time for players to go underground, play at their houses and FLGS and start not buying. Dont trumpet it. Dont hate on GW. Dont deprive yourself of the game. Just deprive them of profits. Its not personal. Its just business for you as well. But understand that short of a worldwide movement... you're vocal resistence is futile. So you may as well decide now and get on with life, start buying other games. Railing about it on forums and acting as if its personal is not going to avail you.

Are you seriously defending GW for demanding $230 for a single heavy support choice? The equivalent of two stompas?

Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.

I think GW understands that many ork players scratch build everything they can. And the gunz are not that hard to make with your own hands.

But not everyone is eager to scratchbuild stuff. There's a large population of competitive tournament players that don't do it for different reasons. Gunz are obviously a strong competitive unit. So, who's allready creating stuff themselves will do it once again. GW's getting 0$ there in any case. But tournament players will have to buy the gunz even if they're so expensive. I mean, wave serpents, wraithknights, dragonz and riptides ain't cheap but they're everywhere.

Orks have alwayz had the worst price per points ratio.

How many those can be fielded ten to fifteen times?

I want those models because I like them. I'm not getting them because the are literally rip-off.

I just hope some will appear on ebay during the next years. If I'm still playing, that is. Their ridiculous pricing on top of terrible rules and terrible balancing might just be enough to drive me away from those awesome models and their great fluff.

I have to give a nod to the Bubble Chukkas. I got a couple opponents to allow me to use old Pulsa Rokkits with Bubble Chukka rules (makes sense) and Splatta Kannons as Smasha Guns (they look like anti-tank weapons), so I tried those (and one Traktor Kannon with an old Smasha Gun, but the game with anti-air my opponent killed it on the first turn).

The Bubble Chukkas rocked it in my first game. Played two players, one with IG and one with Necrons (and we just didn't worry about ally chart, because it was just for fun). I dropped my BCs on a large Guard platoon, rolled S/AP 4, and proceeded to shred half of the platoon; next turn got S/AP 5 and knocked down some Necron Immortals. The Smasha Guns managed to miss even with Grot BS and Ammo Runts, with one hit at high Strength then bouncing off, because my dice rolling is horrible. For added laughs, my Morkanaut was carrying six Burna Boyz, who hopped out right in front of the remainder of the IG platoon and proceeded to torch them all.

The second game I played, you can't just things much... My opponent had a "Space Wolves" army that was something like this:

Rune Priest
Wolf Lord?
Grey Hunter pack with meltas
Grey Hunter pack with meltas in drop pod
2x 6 Long Fangs with 5 missile launchers
Manticore with camo
IG Command Squad with camo, Master of the Fleet, Master of Ordnance, Astropath
2x Ministorum Priest
1x Primaris Psyker
2x Veteran Squad with missile launcher
Aegis line with quad gun

He used Biomancy, giving one Grey Hunter pack Endurance repeatedly. Priests gave reroll to hit and saves in combat. Aegis line gave 4+ to Long Fangs, 3+ to guys with camo, ended up a 2+ when Astropath got off Shrouding. Plenty of stuff sat behind the Aegis and just shot... and shot... and shot. IG giving "Bring it Down" orders, psychic powers in squads, all kinds of Battle Brothers goodness. He wreck my stuff with firing and damn near everything I fired bounced off the Aegis or the 4+ FNP that the Endurance was giving the forward squad. Within two turns my army was just evaporated... much like the last time I played his Space Wolves/IG with Orks. If not for the 2+ save from the wall and Shrouding, my Bubble Chukkas and Smasha Guns could have taken out his Long Fangs and Manticore. (The Smasha Guns got S10 the first turn, S9 the next... but then you have to roll to hit and pen, and then he has to fail the save, so... yeah.)

don't mean to resurrect a post, but got a question for you all, any of the big-gunz from the old book, are those pretty much the models that the new "mek gunz" substituted ?

The old big gunz have become part of the Mek Gunz entry, but not the mek gunz box GW sells. Lobba, kannon and zzap gun are available just as they were before, the actual mek gunz smasha, bubblechucka, kustom mega-kannon and traktor kannon have been added to those with new models.

The only difference for your old batteries are reduced point costs and increased unit size.
