I once got fined for not having a working light on my bicycle. It was not my fault, my light was just fine, but it was very snowy and there was snow between the wheel and the dynamo, which prevented it from working. No one had a working light, because everyone had the same problem. The police were just standing along the road and fining everyone. And when I protested, they almost gave me a double fine! Since then, I have always hated the police. Sometimes it seems the police is actually worse than the criminals they are supposed to protect us from. A good police force is necessary for having an orderly modern society, but all police officers should be actually good people, not a bunch of unreasonable jerks whose only task seems to be stealing money for the government with unreasonable fines, making up fake charges in order to get people in jail and infringing on your privacy.
Also, bicycle lighting which relies on a dynamo won't work in the snow. Better to use battery lighting instead.

What I've learned the hard way is that if you are pulled over by the police, park your car somewhere it can remain parked without you in it.

A minute's drive away from home, I notice flashing lights behind me. Assuming he just wanted to pass me, I pulled to the side of road. To my suprise he pulls in behind me. He then informs he that he pulled me over because my registration sticker on license plate expired, the day earlier. $25 ticket for being late with a $15 registration, but hey, no big deal right ? The real problem is the officer would not let me drive my "unregistered" vehicle. The car was in a break down lane, so it can't stay there, and since I can't drive it, it's going to have to towed. $150 for an emergency tow, and neither the cop or the Tow truck want to give me a ride. To make matters worse, the car is 30ft away from the driveway of my insurance company. I could have pushed the damn thing into the parking lot, so it wouldn't need to be towed, but he wouldn't let me.

the time it takes you to realize something is happening, drop your burger, and move your hand to get onto the wheel of the car is more time than it takes to get into an accident.

If your driving with BOTH hands on the burger, you deseve to get into an accident.

Most food related accidents are the result of being distracted after spilling something hot/cold onto the drivers lap.

I love how people think the police's job is to keep people from being stupid. Right. Quick, let's pull a guy over for not wearing a helmet, the 'moms' of the world would be really disappointed.

Cops are people. Some good, some bad just like anything else. I've found that when i'm cool with a cop, they're cool with me. Then again, I've met the guys who couldn't make it as successful jocks so they became cops, also known as 'douchebags'. These guys are the ones you read about shooting kids and tazing mothers holding infants.

Although, from my experiences, I've encountered more cops interested in fething with me than actually doing something productive.

That being said, I open carry, cops LOVE me.

You would be amazed how many people complain because they broke the law just a little. Check your car, do what your suppose to do and your fine.

You would be amazed how many people said it was just a little illegal.

I need to go to work every day.

I noticed your registration expires this month (thats fair and?)
So can I search your car (not fair).
hey I don't need your permission to search your car (if you didn't you wouldn't have asked)
all right time time for the handcuffs and the drug dogs (really?)

Thats what they object to, and this happened to my boy.

By the same token, if a police officer wants to, they can find just about anything to hit you for. The number of things you can be ticketed or potentially arrested for, especially in CA, is mind boggling. I've had at least three of four officers tell me point blank (usually off duty while hanging out playing warhammer or at a shooting range or something during conversation) that if they want to find something, they will.

Glad that most users here have had nothing more to worry about other than violations whilst driving.

I had a cop put a shotgun to my head once, but I'm not going to talk about all the fun in LA here, and he was even right to do so.

Does that help?

Only one?

I, too, know they joy of looking down the barrels. But this was in Oakland, so for me it was Tuesday.

I did get a bit of the business when I accidentally smuggled 6+inch blade into the Oakland courthouse.

But the cops everywhere else seem much less high-strung.

Back when I was in my early teens a few of us skipped school and decided to go the mall to watch a movie. Not yet old enough to drive, we walked. Just minutes away from the mall a cop passed us, and noticed my friends looking unconfrtable as he did. He rolled a little up the street, kicked on the lights and sirens, made a dramatic U-turn, and hit the gas heading our way. My friends panicked and sprinted into the near by woods. I knew it was stupid, but I really didn't want to be standing there alone when the cop made it over to me, so I followed them.

What followed was about 20 minutes of us slogging through the woods as fast as we could as police cars, zipped up and down backed roads looking for us. Eventually we ended up getting bored in the woods and made for the mall. The cops spotted us, blazed towards at high speed, jacked the brakes, came within inches of us with their bumper, and jumped out screaming at us, with their guns aimed at us.

We surrender, jump in the back of the car. They radio the other cars that we've been apprehended and drive off in a rush. There is a minute of silence as we start heading to the police station and the driver asks us what we did. I told him we were skipping school and he laughed so hard that we nearly drove off the road.

I remember when one of my friends was hooked to 40k. He bought some SW boxes, brushes and paints with me, and as we exited out of the store i asked him: '' So, how do you like this plastic crack''?
and then i felt an HEAVY arm on my shoulder, and i saw a cop, he demanded to give him the drugs, and before i could explain him anything, he started searching us both.. I was scared $hitless, and i was trying to explain him the situation for a couple of times, but he told me to shut up... After 10-15 minutes of this freak show he asked me where was i intending to get the drugs... I point him at the Gaming store, show him the bag of ''drugs'' explain him what i meant by plastic crack and me and my friend, even the police officer laughed our Please don't bypass the language filter like this. Reds8n a$$es off

Got caught smoking the reefer by a cop, he told us to piss off and not be so stupid in public again.

Blew through a red light once, right in front of an unmarked car. Was on a restricted license (above a learners, below a full) with passengers (not allowed) and after curfew (also not allowed). He fined me for the red light and I dodged ~$1000 of fines for the other offenses.

Benefits of living in a society that isn't ruled by paranoia and where nobody is armed. Hell, even the cops here don't carry and there is mutual respect for the most part between police and the public. They even formally removed the 'force' part from their name due to the connotations that the word carries.
