I could very well be on a few, and I've definitly used it a few times.
The first time was on a thread about an old man being busted for pedophilia. The person was being a total ass, seemingly saying pedophiles didn't really exist, and thowing out some fairly moronic remarks.

Never used the feature, i think i've been a jerk a couple of times in the first year or so i was on the site but i am nothing but civil these days and avoid blanket, baiting, statements for the most part. There's a couple users i dislike, mainly for their smug, self-absorbed manner but i force myself to be satisfied with the simple fact that they are clearly smug and self absorbed people. A lesson i quickly learned is that there's no point picking at every single little hole or prat-fall someone makes. That wee satisfying sting of contempt i get when i read something stupid is usually enough for me

I have about four or five people on mine. There is one person I want to put on, but said poster occasionally has information I'd like to see, so I don't put him/her on it. I never find myself in agreement with said poster though. So each day is a coin toss of whether I do it or not.
Hope that's ambiguous enough for the mods.

Not really. Healthy attitudes about gender & sexuality are hardly prerequisite for marriage, love or just about anything else really. In fact I'd probably go so far as to say they probably don't play a huge role one way or the other on the matter. Misogyny is or lack thereof is really kind of a non-factor when it comes to finding love.

To an extent but believe it or not it's more because i'm more introverted and don't often friend people on here. I have quite a few. Also if you're one of the few female on a male dominated forum chances are a lot of guys will give the girl attention. Not always but it happens.
Also yeah that person in question has very extreme views and gets angry easily. In fact they have a blog nobody visits as it harbors such extreme views.

If the button had a 'zap a user in addition to ignoring them' I feel I'd use it more.
But no, to answer the OP's question, I don't use it at all. If I want to ignore someone I can just scroll by their bs or not read the thread. Or *gasp* get off the computer and go do something else that isn't infuriating.

I've used it once, for a guy who came into the 40K Background section and started insulting people for discussing the background of 40K. I don't mind disagreements. I don't mind contrary, demonstrably wrong, or even flat out insane opinions. But going into a background discussion area of a forum and mocking people for discussing the background is lazy trolling. Put some effort into it, dammit.

I've only got one person on my ignore list, and that is purely because I just don't have the time/energy to decipher what the heck they are trying to say.
I get that English isn't their native language, but their posts read to me, as if they typed something in Thai into Google Translate, and went from Thai, to French, to Finnish, to Japanese, into Italian, and then in to English.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |
