How many times do people have to link you to the full V1 lists that were available for download, and still are via the magic of Google, before you stop posting this?

Considering this doesn't contradict what he is saying, an infinite number?

Free V1 rules don't automatically mean that the V2 rules will be free in their entirety. There was obviously a strong expectation that they would be , as can be seen from this thread, but did Mantic ever explicitly state that the rules and army lists would be completely free?

Mantic did a poor job of relaying their plans for V2, that is undeniable but I don't think that they were in anyway dishonest.

Yes it does contradict it?

He emphasized "I at least thought it would equal V1. " and said that the new rules posted do equal V1 so therefore he doesn't understand why people are annoyed.

The rules posted do not equal V1. They are far less than were posted for V1.

The full army lists in V1 were not available until a few months after the V1 book was published. So in effect, the V2 release IS the equal of V1.

Ye.

It was the Alpha and Beta rules that were complete - starting with the release of v.1 the free rules had much more limited units - which got expanded a while later for full lists.

What we got was pretty much what I expected to get - so I was not surprised.

That said... I can quite easily see how others might have expected more - and I believe that the miscommunication happened because Mantic assumed that everyone already knew what they meant - so they didn't expand on what they thought everyone already knew.

The worst kind of secret is the one where somebody assumes that everyone already knows - or most people already do know, and do not bother explaining it to a newcomer, because everyone already knows....

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I was expecting the full rules and army lists based on what Mantic were saying. Rulebooks should be sold based on value added, fluff, campaigns, optional extra rules and senarios etc.

Somewhat feel let down after telling people everything will be released free online.

Could Mantic be more clear on the download page that these free rules are not the full rules and that the army lists have more units that will be published in the full version of the rulebook?

Apologies on facebook for having been unclear in communication is all well and good. Not everyone sees those posts however (not everyone has facebook, much less check it regularly or are 'friends' with Mantic there).

There are lots of folks being confused at the moment, thinking units have been removes etc., and it would be very easily avoided of Mantic just updated the text on their homepage to be more clear. They have had two days now since the release of the free rules.

Also, please add some kind of version number on the PDF's for clarity.

I was going to post this in the Mantic forum but I cannot seem to either post a new thread or reply to an existing one. I assume there is some restriction on posting for the first day or so after creating an account.

Could mattjgilbert or someone else who presumably has the ear of Mantic please relay these points (should they be unaware of the issues).

I totally agree with this, and posted something similar in the N&R thread.

Despite what Mikes is saying, the huge problem here is right now the lists look woefully incomplete but it is difficult to know that they're only teasers unless you read forums / facebook / etc (which most people don't, although obviously all here are exceptions ).

For my friends who are considering jumping to Kings of War, there needs to be notice that those lists aren't everything available for an army, or they'll just move on thinking their armies (or planned armies) won't fit. This is obviously the case when even Mantic followers were posting "Why was X unit removed?" last week. Newcomers will just assume that unit doesn't exist! Unless there is at least some mention of it.

The very best course of action would be, imo, to include a listing in each army list for the missing units, with their points cost only (no stats) and a note "full entry in rulebook" or the like. This lets people point out an army list, see what's available to each army, but still need the full rules. Could someone pass on that suggestion to Mantic, I think it would really help with inviting people in? Otherwise, basically no one is going to be able to add up an army list for Kings of War 2.0 until late August (maybe early September?) and momentum for drawing in newcomers upset about the AoS release will have been well lost by then.

Eh? The full digital rulebook and army list download link for KS backers have already been sent out. I'm reading through my copy right now.

Me too but I meant people without access to that (non backers). Having the unit entries shown but not detailed would go a long way towards helping bridge that gap! But obviously I'm thrilled to just have access to the rules myself

Yeah, there should be a little box at the end with "Purchase the Kings of War Rulebook to find the entries for: [...]" or something like that, just to show that they exist.
