My current work bench still. Assault Marines are done, put together two Landspeeder Storms, and I'm touching up my Vanguard at the moment. Still haven't figured out what I'm going to do with there bases. I still need a light box.

I like the look of the regular guys with terminator lightening claws. Basing is important. Usually can't hurt a figure but it can make them look fantastic if done right.

@Gitsplitta - I agree Git, they are actually straight from the Vanguard box.

I got around to basing them all using the slate I was talking about earlier in the post, so worth it, I've based 80+ models and I'm only half way through the first tub of two. There bases came out exactly how I was hoping, could not resist and had to redo the display board with the slate and put them on it even if the models are not done being painted. Hope you enjoy and also more WIP on my one Vanguard squad!

Looks great. I love the use of the winged jump pack for the RG.

Chaopy and vanguard are looking great.

The shot of the entire force looks really impressive too.

Chappy looks great. Excellent detail and choice of colors. You need to snag a fine point illustration pen so you can add some squiggled to those purity seals.

Epic man! Looking great! Getting cold here in Texas (YES it gets cold in Texas...) and it's getting more difficult to prime models. I should get both of my units done I have primed, but I am lazy lol. Dig the cockpits on your talons, I love that blue.

Keep up the good work boss!

@brushcommando - Thank you, was well worth the expense of buying the set of blood angels honor guard. Have enough for 4 more characters.

@Evildrcheese - Thanks, I thought painting a all black army would be easy. Nope.

@Gitsplitta - Yes I do, then learn from the master of squiggles Knightley.

@Castellan Alaric - Thanks, I live in Texas too, just further south in the Killeen area, had to wait till last Thursday to prime. I made sure everything was assembled so I could.

I am working on the Vanguard now. Have 2 of them done so far.

That chaplain looks nice! Have you thought about maybe a line highlight of grey along the edges of the wings? At the moment they don't really stand out from the backpack.

That probably means 'summer temperature' for everyone in the UK.
Was in Texas in August and it was HOT

Love what your doing with the RG.
I think the wings on the chappy's backpack need something to make them stick out more.

@Warboss_Waaazag - I have highlighted it with eshin Gray but you cannot tell from the pictures.

@Zambro - Thanks and I agree I want to do something special but first attempted yielded bad results so I went conservative.

1st of 3 Vanguard squad complete. I am beginning to hate painting white.

Could not sleep yesterday, so decided to make a Captain model. I'm normally not a big fan of bare heads but found a great one when looking through my bits. I did not like the original captain I made so remade him. Hope y'all enjoy.

Cool captain. Have you considered going the wings a different colour? I think white wings would looks excellent on that mini.

@Gitsplitta - Thanks brother!

@Bash the Bosh - Appreciate it, the head just spoke to me, reminded me of Corvax pictures in 40k artwork.

@EDC - Thanks, I have been seriously contemplating that, I want to keep it looking like Raven wings and not Angel wings. I need to figure out a way to make them stand out more. Maybe more light gray highlights on the edges and tips of the feathers.

Looking awesome! Will you run them as those relic claws from the new kayoun book? Swiftstrike and murder just sound so cool. I'd agree some more contrast on his wings would be nice - some grey edge highlighting could work solid, or my solution would be a nice delicate drybrush to pick out the edges of the feathers. I'm a fan of keeping the RG simple. They are subtle in the armor ornamentation, which I'm trying to figure out how to keep that theme there without my models looking super flat. I'll probably wash most most of my colors I put on them black to keep them 'stealthier' lol

Love the progress boss! I'm kind of in hobby shut-down until after the holidays. I had a real big push to finish assembling my pinion company, but until I get my BaC box from Christmas I'm kind of indifferent to painting :/ Also the weather down here has been so back and forth I can't pin down a day to prime. Muggy/rainy/70 one day and dry/cold/45 the next...oh the joys of "winter" in Texas.

Keep up the good work!

@Castellan Alaric - Yes I will be running them as Swiftstrike and Murder!

Have a 1800 tournament the begining of January I am preparing for and touching up my Raven Guard. Still have to do my Stormtalons and Landspeeders, have been putting it off.

I broke and redid the wings as all of you suggested. I love the way they turned out and hopefully added depth. I kept reworking the front of my Captain as I don't know how but people always think he's just another Vanguard or Vet Sergeant.

My list for the tournament will be -

Pinion Demi Company

Captain Vansh - JP, Swiftstrike and Murder
2x5 Tacticals - Lascannon
5 Tacticals - Plasma Gun
5 Sniper Scouts - Camo Cloaks
5 Devastators - 4 Plasma Cannons
5 Assault Marines - Sgt w/ Power Axe (Chaplain Edgar and Vansh will go here)

Raptorwing

2x Raptors w/ Skyhammer
1 Landspeeder w/ Heavy Bolter

Stealth Kill Team

2x 5 CCW Scouts - Melta Bomb in LSS w/ Heavy Flames
3x5 Vanguard - 3 LC, 2 SS, 2 Power Axes, 1 PF

Strike Force Command

Chaplain Edgar - Ravens Fury, Melta Bomb

Play testing has gone well so far. Struggle against high AV and gargantuans but that's to be expected.

Hope yall enjoy the update!

Hey! Sorry for not checking in earlier - this stuff is looking great! Enjoyed shifting through your progress with that horde of Raven Guard. Love the uniquity of your chaplain model and the use of sanguinary wings. Have to agree with what EDC said earlier though - white or bone coloured wings would make those characters shine. Great stuff all around, consider me subbed

I agree with the likes of lipsdapips, it is a lovely looking army with lots of thematic unit choices. I have always have a soft spot for Raven Guard and their lightning strike tactics.

The jump Captain and Chaplain are really nice kit bashes as well. Keep up the good work.

@War Kitten - Thanks, what happens when you have insomnia and a model idea in your head!

@lipsdapips- Thanks for your kind words, you were one of my inspirations. I agree on the wings but I want to keep it dark.

@Thraxas Of Turai - Thanks, I love Raven Guard and there fluff. The turning hand of starting Raven Guard was I loved Edgar Allan Poes Poems, I was Artillery in the Army and a lot of people don't know but Edgar was a Artillery Sergeant Major.

@EDC - Thanks again, I wish Army shots turned out better.

Work in progress are Centurions and a Storm Raven. Arguably Centurions aren't too fluffy but I think air dropping them from a Storm Raven is plenty fluffy.

Raven Guard Centurians are a great addition. Any thoughts on maybe some Grav-chutes or external dampners to add to the idea of these guys doing a sort of low-altitude jump into position?

@Bash the Bosh - No I don't because the Raven deepstrikes and they unload out of it. That is a good idea for future though.

Has been a good Christmas break, was helping my folks clean and start remodeling their house. Santa was good to me, some forgeworld and enough Landspeeders to do 3 Typhoons, Biker scouts and more scouts.

Hope you enjoy my WIP Bikers and Captain! Have to finish them up by Saturday have a 1800 point tournament and decided I wanted to change out the assault marines for bikes.

Yeah the bikes will probably serve you better than assault marines in a tournament. What have you armed the captain with?
