I thought they'd aleady put a Whedon tribute into X-wing with the IG2000 title, you know the one that makes all the characters the same,,,

Dissing Whedon on this sort of forum?

Come to think of it, this could be rather funny in a Z-95 mini Swarm. Kaa'to, N'dru with talent, assault missiles and toys, and four Deadman Switch headhunters. Surround something with headhunters, and BOOM!

Reminds me of Ruthlessness. Something like that for Scum would be very thematic - high risk of your pilots shooting each other in the back.

I would expect wave 9 to include some more ships from The Force Awakens - Kylo Ren's shuttle and the two-seater TIE Fighter, a new Millennium Falcon and I'm sure there'll be others.

It's a safe bet that we'll just be seeing ships from current Star Wars projects (whether that be from the new trilogy, or from spin-offs like Rebels). Which is fine by me, they've basically fleshed out the Original Trilogy and old EU as deeply as I ever expected them to.

Now... if only we could get some Prequel Trilogy ships. Maybe someday.

Only if they reboot the whole system or spin it off into a completely different game. There just isn't room in the current stats to show a meaningful distinction between the older ships. There are many discussions on this point on this forum and other forums... so let's not get into it here.

We could see a Baudo class Yacht (Pulsar Skate)

It's pretty niche, but that's going to become increasingly the case as releases continue, and it's apparently slightly shorter than a YT1300, so scale shouldn't be an issue.

Not necessarily, with the plethora of movies planned by Disney, we're going to see a lot of new designs on screen.

The rate of movie releases vs the rate of new ships means that if they can draw that heavily on them then we're going to be seeing a LOT of new designs.

Well, this...

But I think there will be. They've specifically been hiding a lot of details from the movie, and I highly doubt that they would have beefed up X-wings and use that and only that.

Careful. The A-Wings and B-Wings are things of beauty. Trying to improve on them will only mess them up.

But seriously if you want to give me Talon rolls on a B-wing, bring it on!!!!

I'd think it more likely for there to be entirely new designs that fill the A and B's respective niches rather than upgrades of their frames. The X-Wing is iconic and recognizable even to non-fans. The other ships not so much. Makes sense to give the old standard a bit of a re-jig but make entirely new interceptors and bombers.

Personally though, I'm hoping Y-Wings make an appearance. In any form.

I'm not sure the in galaxy timeline really supports entirely new ships (and the fact we have FOs and T70s suggests similar.)

Much like real world military, in can take decades for a new craft to make it from prototype to wide use, many of the most iconic ships from the original movies era date from before the Clone Wars, and the B Wing is an almost new design.

So while anything is possible in the brave new Disney world, I'd expect to see modified versions of existing chassis, if they make appearances at all, with the odd new thing like Ren's shuttle (which is still essentially a derivative of the 'current' Shuttle.)

Yeah, it's really a bit of a cluster...

A-Wings and B-Wings were supposed to be brand new as of the Battle of Endor, but the Droids cartoon used them both in a 12-15 BBY-ish setting. That, of course, was because they had just seen release as Kenner toys and kids spotting them on Saturday morning cartoons would mean they made the Christmas and birthday lists.

Those were retconned to be the R-22 Spearhead and H-something Tempest bomber, respectively (I could check Wookieepedia for the exact designation, this gak is all sadly ingrained in memory) which were both either inspirations or testbed prototypes for the ships we saw in Jedi.

And I believe Rebels has just done an episode with a new or prototype B Wing in another timeframe again, but I guess that would actually fit with a BBY version?

Yes, both the A and the B have recently appeared in rebels as prototypes BBY 4-5. That doesn't fit with the Droids appearance (which has been moved to the legends designation... No longer canon).

Ok...
The TIE/FO and T-70 packs are marked as "Shipping"... which means that they have arrived in the FFG warehouse and are shipping out to distributors. My guess is that you'll be able to buy them on the 19th or shortly there after.
The Imperial Carrier (along with reprints of the IG-2000, Most Wanted, Scyk, and StarViper) are still marked on the boat though it may be changing status soon. The rest of Wave VIII is still at the Printer.

Mark me excited for the Imperial Carrier. Planning on an Epic Event Jan. 30 and I'm really hoping that it is available by then.

I wish these would of been out for Christmas so I could put it on the list for presents... would of been one of the few times I received something I knew I would of purchased myself!

I'm excited for the Imperial Carrier and the 2 Scum ships, the rest not so much, but I'll be getting them anyway!

Then again, this is a sci fi universe and it doesn't necessarily follow real-world production schedules and government budgets. In the now non-canon books, they had droids that could wreck entire buildings on Corscant and rebuild them in a matter of days. I wouldn't doubt that since the rebels have taken ship yards and many planets with vast resources in the original trilogy period, that then designing completely new ships over the course of another 30 some odd years would produce some brand new ships other than just updating older designs. Also, as they liberate more different alien species, the design of ship could radically change.

I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally

You'll note in my second paragraph I point out how it's already established that various starship chassis hang around for a decent period of time, and we can see from the evolution of T-65 to T-70 over the interim between VI and VII that still seems largely to be the case.

I also didn't rule anything out, but all the evidence we have from the original movies, the EU and what we know of the new movies suggests that this pace of advancement is still present, again, much like modern military where a design can take a decade or more to make it in service and then remain in service with incremental upgrades for some time.

Anything is possible, but I think this the most likely way forward.

The B-wing needs its time in the sun, first. Its presence was underwhelming in ROTJ.

The B-wing has had plenty of screentime. It has had an entire episode of Rebels devoted to it. The X-wing hasn't even appeared there.

Not an entire episode of a cartoon!?!!??!

I want to see realistic squads dogfighting. Not a single b-wing do what no other b-wing has done in the relative future.

I'm just a grognard. Don't mind me too much.

Too bad we didn't get the concept art (IIRC referenced in the novelization of ROTJ) of a b-wing squadron taking out a star destroyer because 1980s bluescreen technology had problems with the b-wing model.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
