Wait a minute...did the OP ever think to just ask the GW staff to please let him use all 4x6 tiles? If he is a paying customers no matter how thrifty or generous, the staff should say Yes Sir! and if not then they can give him their excuse I want to hear.

He's confirmed already that if he asks, they let him use a full sized table. They just thought smaller games worked better on a 4x4. So it's clearly not a case of nasty old GW trying to push players out of their stores. I know that's a shame for the narrative that you are trying to push, but oh well.

Fwiw I've played 1500 on a small board like that and it worked just fine, I would have rather had more room, but sometimes needs must. I definitely wouldn't want to go any bigger than that though.

He has to ask them for the 4x6 otherwise they will assume he would want 4x4. Less room, less models, less moving, less time. This type of play favors deathstars that tournament scene fosters.

It certainly does, but then some people might like that not me, but some people. This is really a non issue.

Part of my cynical side is thinking the GW employees play shooty/blast armies so they are doing it for their own advantage. Some employees are really intent on winning and playing OP stuff. To the point that some tables have lots of cover (which always get taken) and being left with the local parking lot, even though they have more terrain.

Otherwise it might be a busy GW and keeping it 4×4 speeds up games?

Sorry for my spelling. I'm not a native speaker and a dyslexic.

There is a new card game called Conquest with Wh40k stuff. I have never played it and when the clerk told me its not just another tcg it is a libing card game. I dont care. I want to play wh40k with dice rolling and not depend on a deck. I want the cards to represent squadrons on the battle field without having to draw from a deck. Just use the cards to represent minis.

Um...k? Not sure what you're driving at. Second, having played and owned that game, it's ana absolute blast, but suffers from usually small play groups.

My post was really off topic but it was related to all the MTG players supporting the flgs that also has wh40k.

I have this crazy idea that is completely futile and pointless. My idea is to create a FREE game where by I create a real life version of Vassal. Using Index Cards to trace the base foot print of models and print the top down view of models on it. If its bigger than 3×5 then I use multiple index cards joining them together. Essentially creating a flat version of the game eliminating all 3D aspects. Not a lot of people will like it, alot of people dont like me and its pointless when you already have the models.

I really dont like the idea of a deck of cards and the hand you are delt. Just use cards to represent the models and the regular rules wh40k rules but what ever.

Please have fun playing 1500v1500 on a 4x4 board.

Never once Did I say GW were evil mindless sales drones. You said that and you went so far as to shove those words into my mouth sir. I stated the obvious and some people even said the same thing supporting me. You going out of your way to defend GW because you happen to be buddy buddy with 1 manager. News flash, GW is a company and is there to make money just like any company does.

At my old local we rarely got to use a 6X4. I'm pretty sure this was because of space. For a while we had 1 6X4 then swapped it out for 2 4x4. It became the norm and I never really cared. It means I can just plan in in a different way now.

Huh, either we've had a pretty awesome run of managers or something is off here. My local GW has us play any game of over 1000 points on 6x4 by default. Early escalation games or kill team will be done on a 4x4, but playing more than that on a small board seems rather pointless.

It's doubly odd since it's not even a large store, just a 1 man show with 2 6x4 gaming tables, another 6x4 set up for AoS and DV intros plus whatever new board game they've got on 2 tiles each and another table for painting.

I'll only play 1,000 points or less on a 4x4 board.
After that it's a 6x4.

Mainly for freedom of movement and space in general.

Anyone every seen 1,500+ points of Orks or blob guard on a 4x4?
Really restrictive on space.
