The holes are more annoying to me than anything. I usually don't use them and just use the ball on the base or next to it.

I generally try to slot the ball if I can, but if the model is leaning too far over the hole, as is with Orc Blitzers, or if I can't manage it in 3-5 seconds, then I'll throw in the towel and let it rest on top of the base.

As far as teams go, I've actually had a good deal of success with my Orc team. 4 blitzers, 4 black Orcs, 2 linemen, a thrower, and enough leftover for 3 rerolls. Drew 1-1 against a high elf team (stupid long bomb...) and won 1-0 against Chaos, averaging 4-5 KOs per drive. I got incredibly lucky and got a black orc to S5, but then he got walloped vs Chaos by his minotaur and has to sit the next one out. Getting blodge on the blitzer who has both TDs should be nice though.

I magnetized the ball and hole in the base of all of my BB players. I bought 80 3/32" x 3/32 rod rare earth magnets from amazingmagnets.com for around $10. They are the exact size of the hole so for the bases i super glued them right in, for the ball i removed the peg and counter-sunk the magnet. Now i can throw the ball near the base and it snaps right into place. I intend to use of GW basing effects for cracked or muddied pitch and the magnets are strong enough to still work over top of basing.

Sometime after the Bones 2 Kickstarter, I found that I had a lot more Bugbears than I felt like I needed. But I started thinking that they'd make great ogres, and if they only were a bit more demonic, they could be combined with a group of Imps that I had leftover from Ex Illis.

So here are my team's stars- the Bearded Devils. So far, they've performed a bit better than one should expect of the worst stunty team around.

Calling anyone with knowledge of the new version of the game!

Firstly, how has the passing changed in terms of measurement?
I have a specialist board and wanted to adapt will it have any trouble with the new rules?
Also are there official rules for Necromantic teams yet?

I know I can continue with the old stuff but a friend wants to start out, don't want him to get the new bits and for us then to have a metric/imperial conversion problem!

This is my current team, a Necromantic team from Greebo Games http://www.greebo-games.com/

There're diagrams you can find of what the passing ranges would be based on square counts if you have a mat that doesn't line up with the measuring widgets anymore. Don't have a link off hand though.

For balls and holes, I put my balls on little metal washers that I dremeled into a crescent that can hug a base. Very nice for keeping them weighted and upright and designating who's got it.

Also here's my first three painted Skaven Linemen.

As far as I know the passing ranges are the same. The ruler won't be of use on your board but the range charts should all be the same.
Necromantic teams are covered by the pdf on the GW site, so they are 'official' they just aren't in a book yet.

Nice board by the way. I wish GW had gone with that route for marking the squares. The Skaven and Orc sides of their respective pitches are really hard to 'read' the squares on.

No changes, but as has been said, the different size squares mean that the old range ruler works with the old mat, etc. If you are using a 3rd party pitch (or one you've made yourself) you are probably using the passing table already.

Also are there official rules for Necromantic teams yet? Necromantic has had a name change, but that is about it. You can find it in the Teams of Legend PDF on the Bloodbowl.com website.

Very cool getting a friend into the game. The base game is still a pretty good deal, even if you already have most of the old materials. I love the Greebo teams.

Many thanks for the info Plastictrees and Anpu-adom

I had no idea that the distance rules had changed away from a special template, so interesting to know!

I take it is the boxed game the only way to get hold of the new rulebook?

Just wanted to make sure that I'm being clear on the passing distance business.
You can use the passing template as long as you use it with the pitch is intended for... 3rd edition template for the 3rd edition pitch, 2016 template for the 2016 pitch (or Winter, or Dwarf/Skaven)
OR you can use the passing chart. Since it is based on counting squares, you can use it on any pitch. Here is one from the NAF. http://www.thenaf.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/throwing.jpg

The chart is an excellent tool as it eliminates the possibility of "close calls" when deciding what modifier to apply.

It does mean you can't tell who's allowed to intercept, though (since the template is wider than a square, models "off the line" are eligible to intercept).

Very playable, just not very exciting. Very durable bash team that slogs up the field wearing down the opposition so they can slowly score.
If you like a reliable playstyle then they could be for you. If you like a reactive team that can take advantage of mistakes by the opponent then not so much.

I guess they can be exiting when they gain experience like Guard.
How about the Deathroller? Is it a must-have?

Deathroller is a special weapon on a team that doesn't have cheap access to bribes in order to keep it in play. Most starting builds don't include one.

I never get one until way further in the league and I have my 15 other guys to field when it gets thrown off. Even then it's more used in the later parts of the game when I numerical advantage already.

Obviously personal opinion but Guard, Mighty Blow and Piling On (old rules) just make them better at the one playstyle. They don't suddenly become flexible unless you get some stat freaks.

Necromantic teams are covered by the pdf on the GW site, so they are 'official' they just aren't in a book yet.

Necromantic are included by GW in the teams of legends pdf. Also every single team of LRB6 including Slann are official by NAF standard.

Measurements have changed. Both grid and range ruler have changed, and not equally much.

I've made one attempt at making a comparison, but I've requested a few times for someone else to confirm, but no luck. Here is my suggestion (not easy to make 100% exact measures):

The passing chart is for old range ruler and old pitch. It does not fit the range ruler and the new pitch.

I would never get 15 players in a team unless I play halflings.

Those 15 dwarves are easily beaten by 11 dwarves with guard, and that even leaves enough difference in TV for a re-roll or some Mighty Blow / Stand Firm.

The Deathroller is fun, but not usually not worth it. I prefer having it for variety, also it has more mileage when using stadium enhancements and Referee's Rest area (free bribe to both teams).

Stewe128,
The Beastmen play on the Chaos Team. Other players on that team include Chaos Warriors and a Minotaur.
Beastmen themselves are pretty standard across the board. They come with Horns, which allows them to block at increased strength when doing a Blitz. It is something that comes into play a maximum of once per turn, so isn't all that great. They are maybe a little overcosted.
Chaos Warrior are humans in much tougher armor... AV9. They don't have any starting skills.
The Minotaur is a beast... literally.
Chaos is a great team at higher team values once you get some good mutations and skills, but will struggle at first because of a lack of reroll skills (dodge, block, and sure hands).

Beast men are overcosted to account for possibly getting mutations later. Chaos all around is decent, but excel later part of the league like said above. It just really sucks to lose a chaos warrior because of costs.
