I think one of the big things people are missing, or not taking into account, is that the Inceptor’s weapons are all Assault and not Heavy. As such, they will always be hitting on 3’s while most other things will take a penalty if they need to move for range/los purposes.

Sure, bolter vs bolter you save 30 points when taking the Devs, but, you then lose mobility, toughness and wounds – not to mention 2 extra “heavy bolters”.

Plasma variants are also interesting, as they come in only slightly more expensive than Helblasters, but again, you get an extra weapon firing and T, but are then lower on wound count.

Personally, I think Inceptors are 100% worth looking at now, and with their ability to come in squads up to 6, a single unit of 6 can do a lot of damage.

3 DA plasma inceptors rerolling 1's to hit can alpha strike a tank commander. They are among the most powerful units in the game and we will see a lot of whine on them.

They won't get the re-roll 1's though, as the deep strike counts as moving. But i agree - Plasma Inceptors might pop up in several plasma heavy DA lists going forward.

And that's ONLY because of their stratagem that adds plasma damage. You'll need to drop a Captain with them for the rerolls (just like everyone that isn't a smurf) because Grim Resolve only comes into play if they don't move.

I know, i was assuming that they had a captain (or a Belial and some DW knights).

...Actually i didn't realize that they also gained grim resolve, neat!

I was running them before because I like the models. It is exciting that they aren't hot garbage now. I'll eventually get a full squad of bolters and plasma for fun when I feel like running them. At least we have a decent non-FW FA option now.

It works.

I am going to run a squad with Plasma Exterminators with my Blood Angels. I plan to use the Upon Wings of Fire Strategem to let them bounce around the field.

Yeah this is gonna be a thing. Also FWIW Reece says Azreal stepping out of a Drop Pod will be a thing, which could grant Inceptors full re-rolls of misses.

With re-rolling misses, 3 overcharged plasma inceptors do an average 18 Wounds to a T7 3+ target with the plasma strategem. Without any re-rolls, 13 Wounds (and 2 dead Inceptors).

I plan to keep using 2 3 squad bolter ones in lists, they do their job and will do it cheaper now. deep strike preferably behind LOS terrain, only draw LOS to what you want to hit or barring that as little as possible, fire and maybe charge/tieup if situation applies. best case my opponent repositions some thigns to fire at them and they eat some shots that don't hit my fire support in the back (preds and devistators) or they get ignored in which case basically a bunch of harassment assault bolters flying about. not sure they will see tournament play btu they are a fun unit for open war.

One thing to bear in mind is that chapter masters cause more plasma dudes to explode than captains. It’s a bit of a weird one, but with a captain you only reroll 1s, which would have killed you anyway. With a chapter master you reroll 2s as well, and then have a 1/6 chance to die when you’d have been safe (but missed) stood next to a captain.

It works out as a 1/18 chance to die with a chapter master or 1/36 with a captain. Chapter masters are twice as dangerous!

Of course you do also get more hits with a chapter master.

Anyway the outcome of all of this is that belial and 6 plasma inceptors dropping down together will result in many dead things. Azrael costs more, makes them hit more and gives them a 4++, but also makes them blow themselves up more.

But chapter masters save more dudes against -1 to hit.

You don't HAVE to reroll 2s with a chapter master.

Yes, that's what they are referring to.

Intercessors actually have enough range that they can reach beyond a lot of simple screens. If someone's only got a 12" deployment zone then you ought be be able to hit anything unless it's wholly within 3" of its own board edge - and lots of things are simply too big for that.

It's definitely a consideration though. For my crimson fists I am debating whether to go with inceptors or mortis dreads with heavy bolters. They can reach a lot further so screens don't really work against them, though obviously they are far less mobile. Also, fire raptors exist! There are a lot of options for dakka now available to marines.
