Yes! You're more well versed than I in these new Aelves. Are his nations described as more martial than the more magical Teclian?

To expand a bit...

The Ten Paradises of Hysh are where the Lumineth are settled. It's split into two hemispheres, of four Great Nations each.
The Teclian Hemisphere:
The nations of Syar, Iliatha, Ymetrica, and Zaitrec are more reflective, like their patron moon, but no less deadly for it. They are masters of refining, shaping, and sculpting the energy of Hysh.

The Tyrionic Hemisphere:
The four Great Nations of Oultrai, Aurathrai, Helon, and Alumnia are heavily militarised, more given to the Tyrionic notions of sheer brilliance, swiftness of action, emanation of energy and pure unalloyed skill.

You might say "but...that's only 8?!".
There's two more: Xintil(the heart of Hysh, where Tyrion awoke) and Haixiah(the edge of the Realm). Whilst wandering Haixiah, Tyrion reached a point where he was staring at the raw light of Hysh for so long that his eyes melted within his skull...and in doing so piqued the curiosity of the Realm's Edge itself--the elemental spirit of brilliant light that occupied the Perimeter Inimical and shone as the blazing sun across all the realms.

The Tyrionic nations are solar based while Teclian are lunar based.

That critter hanging out with Teclis?
Spoiler:
Celennar is the True Moon of Hysh. It's not some magical construct like the Spirit of the Mountains or Avalenor, where a body is built and the spirit is allowed to possess it, it's the animus of the True Moon of Hysh, which is called Celennar, taking a physical form. Stuff is wiiiiiiiiiiiild. Teclis went on an astral journey that I'm not even going to attempt to heckin' spoil here that ends with Celennar manifesting as a winged leonine beast called a "lunasphinx".

There is a looooooooot to go through. The TLDR version of stuff is that Tyrionic side are more martial while the Teclian side are more philosophical.
Then you have those who are between the two sides of the mandala. They specifically call out amongst the foremost "the loreseekers, who fight as much with blades as they do with spells, often merging the two in a devastating combination".

And even then going into the Aelementari is a whole other thing entirely!
Zenith are those Aelves who can transmute themselves into light and are as rare as the "war-form incarnations of the aelementors themselves"(see: Alarith Spirit of the Mountains or Avalenor).
Next rarest are those who have found an accord with the Hyshian Winds. We got a brief description of these in the fluff, and they had "long-legged steed" mounted archers(could be a horse, could be something weirder...) and their war-form of the aelementor was a "fox-faced spirit" that wielded a bow and was on a "spiralling weave of ribbons".
Then there are the Alarith which we've seen.
And the most common are the River, with "tens of thousands of river warriors in the great nations". There's a mention of steed mounted mages who focus the heat and light of the desert wastes against an Orruk horde, killing half the invaders before they can reach the first water source. Once there, the river aelementari attack "with quicksilver grace" and "leaving hundreds of slashed throats in their wake". The river itself finally manifests its war-form, alongside of its tributaries, and sadly we don't get a description of that but it sounds heckin' sweet.

Fun fact, the subfaction they have as tied fairly closely to Teclis(Ymetrica) also makes the Alarith Aelf unit Battleline.

Just throwing that out there.

I think is probably the overall strongest nation out of all the options too. The heros don't get much out of the nation rules anyways though. Competitively they will just be plug and play I think. I personally like the Syar and think they will be the next best strong option. Still gonna use the hero cow though.

Anyone disappointed by no standard fighter hero? You've got LoE but he is Unique - good enough to use I think. I would have really liked a standard fighter general for this army though. I guess it will come eventually - probably on a dragon with any luck.

That's my gripe with the book too, as mentioned in the... other Lumineth thread on this forum.

So, Shining Company rule and movement trays. How are y'all going to rule them? Most* movement trays I've seen have gaps between the models bases. They're not base to base if using a movement tray like that. It's a small gap, but the rules also say you need to be B2B with 2 other models from the same unit to start with and maintain Shining Company. Should a specific rule like that be bypassed by an extra, unofficial widget?

Frankly, there's not many hero options period for the army. It was actually kind of refreshing as out of the 10 units we're getting? Only half are heroes, with 2 being Behemoths(Teclis and Avalenor), 3 being named(Teclis, Avalenor, Light of Eltharion), and the remaining 2 are generic(Alarith Stonemage and Scinari Cathallar). One of those heroes(Avalenor) is a named version of our standard Behemoth(Spirit of the Mountains).

No mentions of dragons as of yet, but there is an Asuryan Phoenix Temple rune on Tyrion's staff in the depictions in the book.

Personal hope is that we see the River Temple show up sooner rather than later. They have a mounted mage mentioned, a unit, and a war-form for their Aelementari.

I would say before the unit makes combat you could keep them on the trays and say they are locked in a particular touching formation. Once combat is reached they must come off the tray and be placed in contact to use the rules for shinning company. That would be for a casual game. Always happy to help make the game move faster but in combat it is possible to get severed the ability to make the requirements of the rule.

I was fooling around with formations. With 3 inch spear range a circle seems to be the easiest way to maintain SC.

I almost hope GW comes out and says something about movement trays with regards to Lumineth Shining Company. I'm all fine with them using move trays, and I intend to use them myself... But, as the rules go, they wouldn't get Shining Company. It'll be fine for casual, but if someone's feeling competitive, they could just tell you to follow the rules and there isn't much recourse.

On the matter of formation, I think a nice and simple wall of spears does well, two ranks deep. You maintain the Shining Company with two ranks deep until you're down to two models, where it wouldn't work no matter what. On 32mm, I think you'll be pushing it hard at 3 ranks deep.

Base to base means base to base. Even .5" between models spreads the unit out tremendously, which dramatically affects the logistics of moving them about the battlefield. The whole point is trading disadvantage for advantage, ignoring the disadvantage because it is inconvenient would be like letting a few models deep strike inside 9" of an enemy because it was inconvenient to place them otherwise.

Realistically the only movement trays I can see working for Shining Company are magnetic sheets with no material on them.

There are some movement trays that are sold by a few different companies that have no material gap between the bases, can see those ones being perfectly fine, so long as they fit right. But the ones with like 3-5mm of material between each base slot are, rules as written, not allowed for Shining Company. I won't care if my opponent uses them, and hope the same courtesy is extended to me.

Mostly asking for other people's opinions on the matter. With how long those spears are, moving the unit all in one go, or rotating models in place to help the enemy pile in seems like it will be exceptionally convenient.

Cheers for that Kanluwen. Some crazy cool sounding expansions to come!

@Thadin I use these trays. I really like them and they'd be perfect for what you're describing.

His nations aren't really described at all. We have the names and that's about it.

What we do know however is that there's more to the Vanari than just Dawnriders, Sentinels, and Wardens.
There are also charioteers, artillery crews, and scouts.

I would say that they are certainly the more martial of the Lumineth Realm Lords based on the descriptions of the Teclian and Tyrionic spheres of infulence. I love my new models and I am looking forward to more in the future

Which I hope the pre-order is next week. I’m such a lore fiend that I’m debating buying a boxed set just for the battletome, but then I’d just sell the mini’s and be left with the special edition battletome not matching any of my other battletomes. Its a conundrum!

Shouldn't be problem finding somebody you could sell models. Or somebody with spare book. I will soon have spare book myself but as you are in USA it seems postage makes it inefficient to buy from me

Well GW FB page specifically mentioned september as launch month in teaser for warhammer community article. Hopefully not a slip. Would mean preorders from 5.9 at best to 26.9(making store day to october) at worst.

What I was saying was that I want the book, but I don't want the limited edition book because of its different cover, thereby clashing with the rest of my collection which is standard AoS colors. Even the few books still with the AoS 1 graphic irk me.

Appreciate the offer though! I'll just be patient for the standard book.

It just removed the weirdness of Light of Eltharion being able to pick from it while not being a Wizard and having no way of becoming one.
