Those are really cool! Plus I should have spare bits somewhere.

Sadly in the move I’ve completely misplaced the flying stands for the first box of Jetbikes. So that’s a parts order come payday.

Now I am missing two core things from the army. Namely a Farseer and/or an Avatar. So they’ll be getting added in coming weeks too. Though I’m expecting a hefty overtime payment at the end of November, so probably then.

Cool project! I've also been slowly amassing old Eldar models to do a similar thing myself. I could probably do a 2000 pointer in all metal now. This is inspiring me to actually start painting them up.

Glad to hear it

Currently building my other box of Guardians, as the 2nd Ed List will definitely need a couple of decent sized squads. Especially with Shuriken Catapults, quite possibly the best basic weapon in that edition.

Softly softly catchy Monkaigh

After a week of Nurgle’s dubious blessings, managed some progress tonight. Nothing dramatic, just finished off 10 Guardians.

Two more Jetbikes to go, and 5 Dire Avengers and it’s “go and build a list o’clock”.

I’ll be interested to see how our 2nd-9th transpositions compare!

To be honest I'll probably play more 2nd ed than 9th. But I'll point out what I got out of curiosity.

Thing I’m struggling with is….choice!

It’s been a long time since I played 2nd Ed, and I swear I didn’t have this problem back then.

It’s mostly due to what are unit upgrades in the modern game (Grav Platforms, Exarchs) being separate options, with different limitations.

I can of course work around this, but knowing the rough future format is making it trickier to get a true reflection.

For instance, the humble Guardian. Like any 2nd Ed player I have of course upgraded them from weedy Lasguns to Shuriken Catapults, which were proper vicious. Arguably the best infantry basic weapon in the game.

Yet….they were a Tax Unit back then, rather than a backbone. That’s because they came from your Squads allowance - which had to be 25%+ of your total points spend.

But then…so were your Aspect Warriors, Rangers (also crap back then) and Wraithguard (flipping ‘orrible back then). So the incentive to take Guardians was low - unless you wanted Grav Weapons.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Just perusing my codex again….

Eldar Pirates and Pirate Lord. Can be mounted on Jetbikes. The Lord can take a Vyper with a Fighting Platform (remember those?).

And now….my idiot brain is wheel spinning thinking how cool such a unit could look converted up from modern models. Mix of CWE and DE Jetbikes…

Today is the day. Today I make it a 2nd Ed Legal Army.

By…*doo de de doodoo doodoooop* procure an Avatar of Khaine. If Chaos Cards still has that one on their shelf (support your local FLGS!).

I’ve even made a sacrifice.

Well. I managed to drop a spicy nugget from my tea last night, so that’ll have to do.

The big thing that Guardians seem to have going for them other than the ability to take Support Platforms, is that they are CHEAP. Even with the Catapults they are way cheaper than Dire Avengers. The other neat thing about them (although somewhat irksome) is that the Guardians can get Grenades, while Avengers cannot (nor can Eldar Pirates, either). They're only BS3 and 5+ Save, vs the Avenger BS4 and 4+ Save, but a Shuriken Catapult is a Shuriken Catapult. They seem worthwhile regardless.

The other thing that's standing out to me is the Scouts/Rangers. They seem sorta expensive to me. The Needle Rifle is cool (no to-wound roll against many targets) but not really that cool when compared to Catapults. I'm thinking the cost is there much for the Cameleoline, which when added to hard cover grants a -3 to hit.

Anyways, I gathered my Eldar together and I have WAAAY more than 2000 points worth. Time to stop buying on that front.

List for funsies: 2nd Ed Eldar 2000 points

1999 Normally they say no points, but this is 2nd edition so I'll chance it for the sake of historical curiosity?

So much tuning to do, I'm sure. But it gets a bunch of my favorite models on the table, and I can field it all with 2nd ed era kits. Everything is metal except the Jetbikes and Vyper, although the Exarchs will take some building though, I suppose.
