Thanks! It was an interesting challenge... I did luck out and get a green. I've seen some go past on Instagram where they got nothing green, and nothing to mix a green out of... so red or purple orks have been spotted!

I managed to get the first 5 test Word Bearers completed this afternoon. They are all the original MK III plastics, but I've included a few bits of chaos marines to hint at where they are going...

They start with a black undercoat, drybrushed silver/gunmetal. The red is Flesh Tearer contrast, with a think devlan mud wash over the top to darken it a bit more.

I've seen people talk about putting the colchis runes underneath the red wash so it looks more like it is part of the armour, but like heck am I sitting there putting runes on as transfers... so I went for the next best thing. Gundam micron pens! These things are thin, and ar enot water soluble... so the paint seems to go over the top nicely!

Nice idea. Have you ever used Pigma Micron pins?
They make even thinner lines. I've used them to make tattoos on my minis.
Possibly cheaper too.

I have used them before, yes. Not sure if it was just the ones I used to have would dry out really quickly and scrape paint off instead. If these work, I will give them another try

It's been a close run thing, but my entry for the Ancients challenge this month is finally done and submitted

I have also added 10 more Word Bearers to the initial 5.

December is going to be another month of Word Bearers, this time they are a bit more chaotic than the initial batch... showing their descent into mutation and the Chaos armour that we know and love from 40k.

There are 40k chaos bits mixed in there, with all of the arrows and spiky bits cut off so that it's just slightly more ornate armour for now, with a few horns growing through

I'm a big fan of mixing Chaos and Loyalist kits together. I really like these conversions.

The MKVI arms fit onto the chaos torsos nicely. The chaos arms onto the MKVI... not as much! While painting them I did find one arm has slipped out of position, so the hand doesn't really connect to the arm. Maybe this is just his mutation? Floating-hand-itis

It's been a while since I had the chance to do any painting... so hurrah for Christmas holidays!

15
more tactical Word Bearers and 5 terminators to the mix!

5 of these are going into the December painting challenge:

Little self challenge for the rest of the week is to see how much more I can get built and painted before I go back to work. At present the built list contains about 15 more tacticals in MKIII and VI armour, 5 heavy bolters, 5 plasma guns and 11 Gal Vorbak. I'm also slowly working my way through a Spartan... lets see where we get to!

The joy of Christmas holidays is being able to get moving with the army. I mentioned last time that the built list included a bunch of tacticals, some plasma and heavy bolters. These have progressed a bit, with the two layer silvery drubrush undercoat and some red.

and some Gal Vorbak. Two of these are Greater Posessed that I managed to pick up cheap on ebay, and a bunch of 3d printed ones from GMS, which is an awesome set with loads of variation. Is there a limit on the number of these that I should have? We'll see

After that I realised that I had none of the characters that are necessary to run a legal army, so this afternoon has been spent starting a few options

This one could be a chaplain or a diabolist; most likely a chaplain. At present I'm wondering if he needs a more corrupt head and a differet pack

A fairly plain Legion Centurion, just a head swap and the sword changing out for a demonic blade from the Kill Team Legionaries

And finally a terminator librarian/diabolist. I suspect more a diabolist, given the book and the cape, but he'll pass for either. I get that he's in the wrong type of terminator armour... but when he comes pre-enscribed with runes... it would be rude not to

Now to work out what to build with the remaining infantry kits. Brain wants to just build more small heavy/special weapon teams, but I feel like I should also have at least one Despoiler squad to help with the Cut Them Down rule (always Sweep, with rerolling 1s)

Meh. Towards the end of the heresy, the Indomitus Pattern was starting to become available. Maybe this guy raided a loyalist arsenal and scored an awesome new suit. Because I have to agree that pre-inscribed armor is hard to come by and too good to pass up. He looks great.

I'd missed that as the armour doesn't seem to appear in the Liber Hereticus book, so good call!

Love that paint scheme and how well it looks with the weathering you've done.
