A_F, some of the stuff you mention is why I'm not really up for another game. Silence is rewarded, particpation is punished. You have to admit that you would have gone after me whether I had actually been scum or not. I still don't think I did anything to "give it away" and I really would have played the game very similarly if I had been town. Our grudge match would have picked up again one way or another and oh what a battle it was! It was immensely difficult to lead a lynch against you without voting for you myself AND while advocating that you should not be lynched WHILE you were throwing everything you had at me. As you suspected--because it's what any smart player, scum or town, would do--I would have preferred to have killed you without voting for you but I was sure the lynch would not go through unless I jumped aboard. But I have to admit, you did me a tremendous favor by saving Orkeo from us on Night 1, as he along with Paul ended up as our unwitting allies throughout.

Sadly, my protection on the first night was reeled off as a quick email before I headed off on holiday. Didn't stop to think I probably couldn't target myself. I didn't see Thor's return email as I was away...

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Thanks, but I'll make no such admission. I was very cautious about that, and I spoke about it early in the game. I truthfully had no good reason to suspect you until... well, until I did. If anything I was deliberately ignoring the possibility until it seemed really obvious. I feel I've spent too much time writing about why I suspected you but in summary:
Confident, justifiable voting (scum are always 'safe' when voting).
Mystification (perfectly logical arguments about 'lack of proof' that always seemed dismissive).
You were too happy to bandwagon with me on Day 2.
The Day 2 point you made about the significance of your vote against Orkeo struck me early on but I ignored it for a long time.

All-in-all you certainly did nothing to give it away, but trust me, it wasn't just a vendetta on my part. Give me a bit of credit there. Your temporary vote against me was what really sealed it away. You just seemed to be currying town favour in my opinion and as much as I like curry, this one had a scummy taste. I'm only glad I killed any chance you had of settling into a strong leadership position on Day 3. If I didn't mention it before I died, you were my target on Night 2 but I was unwell that weekend and missed the deadline by a few hours... I had a hunch that you were the scum investigator after I died (thanks to Dave's revelation of your targets) but my intent to target you was out of caution at that point - you seemed the best target whether you were scum or town.

I sympathise with you regarding these games getting a bit tiresome... when it's a roomful of absentees watching 3-4 people have a shouting match in the vain hope that any of them are actually listening.

VikingScott, your continual apologies for voting confused the hell out of me!

I will admit I've been playing more on mafiascum.net because of this - the site meta here is a little tough at times. For a Dakka game I thought participation stayed pretty solid through this game, I could have probably been a little nastier with the prodding (work got crazy for me, so I got lazy about it) but those I did prod responded quickly and everyone was pretty good at posting semi-regular.

Not posting is a strategy--what is annoying about it is that it's apparently an effective one.

Not posting is indeed a strategy, but I will note that it's the vocal ones who get to pick the votes, as it were.

Probably town just needs to be more aggressive towards those who aren't voting/posting - it was amazing how many times this game people would claim a pressure vote on someone and demand "say something" and then the other player would come out with "not sure what to say" and would immediately be unvoted. Not much pressure being applied there, really.

Well, I was using that as a distraction and was pleased when it caught on . . .

I'd like to be in your game VikingScott, trust me, i'll actually post. ^^

The infrequent posts were all part of a plan, and it worked this time.

Manchu was dominating the town, and VikingScott was manipulating, I figured I would sit on my hands and stay in reserve.

I read it all the way through and enjoyed the game immensely, thanks everyone!

I'll be damned if i'm ever a townie!

(Also, you were considering lynching me over that silly joke?)

Dropping subtle hints towards lynching certain players, I either have too light or heavy a touch when I try.
