"You know how to fight six men. We can teach you to engage 600." - Ra's Al Ghul
Well... that was different. Slept it over, and something came to me in the night... I'm still a bit mixed, but I'm set on the path now. For some odd reason, the quote above came to me in my sleep, that and an idea of a wraith. (the fear test before Wayne becomes one of those League of Shadows ninjas) I woke up at about 5, and started to paint... the results were... mixed.
I can't tell if it's any good right now, but here goes nothing.
For the skin, I decided on a bluish grey, starting with a base of... GW Codex Grey? Went lower with Regal blue and higher with that same mix and a bit of GW Fortress Grey and Vallejo white. For the eyes, it'll be base of purple, darkened with purple and black, and highlighted to be a maroon-purple... and I'm actually going to try to make small marks to note the compound nature of both areas.
And the horrible start to half-a-sleep/burnout layering...
As I'm not master sculptor, this model has a lot of flat surfaces... and I didn't kitbash enough to cover it with details. I'm trying to make due by doing a lot of freehand. This is the start to the battle damage. I'm also going to continue doing layered striations in the bone (not the chest armor and leg armor) to increase it's depth.
I realize some of the highlights are looking a bit wak, but I'll either be repairing them with a few washes, or I'll be doing more freehand "bone" texturing on them. Hopefully, it looks better, and not more ed up.
Comments(advice?) and critiques are most certainly welcome.

LOL... " crapace", huh? Freudian slip, my friend? Jus kiddin'.
Yea, I'm thinking I'm going to redo it with a dark blue/black base, now that you mention it. I'm not satisfied with it at the moment, and before the damage, I want to add the texturing- probably tonight.

HF Izanagi - The blue and purple works for me too.
I think you should do the "crapace" dark grey blue. Now I assume that comment might be a bit late. So how did the texturing go.

LOL... not you too...
Actually, nothing has been done yet, as I wasn't in the mood to paint yesterday night. The shell will be done again, most definitely, but I'm also strongly considering redoing the flesh as well...
I'm definitely not pleased with the... shell... so I'm redoing that. But on that note, I thought about boing back to my first thoughts before Batman ever interfered (to color it similar to a predator)- yellow/bone/cream skin and a brownish red color for the shell. (or olive green alternate color).
It'll almost go against fluff, as a bone/brown/green (earthtone) figure is pretty noticeable against stark grey concrete... but I'm probably going with that. This mini didn't give me problems during construction, but now seeks to undo me when I'm nearly finished. I'll not be beaten by the likes of you, bugman!!
Ah well... only 6.5 hours left til I get to retry this... again.

After endless thoughts and discussions about the color scheme, I've started painting, but I still have to pick up the pace. I'm not really motivated at the moment, but I know I just need to get something done to propel my motivation.
Regarding the colors I finally decided to go with a inquisitorial classic: Black(ish metallic) armor, red synskin, gold and silver details, brown leather straps (and maybe boots) and maybe some white details for eyecatchers.

That's true. I guess it's just the admission that I had a good idea that I restricted too much... but I can work that into the fluff as well if I decide to go down that road. LOL... it really is like painting a tyranid.

Of course PIPs are allowed, approved of even! It would be great to have a lot of them, maybe we can all learn a thing or two from each other.
I'm personally not really going for the element of surprise. a lack of pips from my side results from my lack of progress.
Also I'm generally not a friend of taking progress pictures of my paintjobs, because they always look gakky until I'm almost done. Must be my painting style, I normally work on all surfaces at the same time, because I normally mess it up when I finish one part first.
But I'll make an exception for the contest and give you some backstage insights of the crap I'm currently producing. Soon enough anyways...

Good news everyone!!! I finally have the internet so shall be commenting regularly from now on. Im going to have to go for a mad sprint at the end because im desperately finishing my Warlord for a massive 52k 4-way apoc game this Saturday. However, i have sourced a nice clear tube for the amniotic tank and have my head overflowing with ideas, so construction should be nice and swift.... (Pfft, who am i kidding!!!! @neil: I like the headress tbh. The crimson looks very promising as well. Yeah its a sewage "canal", which also goes under the grate. The feet will get lots more pistons never fear! @PDH: Haha, lol! I think the whole 40k universe is a big h&s nightmare, poor administratum bureaucrats. Yeah there'll be an armoured shin. @Scarper: Cheers bud, there's nothing i like more than a fresh kitbash. @Remi: Love the start of the paint. Skin colour is ace and the battle damaged armour is coming along nicely. Do think there needs to be a 'warm' accent colour in there to make it 'pop' though. I would like to see what a metallic iridescent red would look like though, something like this perhaps.. (Apologies for ther odd content of that pic, was the best example of the colour i could find )

Here be first wii of "pimp wizard two - as per my retinue ideas":
NOTE: I've purposefully used the daemonette head for the large, lidless eyes and glued tiny bionic eye parts on them, to rep some of her war gear and to build on a scheme of =I= given enhancements. She will get sculpted, torn shirt that will be suitably explicit, and I'll look into folding the front of her tabard, to mimic the wind blowing from the base. Lots of small things going on.

@ Vit- Yea... I've recently started a repaint of the skin (and shell)... I wasn't all that pleased with it in it's current incarnation. I'm currently going with an actual "Predator" look for him, peach-yellow mottled skin, armor will probably be olive, and the chest plate a greyish black.
@Migs- Nice. Are you using all of the sorcerers for your warband?
@Baiyuan- Roger that.
Started the skin again, but not enough to warrant pictures. I'm sticking with this one though, as I've layered and airbrushed enough for about 4 to 5 standard paint layers already, and I can already start to see deterioration in the detail. More work tonight and possibly pics tonight/tomorrow.

PROGRESS
I'll do the rest of the hair tomorrow which pretty much makes her ready for painting.
Maybe a parchment or a few seals on the back of the dress should be in order...
Quite happy how she turned out, although she has gotten more sinister and mechanical that I had first planned for.
The change came mainly because of the mix-up of the right arm and the hair, and the fact that the sorcerer is so small that it is hard to find a genuine properly sized chainsword to match her. Instead I had to cut the arm by the shoulder and add both custom arm and chainsaw...

JRN - WOW
The bionic chainsaw arm is a master piece. I have no idea how you would do that with GS.
She would be right at home hunting down your outlaws.
Migs - You Tease.....You've just entered Baiyuan territory.
Vitruvian XVII - H&S nightmare. Couldn't agree more. I've played 40k over a Cities of Death table....I'm lucky, I still have both my eyes!
HF Izanagi - Have toy (I have no idea why I wrote that???? probably should have deleted it? should probably go back to bed). What I meant to say is what colours are you painting him/repainting him? I quite like the blue skin. Since batman is the reference point are you going to give him a yellow belt buckle?
DrK36 - Thanks. You should check out the Pimp My Sorcerer 40k thread too http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/378516.page
As for my own model.....painting has been slowed due to being ill. I'm still on track though and should have finished shots on the 10th. No pip shots from me since I'm going for the element of surprise.

Greetings,
Things are slowly moving toward the end of the project.
Did we end up having a final PNG-image to add to our pictures?
(Love the one create. Just wondering if there is a specific image that we are using or of we are using the stamp created as a starting point for photoshopping work?)
And are there any rules of engagement when it comes to photography?
EDIT: just re-read for first page. No really tricky rules it seems. Great. Now onto the past modelling session and then photography.

Super work JRN! She looks very clean , and will be fun to paint no doubt.
as for the PNG Migs suggested i increase the size of the font for the final logo. Just havent had the time yet. Feel free to use the logo as is for now though if you wish. Migs had a great idea for the template
qoute "IN GENERAL
If we use Neil's stamp, and go for 800 x 800 pixels, with white background, everyone submits four images (front, back, any angle of choose or close up collage 1 and any angle of choose or close up collage 2) This way we can go with a square layout, or later if there is a website, proper gallery, each one gets one big square of four thumbnails, and the entire effort showcases the different modeling approaches purely. "
I would add you could present one image of your model in any way you choose , black background pink graphics , whatever you think appropriate alongside the white ones for the multiple combined shots. that way we "can have our cake and eat it" as it were.. what does veryone eles think?

Hey Baiyuan. Work is one of those wonderful things that pays for our hobby and yet gets in the way of the hobby.
I hope you get her finished in time.
Progress on mine is coming along nicely at the moment. I think I'll have him finished by the end of the week (I do have the week off and have to spend a couple of days in the house waiting for a new sofa and trying out the new sofa ).
On a side note can someone suggest s FREE equivalent to photoshop. For my current pics I use IrfanView but I don't think that it does layers so I cannot use the cool PNG stamp Neil did.

Gimp is a pretty powerfull tool , infact i would say it trumps photoshop in many departments. Only used it sporadically though , so not really sure of my way around its many tools.
Like your template layout Peter , the inquisistion wrting looks a bit small but its not so bad as the pmw should take the glory ;-)
